Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
His bronze fur was sleek and neatly groomed around his strapping muscles, the sunlight offering deep contrasting shadows that fell across his chest and accentuated the nearly ruffled fur around his neck. There wasn't a speck of dirt on his coat, it shone in a rich display that made him look every inch the prince he was. Ragingspire was so nervous, he was actually well-groomed.
Ragingspire didn't take the time to nearly groom his coat - not often, almost not ever. He liked the roguish look he had when he was a little dusty and his fur was a mess; more than that, he had spent more than enough time as the center of attention when he was a 'paw, and that was enough for him. Growing up a leader's son had been difficult, and he was eager to put that life behind him and just be a normal warrior. And perfectly groomed, he felt he looked too good. Maybe that was his ego again, but he decided to reach up with his paws and scuff his fur, purposely kicking up some more dust to walk into.
That was better.
"Hey, Dawnmemories," he called as he strolled around the corner from the warriors' den. He was surprised to find her just inches away and flinched back a step, his perfectly practiced words and tone falling apart as he stuttered. "Uh-- we're going on patrol today, right?"

Dawnmemories was once again happy, adjusted to her role in the clan. Deputy was finally a title she felt proud to bear and she no longer flinched under the gaze of certain cats. Through her rather turbulent inner-monologues and long conversations with friends the she-cat had arrived at a few key revelations.
1. She had earned her place. 2. Sootstep, nor any other cat, would be allowed to make her feel undeserving. 3. Despite her strong emotions towards Sootstep, she had come to cherish a few other cats with much less confusion and heartache.
She wasn't sure about romantic feelings, only of a great need to be near Ragingspire and all his kindness and optimism. That feeling is what drove her to be up and thoroughly groomed by the time Ragingspire rounded the corner and very nearly ran into her. "Oh, hi," she responded, twitching her tail in a happy greeting. "Yes, we are. It's just us, I hope that's alright?"
"Absolutely." Ragingspire grinned. "Shame about Condorstrike; I hope his paw is okay." The senior warrior had originally planned on patrolling with them, but Ragingspire had politely convinced him not to tag along. Condorstrike hadn't been happy to fake an injury, however minor, but he liked the idea of actually being hurt even less, so in the end, he reluctantly decided to step aside and let them patrol alone.
"Well then, I'm ready to leave when you are! Do you need something to eat first? I don't want you collapsing from exhaustion and making me carry all the prey home," he teased lightly.

"I'll check on him when we get back," she promised, "but I'm sure he'll be fine." Condorstrike was strong and capable, it was honestly a bit strange he'd relented even with an injury.
"Oh no, I'm sure I'll manage," Dawnmemories responded with a playful eyeroll. "In fact," she tensed, "I think I'll race you out of camp." The red warrior took off, bounding out of camp, past a surprised Roachpelt, and into their territory. Her small amount of stress almost immediately melted away as she ran, so happy was she to be out and about.
"Another race?" Laughing, Ragingspire sprinted after her, his strides long and graceful. He didn't even complain about her head start - it was more than fair, considering he had pulled the same trick on her last time they raced. "You don't think you can beat me this time, do you? I've been going easy on you!"

Dawnmemories laughed, her voice carrying on the wind as her paws thumped against the cold ground. "Sure you were," she replied, tail waving erratically as she wove through a bundle of winter-sleepy ferns.
"You think I'm joking? I was just protecting your ego, it was taking enough of a beating already without me helping." His voice was light and amused as he dashed around a hawthorn bush. He meant it as a joke, he certainly hadn't been going easy on her, but he had been worried about her confidence when she was first made deputy.

Dawnmemories laughed again, leaping lightly over an old tree stump with her sides heaving. She knew he was joking but she also knew how considerate he was and how likely it was that he really had been holding for her. The thought was both sweet and infuriating. Dawnmemories didn't want to be protected anymore.
"Now's your chance to prove it then, catch up," she challenged, stupidly, as she was already winded.
Ragingspire’s smile drew back into a wicked grin. “Oh, you’re on. You’re going to regret this,” he told her. He dug his paws in deeper, gathering his breath for a final push. He was getting tired too, but his stride lengthened as he sprinted forward, closing the distance between them.
Then the bronze tom lunged, his paws striking her shoulders as he bowled her over. He tucked her against him, taking the brunt of the fall, and didn’t let go until they were rolling to a stop. Then his head flopped back against the ground and he grinned up at her, looking incredibly pleased with himself.

Dawnmemories was about to slow down, unable to keep the pace any longer, when Ragingspire leaped on her. With a small yelp she was falling, though Ragingspire made it so she hardly felt the impact. Panting, she sat up and fixed an amused look on him that was meant to look stern, "what was that for? You just attacked your deputy, you know."
It should be noted, at least by her, that she made no move to distance herself from him and therefore their fur was pressed together, making her feel warm.
"Because," he replied innocently, "I think you're so starstruck by me you forgot where we're heading. You were right about to run past our exit."
He hopped back onto his paws, shaking out his fur. His breathing was rough as his sprint caught up to him, but it gave him an excuse for the pounding of his heart. The closer they approached their final destination, the more numb and tingly he felt. And they were close - he had neglected to tell her they were coming this way, but she could probably guess. This far into the deep lands, they were near the river, and the Southern Sea's salty tang was overwhelming his senses almost as much as the she-cat at his side.
Trotting a few steps onward, he looked back at her, bemused. "You coming? I don't have to prove I'm faster than you, but if I don't prove I'm capable of hunting, Ratstar might decide I should become an elder instead. I am getting so old, my bones are so stiff in this weather," he lamented with a huge sigh.

