Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
She huffed and took another look around. His den was basic, not that she had anything against it. It wasn't her taste, but whatever. It wasn't like she was gonna be here for too long. As soon as the rain let up, she would move on. From the sound of the downpour outside, that would be a bit of a wait, but nothing to serious. The Huntress turned her attention back to him. "For the same reason you're asking me these questions. You piqued my interest, so I'm exploring my curiosity." She walked over and sat down next to his nest. "Don't worry, I'll be on my way tomorrow."
He shifted slightly so that she was more in his line of sight. "What about me piqued your interest, eh?" No one really spent the time to actually take an interest in him. But he hadn't said much to her to warrant that interest so it made him curious about her reasoning.
"Well, a few things. One, that you just led me to your den without any fight. Two, as I said before, you just approached a stranger on the street. That's unusual. And your still talking to me, even though we've wasted breath for the past hour." She said and turned around from the window. "That about sums it up. " She took a few steps towards his nest until she was just a foot from him. "Now I get to ask a question. Why are you putting up with me?"
He shrugged. "Good question," he replied as he looked her over and considered his words. I dont know what cats you met that made you like this but we're not the same is what he wanted to say but refrained. "I'm not a jerk so I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt. I wouldnt want to assume that all cats are inherently bad," he said plainly.
She chuckled and sat down. "Hmpf. The benefit of the doubt, eh? Ha!" She waved her tail just above the ground. "Don't hear much of that anymore. See what I mean? You're just... an anomaly. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, but that's why I'm so curious about you." She sighed again. "How's this? I call myself the Huntress."
He scowled briefly, feeling patronized by her choice of words, but shrugged it off. He titled his head from side to side, taking in the name. Huntress, huh? "That's a strange name...why would you pick something like that?" he asked. Of course, many reasons came to mind but he didn't want to assume.
She shook her head. "I did not choose it, nor did my parents. I come from far away, and there the name everyone knows is given to you by the tribe leaders. My birth name is different, but a secret between me and my gods." The more she thought about it, he seemed isolated enough that he would not gossip much. "The Huntress is simply a translation."
(Sorry for taking so long. I finished up finals over the weekend and have been really tired.)
A translation? "What do you mean it's a translation? A translation for what?" She was a strange cat, to say the least. And did she say that she was from a tribe? He's heard of clans but what was the difference between the two of those? He was intrigued by what he would learn from her now.
"Exactly what it sounds like. This is my name in your tongue." She thought it was relatively self explanatory, but apparently not. "I wouldn't want you to wonder what my name meant, and, well, names are a big deal." She smirked. "If you messed up my real name, I'd have to kill you."
Link grinned. Yeah right. Like that would really happen. "Hmm...so how do you pronounce your own name then?" he asked her. The rain outside continued to downpour even more now, the drops pelting the roof of the building they were in. Luckily he had taken shelter in one of the more preserved buildings so everything stayed dry. He was curious though. What would she do after the storm passes?
She shrugged. "Another interesting question. The Huntress comes from Hatliwaran." Her r rolled as if she were purring. "The full name is Cla'bnaret Igziq Hatliwaran, kind of a mouthful, so I just shortened it, and made it easier so no one would mess it up." The crescendo of the pounding ran did not escape her ears, and but the scope of it did escape her. The building's isolation shielded her from seeing how bad it was outside.
He tried saying it mentally but however hard he tried, it didn't sound close to how she said it. "Yeah that tough to say," he admitted. "Huntress is a lot better to say. But anyway..." he said as he glanced around him. "What do you in your free time, Huntress? Why are you out here instead of back home?"
She flicked her ears and nodded. "My free time? My whole life is free time. I travel around, and, as my name suggests, I hunt." She looked over her shoulder to check on the storm. "Before you ask, I do hunt some cats, but you have nothing to worry about. My home doesn't appreciate deserters, and know a few settled around here."
"So you're something like a mercenary? Is that what brought you here then?" he asked her. He had to admit, if that was the case, that would be pretty cool. That reminded him, though. He had seen a few cats here and there but he thought they were just abandoned kittypets once all the twolegs moved away. He wasn't going to point them out though if that was the reason she was here; they didn't do anything to him so why through them under the bus.
She shook her head. "I would not call myself a mercenary. I do not kill to gain favors. I kill because some cats abandoned their duty, so they need to be punished." Mercenary implied she was for hire, and that simple was not the case... yet. Who knows, in a few months she could be in need of a few favors, but that was purely speculation. "Justice brought me here."
He tilted his head from side to side in understanding. "Ah, okay. That makes sense." Heh, that's unfortunate for them, but I wonder what made them want to leave? "But what exactly is their duty?" he asked.
"Their duty was to serve our gods, protect the group, and provide for the kittens. They were no one special, but abandoning the group is punishable by death." Few groups she knew of held onto that promise, save for maybe SunClan. Even then she was certain the right cat could get away with it. "Though I hear they had a litter on the way... it makes things complicated."
Link was surprised she was giving up so much information about what he thought would have been personal affairs. Was it his charm (doubt it) or perhaps had she just given up on being so secretive? "Ah, I see," he responded before going silent, thinking of what to say next.
"That being said, have you seen a Bengal like me in city? She may have been traveling with a kitten, maybe six, seven moons old." She shared with him, so the Huntress expected the same in return. "I've tracked them to this area, but the trail split upriver."
He thought back to all the cats he met but no cat came to mind. He shook his head. "I can't recall. Sorry. Was there anyone else you may be looking for or was that it?"
