Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
The bronze tom lowered himself to the ground as he waited for her cue, creeping just close enough to keep her in view as well as the bird. It was pretty big, and he eyed the large wings apprehensively. They would need to work together to take it down, and even then it would be a fight.
He held his breath until he saw her signal from behind the bird. Ragingspire darted out from his hiding place, shattering the stillness of the moment as he rushed his prey. With a cry of alarm, the bird flew open its wings and started to rise into the air.

"Oh no you don't," Dawnmemories yowled, taking the distance between her and bird down in a heartbeat and launching herself at the bird with claws outstretched. The beast cried out as Dawnmemories sank her claws into it, but it continued to ascend into the air. Ragingspire would be here in another moment to help, she reminded herself as she clung to the bird and bit frantically at whatever part of the animal she could. The seagull thrashed it's head, trying to catch her with it's beak, and she almost had to drop down in order to get away from it.
Ragingspire growled, tempted to leap at it right away, but one slash from its beak could spell disasters. He crouched down as Dawnmemories clung to its back, waiting until it jerked its head away to snap at her. Then he lunged upward, his paws sinking in through layers of feathers until his claws struck poultry. Their combined weight dragged the bird back to the ground, and he leaped forward, pinning the beak to the sand and exposing the throat to Dawnmemories for a killing bite.

i HATE hunting scenes, i suck at them. my cats are all vegan now.
Dawnmemories clung on until Ragingspire helped pin the bird, she didn't hesitate when he exposed it's throat and killed the beast quickly. As soon as it fell limp the she-cat let go, panting again and shaking feathers and bits of skin from her claws. "Messy kill," she noted after a moment, "I forgot how strong these things were. Thanks."
"We make a good team." The words slipped off Ragingspire's tongue easily, loaded with much more meaning than he had intended. He angled his face away from her and busied himself with flipping the wings about until he could get a grip on the prey to carry it, hoping she didn't pay any extra attention to his tone.
He dragged the bird toward the end of the half-bridge, then set it down on the end, making a face as the feathers ticked his tongue. "Come on, let's eat. It'll be lighter to carry back to camp if some of it is gone," he suggested.

i've been struggling to write for years because hunting scenes continue to elude me lol
"Yeah," she responded, looking at him with a curious expression. Dawnmemories didn't quite catch the double meaning, but she certainly noted his over-concentration when arranging the bird. She let it go, helping him move the bird and padding beside it as he dragged it along.
The clan had eaten and this was an unofficial patrol, they weren't breaking any rules, she snorted and nodded, "alright, but don't eat the entire thing."
i understand how they could get exhausting after the 500th one xD that's when you start hunting weird things to keep it fun
"Fine, fine," Ragingspire laughed, certain that wasn't going to be a problem. Now that the time had come, his stomach was tying itself up in hot knots. He hadn't been this nervous since he'd returned to SummerClan all those moons ago. As he mulled over how to begin, he decided to start with the most pertinent question:
"So, what's going on with you and Sootstep? Are you two involved?"

1000% how i feel lmao, let me hunt a llama
The question took Dawnmemories by surprised and she was hit, all over again, with her torrent of emotions she usually kept carefully at the back of her mind. Sootstep. Even his name was confusing to her. Like it wasn't the name he should have. Like he wasn't even quite the cat she pictured in her head. Sootstep, truly her oldest relationship, be it friendship or hatred. The tom had a tremendous amount of power over her without knowing or wanting it. And Ragingspire understood that her heart was knotted up when it came to the tom and he never really mentioned him. So why now? And why so casually?
Voice a bit stiff she answered, "you mean, are we mates? No. Things are... as they always are with Sootstep. Why?"
He was quiet a moment, chewing his food slowly so she could sift through her feelings. He understood their rivalry was complicated, though he didn’t understand why.
“Because if you’re not mates with him, and I haven’t seen you hanging around anyone else, you must be single,” he answered calmly. “Am I right?”