Dawnmemories rolled her eyes and shook her own fur out, looking around them as she got her bearings. She knew every rock and fern, but her breath was labored and her mind clouded. "You're not old, at least not to me," not that it would matter to her, Ragingspire would be her friend not matter his rank or age. She matched her pace to him, relieved that she'd managed to catch her breath and could now walk with something close to dignity instead of panting and trying not to die.
"Do you have anywhere special in mind to hunt at?" She asked curiously, when they'd past the tang of mouse close-by, close enough that the scent wasn't choked by the salty air.
"I appreciate your faith, but forgive me if I doubt your perspective. Of course you think I'm young - I'm not that much older than you are. You're still a green young warrior, right?" he teased. They might not be senior warriors yet, but it had been quite a few moons since she was an apprentice and even more for him. He supposed she was still young considering how long she was going to live - she was destined to be a leader, and nine lives left a cat with their paws on the earth for a very long time.
He shook the thought away, straightening up at her question. "Of course. We're crossing the river and heading down to the sea. I heard there's a crop of seagulls lurking by the half-bridges."

"Green warrior?" She laughed, nudging his shoulder and shaking her head. "I feel like I have three paws in the elder's den by now. I'm tired pretty much all the time, what could that be but old age calling for me?" Her voice was light, untroubled. They were both still young, vital to the clan, and though she hadn't let herself think about it much, old age wouldn't bother her when it did come. As long as she lived a full life and didn't die a sad, terrible death, Dawnmemories was satisfied.
"Seagulls?" It had been ages since she's taken one of them down, though she found it terribly enjoyable. Seagulls were strong birds with quite a will to escape and live. They were good to eat but a pain to catch. SummerClan would certainly welcome one or two of the birds with the chill of leaf-bare encroaching.
Ragingspire chuckled. "I think that just means you need some sleep, Dawnmemories. Why do you think I never wanted to be the deputy? I don't want all the pressure on me all the time, I'd rather take a nap when the clan gets too dramatic. Hm. Saying that out loud, maybe I really am old."
He cast a sideways glance at her, not quite as sneaky as he intended. He studied her expression for any hint of what she was feeling and decided she didn't seem worried about taking down one of the birds. If they were lucky, they could catch one before they got down to their true business today. "Yeah, seagulls, unless you're too old and scared."

"Oh and I suppose I begged for the position, hm?" She replied, chuckling and shaking her head. In truth, she loved her role, but Ragingspire was right. It came with a lot of pressure she'd rather do without.
Dawnmemories shot him a challenging look, all cockiness and fire, "old, yes. Scared? Never. Don't worry though, your deputy is here to protect you, young warrior."
"Absolutely! You were always taking extra patrols, staying out late to hunt, following orders..." He shook his head despairingly. "Everyone else knows better than to act like the model warrior, it makes the rest of us look bad. I'm just saying if you slept in late a few more days you would be fine."
He met her challenge, the fur on the back of his neck rising as he showed his teeth. "You sure about that, dep? I hear those seagulls are pretty scary, even I would be quivering in my coat right now if I wasn't so epic and awesome."

"Ah yes," Dawnmemories allowed, dipping her head graciously, "I forgot I was in a clan of lazy furballs, me doing patrols on time was practically a hostile take over."
"Epic and awesome?" Dawnmemories met his eyes and prepared her own biting retort, happy to be bantering with a clanmate. But when she looked at him a weird piercing hit her heart. Like it was telling her to really look. It made her pause, unsure, before answering in a softer voice, "yeah you really are."
Ragingspire and her were friends, Sootstep and her were a question mark so big it reached StarClan, but in the very moment it was like... like she was confusing the two. Like those lines and boxes she'd applied to them had blurred enough to allow something to stir for Ragingspire, as ridiculous as that must seem.
Ragingspire laughed again. His clanmates had a sense of humor, never as good as his own of course, but Dawnmemories made some particularly good jokes. He continued leading the way; they were across the river and drawing near the sea when he felt her eyes on him. He glanced quickly over at her, her unsure voice catching him off guard, and he wondered not for the first time what was going on in her mind. What he wouldn't give for a little peek into her thoughts - he might actually volunteer for a dawn patrol.
He didn't say anything, looking ahead as they finally pushed through the bushes to reach the sea. The sandy banks were empty - but none too easily discouraged, all too eager to avoid the coming confrontation, he headed up along the beach until they found a seagull pulling at shells at a barnacle on the bottom of one of the half-bridges.
"And there's our meal," he breathed. "Take the lead, noble deputy?"

He didn't respond to her and perhaps that was for the best. A moment or too later the pang faded and she came back to herself, shaking off the odd feeling and focusing on their task at hand. Hunting for the clan, not wallowing about Sootstep and feeling confused by Ragingspire.
She nodded at his words, "alright, attack it on my signal." She then slinked away from him, positioning herself precisely behind the bird where it wouldn't see her. On her signal Ragingspire could startle the beast and she'd run leap, taking it down while it was distracted. Their prey weren't keen on eating cats but their beaks still gleaming maliciously and they had been known to slice deep into a cat or two.
Creeping forward, steps blessedly muted by the damp sand, she paused a mere few tail-lengths from the bird. Dawnmemories waited a moment, until it was plucking another shell, before signaling to Ragingspire with a lash of her tail.
