Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
"I'm passing through, so you'll never see me again and I'll never see you. Why not ask you all these questions?" It never hurt to know more about anyone. Everyone was only a few degrees of separation apart at a time. "I've had some companions in the past, but no one in a long time. Before you ask, I didn't kill them or anything. They just didn't survive."
But if you really believe what you're saying, then why even ask the questions at all? he thought to himself. "Hmm...they're that weak huh?" Link caught himself but it was too late for him to stop his more baleful side. "Uh, I mean of course I wouldn't assume you would have killed them off, but I wouldnt expect you to have company like that. But how did they die?"
She smirked. He almost sounded like a League cat for a second. Maybe this cat was an ambassador undercover or something like that. "Yes, they were weak They couldn't handle the desert. I mercy killed one because he was going delirious from the heat. The other died after a scorpion sting. I didn't like either of the two, but we were tasked with finding the one I told you about."
"That is...unfortunate," he meowed plainly. He didn't know either of them so it was hard to feel sympathy for them. They just didn't have what it took to survive. "So that would explain why you're all alone on this adventure...don't you think its a bit more challenging that way?" He thought about it for a moment. He didn't have anything better to do at the moment. Maybe he could offer his assistance. Besides it had been some time since he had last seen some action.
"In some aspects, sure. If I can't hunt, then I have no food. If I can't fight, then that's it. But, I can't complain about it either. I move faster alone. I'm sure you noticed that once your partner left." She couldn't care for a traveling companion. They had their benefits, but they slowed her down. In a chase speed was the only thing that mattered. Losing them was for the best. "Your life got harder, but you became more free."
He couldn't agree with her, but couldn't disagree with her either. Once Asher - Tempestbreeze now - had went on his own, more options opened up for Link, but he wasn't necessarily a burden either. Even though he had been a former kittypet, the tom learned quickly and could keep up with him after all of Link's teachings. "Yes, that's true, but the company I kept could stand on their own if they needed to. But even before they came along, life wasn't all that difficult for me so it just returned to what I was already used to."
"My company could stand on their own by city standards, but the desert is far less forgiving." She almost died multiple times herself. Every time she scraped by on a hair. Maybe she found some little pool of water at the bottom of the dune, or the lone scorpion crawling across the sand. At least the first moon or two came down to luck, and she had it on her side. "I doubt any of you city folk could survive out there."
Link laughed. "Don't lump me in with them. Like I said before, not all cats are the same, Huntress." Was she taunting him or was that something she really believed? "Just because I live here now doesn't mean I've grown soft," he affirmed. From the sound of it, it was almost as if she was insulting him. It was a bold assumption she just made.
She rolled her eyes. "All I'm saying is that city cats have it easy. If I wanted to, I could live off scraps here. It wouldn't be fun, but I would never have to hunt or look for water." Why did he take it so personally? She didn't understand. It was objectively harder to survive in a desert than in a city.
"Hmm...alright then." He may have been wrong for his response but it was too late. What was said, was said and he didn't know her well enough to justify apologizing to her. He didn't know what else to say so he fell silent.
She tilted her head to the side. He sounded unsure of what she said. "Well, do you disagree with me? Please, argue with me. I like winning." The Huntress wrapped her tail around her paws. "I'm interested in what you have to say."
Link smirked briefly before shaking his head at the invitation. "Nope, that is okay," he meowed. It was tempting to argue with her but it wouldn't get him anywhere. "City cats do have it easy," he agreed. Although he was once a kittypet, he did his best to not remember the life he left behind.
By now, the sun had began to set and start its slow decent below the horizon. The sound of the rain outside was starting to take a toll on Link and he could feel himself getting drowsy. His eyelids became heavier and his blinks became longer but he refused to succumb to sleep while his guest was still awake. It was rude. In an attempt to keep himself cognizant, he threw out a question. "Do you enjoy what you do?"
"Enjoy? I guess. I've never been the type to seek out enjoyment. It seems so... vain. I'd rather work towards success and let enjoyment happen from there." The Huntress rested her head over her paws as the golden light filtered in from above. "What about you?"
"Interesting...," he said as he shrugged. "I haven't been doing much lately, so I can't say I enjoy anything at the moment." Truth be told, he missed having Asher around but it was only a matter of time before the tom went off and did his own thing. "How long are you here before you resume your hunt?"
"Not long. I'm just passing through." She herself was starting to feel the pull of sleep close her eyes. It had been a long day, and she had another one ahead of her. "Speaking of that, I'll have to go tomorrow morning. I gotta sleep."
The smell of wet pavement woke the she-cat up. It didn't particularly bother her, but it was far from the smells of the forest after a rain. The sweet smells of the forest came alive then. She glanced around the small den before rising to her paws. Link looked like he was still asleep, and she wanted it to stay that way. The Huntress always tried to slip away before anyone noticed.
"You're going to leave without saying goodbye" Link joked as he blinked his eyes open and raised his head. From all his time in the forest, he couldn't fall into a deep sleep and even slight movement caused him to wake. "I'm kidding, of course. But, seriously, if you're heading out now, I hope you have travel safe."