ragingspire and dawnmemories: llama hunters
Dawnmemories was fully and totally confused now, staring at the tom with undisguised disbelief and hostility now, "I suppose so, I hadn't given it much thought to be honest.
He was being strange and she felt herself putting her guard up, not trusting the all-to-casual way he was speaking. Was he going to berate her complicated... something-ship with Sootstep?
i waited ALL NIGHT for those three lines from you worth it
Ragingspire studied her carefully, waiting for her to make the connection. When she didn’t, he sighed. He would have to be blunt.
“I’m glad you’re not with him, because frankly, he’s a fleabag. He’s rude, arrogant, and I don’t think he actually sleeps, so there’s probably something deeply wrong with him on the inside. I know he’s your friend, but he isn’t.... safe.” He paused before he settled on that last word. It felt right.
“But that’s not what I came here to say. Just that he doesn’t deserve you, okay? You’re better than him in so many ways.”

omg the sleeping thing xDD i'm dead
Each word he spoke made her more defensive of the tom she kinda hated but kinda didn't. It had always been like that too. The clan says something accurate against Sootstep, Dawnmemories gets mad. However, this cat was her friend and deserved better than her usual biting remark. She very carefully calmed herself before responded, "what did you come here to say then? If it isn't about Sootstep?"
“You’ve been a good friend to me, Dawnmemories. I like having you around. I think you’re brilliant.” He placed his paw lightly on top of hers, his gaze fully focused on hers. Heartbeat quick in his ears. “I think you’re funny, sweet, and you care a lot about the clan. I like you, and I want to know more about you.”
Ragingspire shrugged, as if his coming words didn’t take a great deal of faith. “I’d like to go on a date with you. As a couple. Is date too juvenile?” He grinned nervously. “I’ve never been interested in a she-cat before, I’m not sure what the right word is.”

His paw being placed on top of hers was a shock. And, honestly, his words were surprising as well. For several seconds she stared blankly at him, her mind whirling. "I-I'm sorry?" She cocked her head, as though trying to figure out exactly what the heck was going on. "You are interested... in me?"
No one had ever said that to her before. She'd never cared to let anyone. For her, she'd been consumed by duty or by her infuriating and depressing relationship with Sootstep. "Ragingspire... I..." what could she say? That she may be in live with another tom?
"I'm not asking for a big commitment," he assured her, his eyes dropping as he sensed her hesitance. "Just think about it. We can go on a couple of dates and see if anything clicks. If you don't feel that way about me, then we'll drop it, no harm done. I just wanted to try. I care about you, Dawnmemories."

She took one deep breath and then like two or three more, tops. Once calmed she removed her paw from under his and placed hers on top, tapping once to get him to look at her again. Her voice was kind as she spoke, "Ragingspire I... I just want you to know that I do feel... something for Sootstep, just as I do for you. I don't want to lie to you or anything."
As she said it she realized how much she had grown to care for Ragingspire, enough so that she freely admitted to him that her heart was in two here.
Ragingspire smiled then - a little sad, but mostly his expression was full of a gentle understanding. "I know. That's why I wanted to ask about him first," he murmured. "I don't think he's any good for you, and I don't think you should act on any feelings you have for him. But that isn't up to me, and if you decide in the end he's the one you want, I'll be okay."

Dawnmemories squinted at Ragingspire, as though concentrating enough to read his mind. "Really? You'd open yourself up to potential disappointment, for me? Any she-cat at all would be lucky to love you, so why do this to yourself?" Not that she wanted him to go anywhere else. Her feelings for him were tangled, which she was beginning to suspect was her default emotional state, but she found herself very much upset by the idea that he may walk away from her right now.
Surprisingly, that was the question that caught Ragingspire off guard, and he looked genuinely puzzled. "You're the one I care about. They're all my clanmates, and I'll die a slow and tedious death for them as required by clan law, but you're the one I would want to die for. But I'd rather live with you than die for you. And yeah, maybe you'll break my heart in the end, but... everyone else seems fine running that risk. If you break up with me, I'll just fill your nest with thorns every day for the rest of time." A charming smile.

"That sounds awful," Dawnmemories replied, bluntly. "Not the you-and-me thing. But the me breaking your heart thing. Ragingspire, how can I agree to this knowing it jeopardizes our friendship? I need you." Her life very much wouldn't be the same without this charming, smart, handsome tom beside her. But that went beyond being mates, it was a deep friendship that she treasured and it felt wrong to bargain it on her own seemingly nonsensical heart.
