Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Flame's whiskers twitched in amusement at Daisykit's bravery. "Your not babies, huh? Your names still end with kit?" She looked over at Lightningkit "Do you always listen to what mama says?"
Daisykit was starting to get really annoyed. "So what we still have 'kit'?! That won't be for long! And when I'm an apprentice, I'm gonna be the strongest one in all of MoonClan!" She growled through gritted teeth.
"If we always listen to mama and papa, would we even be here, fox-brain?" She squinted as her maw formed into a smirk. She wasn't scared of this stranger- no matter how big and scary she is!
"Well, I guess we will have to see if you live up to those expectations then, huh?" She responded to Daisykit with a twitch of her ear. "I have a feeling we will meet again very soon" She held Daisykit's gaze steadily with an eerie grin.
"If you're gonna be the strongest apprentice, then I'm gonna be leader like Phoenxistar!" Lightningkit chimed in. She knew they were related to MoonClan's leader, even if it was a little distantly but she was still related to several MoonClan leaders, present and old and she, much like the rest of her family was proud of this fact, even if they didn't really boast about it.
"Why would we see you again? You're not from MoonClan." Lightningkit asked a little confused.
She laughed really hard before she caught her breath and replied, "I'm not from Moonclan, she says." She took a deep breath, steadying herself again. "Oh, honey. I'm pure Moonclan. Though, your precious clan betrayed me and therefore, I left them." She figured that was all they really needed to know about her. She didn't want them to go running to Silvershine and tell them who exactly they saw. Though her mother and her sister Pinesong could probably guess who they were talking about. "I say we get you three back home, yes?"
"Let 'em. They don't scare us." Daisykit matched the stranger's threat. Really, this she-cat was trying too hard at this point in the young kits eyes. They weren't scared- at least, Daisykit wasn't.
"Oh great spirits, help me" Flame mumbled in annoyance. "Listen, kit. You can either stand out here until dark where predators lurk inside every shadow or you can come with me back to camp safe and sound with your mother."
"The dark doesn't scare us." Lightningkit said, chest puffing out in faux courage. Honestly, the idea of being out in unknown territory on their own in the dark was a little worrying but she wasn't about to let the older stranger know that.
Flame chuckled, "okay, fine. Say hello to the owls for me, then. You will be a nice feast to them." The ginger she-cat turned away, heading for the shadows.
Mudkit shrank down, "guys, maybe we should go back...I dont want to be owl food..."
Now that one of her siblings had spoken up first about going back home with the stranger, Lightningkit felt a little better about agreeing. "Maybe you're right." she said to her brother. She looked around at the quickly darkening forest and thought she saw something swoop down out of a tree but hoped it was just her imagination. "Wait! Show us how to get back to camp." she called after Flame desperately. "Please!" she added after a few seconds.
Flame looked over her shoulder with a grin before turning around to face the kits again. "I knew you were smarter than that." Flame purred. "Follow me, camp is this way" she mewed, walking in the direction of camp, flicking her tail for them to follow.
Mudkit looked at his siblings nervously before following Flame hesitantly.
Mudkit stayed beside Lightningkit, hoping he could trust this cat.
After a few moments, Flame halted. Her ears swivelled and her nose twitched. Suddenly, her eyes widened and her heart began to race. She searched around and noticed a hollow log nearby. "Quickly, get in there!" She ordered the kits, shoving them into that direction. "Whatever you do, do not leave this log! No matter what happens, you stay there! You stay until I come back for you. If I do not return, you stay in this log until sunrise. Do you understand?" Her eyes were wide and her voice rushed and panicky.
Lightningkit stumbled when Flame shoved her towards the hollow log. She darted inside, following her orders because she could hear the desperation in the she-cat's voice but she still stuck her head out and asked "Why? What's going on?"
"Just stay, okay?" She shoved the rest of the kits into the hollow log and spun around.
Mudkit slid in with his siblings, shaking with fear.
A snarl could be heard splitting through the air followed by a furious hiss. "Get out of here, you mange-pelt!" The stench of fox swamped the area, choking out the rest of the scents around them. A yipe sounded from the fox as Flame landed a blow across it's muzzle.Thinking quickly, Flame darted off, the fox in pursuit and hard on her heels. Great. This is how I will die. Saving a bunch of kits that snuck out of camp? she thought, questioning her actions as she led the fox further away from the kits. She didn't have time to climb a tree. She could feel the heat of the fox's breath on her heels as she ran. She was running out of stamina until she noticed a fast flowing river ahead of her. This would be the easiest way to lose the fox. She just hoped the fox wouldn't go back to look for the kits. She plunged into the rushing river, the cool water coming as a shock to her. The fox skidded to a halt beside the river, not daring to follow the flame pelted she-cat to it's possible death. With a snarl of frustration for losing its prey, it turned away and stalked off.
Flame fought through the fast flowing current as it swept her further down river, tugging on her body in an attempt to pull her under but the former Moonclan warrior was stronger and fought the current well despite her level of stamina draining. She was surviving based off of pure adrenaline. Finally, a branch dipped into the river, the current bubbling up around it. She managed to move herself to the branch and grabbed it, sinking her claws into the soft bark. She heaved herself up and onto the shore, gasping for breath. Gathering up all the strength she had left, she returned to the spot she left the kits. Water was still streaming from her flaming pelt as she approached the kits who were hidden in the log. She was relieved that the fox hadn't come back to find the kits. "Is everyone okay?" she asked, shaking droplets of water from her fur.
Lightningkit cowered down into the log when she heard the snarl and smelled the unfamiliar stink of fox fill the air. She whimpered softly when she heard the sound of running paws, thinking that Flame was abandoning them to the fox but then she heard the scramble of the fox following the older she-cat.
After a few minutes she heard Flame coming back and was scared at first that it was just the fox coming back but when she heard Flame ask if they were all okay, she relaxed. She stumbled out of the hollow log on shaking legs and nodded. "Yeah, we're okay."
Mudkit followed Lightningkit, his eyes round with fear. "What was that thing?" He asked, his voice shaking.
"That was a fox. And if I would have left you alone in the forest, that monster would probably have found you and made you its dinner." Her fur rose along her spine as her eyes turned from worry to anger. "This is why you do not leave the camp alone!" Suddenly, she heard a snap of a twig and her first thought was that the fox had come back. She stepped in front of the kits, preparing to face the narrow snouted beast again. By her surprise, she saw her mother step out of the ferns, her silver fur illuminating in the dim light of the sinking sun.
When Silvershine's icy blue gaze rested on Flame and the kits, her fur rose in outrage. "You dare steal my kits?" The silver tabby queen marched up to Flame, pressing her muzzle close to the ginger cat's muzzle.
Flame stared back cooly but her tail tip twitched in frustration. "Maybe if you kept a closer eye on your kits, they wouldnt have run off!"
Silvershine barred her teeth, flexing her claws. "Leave Moonclan territory now before I call for a patrol!"
Lightningkit was glad that they had decided to stick with Flame, that fox had been terrifying far away and she didn't know what they could have done if Flame had really left them alone.
At the sound of more paw steps approaching, she cowered back thinking it was the fox again but when she saw that it was her mother, Lightningkit was both relieved and a little scared. However, when she went after Flame for trying to kidnap them, she had to stand up for the almost complete stranger. "She didn't try to take us, she was trying to get us to go back to camp and then was leading us back when a fox found us and she drove it off." Lightningkit said.
