Glowstar almost screamed seeing her apprentice in the water. Did she know how to swim. She grimaced, this was going to take a lot out of her. Apart of her kept pressing on feeling if she still was the leagues proxy she would be expected to keep up with all of this. If she needed to keep her mates head above water and save an apprentice then that was what she had to deal with.
Glowstar let go of Deal and ducked under water forcing Deal back on top of her. His head on top of hers as she breathed heavily trying to keep up the strength but she needed to guide Spellpaw, “now you gotta catch me. So because I’m struggling a bit swimming and talking I’m slowing down and because your lighter you can come to me faster. So just grab onto me and then you win okay? But you gotta hold onto my back no matter what till I swim to shore. I’m so proud of you already, but I won’t be able to talk so just do as I say and you’ll win,” Glowstar practically begged to Spellpaw before once more releasing Deal and grabbing onto his scruff bringing his head back above water. She forced to tread a bit against the current so Spellpaw could grab onto her back. She glanced around for a place to bring them to shore. The water was cold so it would have to be a place they could warm up out of the wind.
SunClan Skipstep reached the river shortly after them. He saw Spellpaw treading water after Glowstar. His ears flattened. A swimmer he was not, but he didnt know if Spellpaw could keep her head above water for long. So gritting his teeth he jumped in after them. Hissing at the icy cold sting of the water. There was no way hed be able to make it through this water and keep chasing after her. But he didnt dare risk the sun gods dissaproval. Every task done, every demonstration of undying loyalty would ensure his family stayed in the Sun God'sgood graces so gritting his teeth he forced his body to move. He tried running along the bottom but eventually it grew deeper and there he started to flounder but he kept stubbornly after them. He keot an eye on spellpaw ready to grab her if she showed signs of distress but really he was struggling far more than she was.

Burningstar turned to Mountainsound ears pricked amber eyes showing her surprise. She and soaringbird exchanged glances.
"It is still useful to know their may be someone who can undo this," Burningstar said dipping her head to Mountainsound. "I may not know how the whole story... but that curse felt like a step too far." Her ears lowered as she thought of Glowstar's reaction. "I just feel awful for Glowstar. She really loved him,"
"And she'll be happy again! We'll break this curse," Soaringbird said firmly. "She helped us out, so we owe her to help fix this."
"But what if we fix this and Foxstar just, curses him again?" Burningstar asked. "I doubt shes limited to only cursing a cat once... i think." She tilted her head. "Ive only learned of rhe sun god and other dieties fairly recently, theres so much we dont know."

SUNCLAN He looked over at her, grateful for her offer. It might do her some good to spend time around a Sunclan warrior after all, maybe it would help strengthen her bond and loyalty she would need to survive the initiation. "I can show you some good hunting places?" He suggested. After all, she would need to learn these things and he really didn't want to be alone right now. Yet, of all cats he could pick to learn on it was an initiate she-cat from Dayclan.

Spellpaw was slightly disappointed that instead of giving her tips on how to swim Glowstar just told her to hold on. But whatever, it didn't matter. Holding onto her mentor tightly, and seeming to forget Skipstep, the she-cat used her back legs to paddle on pure instinct. It wasn't much, and she wasn't sure if she was really supposed to do that, yet it felt right, so the she-cat didn't really question it.
Mountainsound shook her head ever so slightly. "I don't know about cursing him again, but even if he doesn't, Foxstar will just go after him again in a different way, and anyone else who helps him. She was willing to risk Glowstar's wrath for this, and the hatred of all who support him. If you help him, she may very well turn her sights on you." Her warning wasn't meant to deter them, just to inform them of the lengths in which Foxstar was willing to go.
Skipstep was relieved to see that Glowstar wasn't going to let Spellpaw drown, so without having to worry about her he turned to worrying about himself. He squinted through the water that splashed into his eyes trying to see what Glowstar was doing to try and imitate her. He was still burning a lot of energy trying to claw his way after them though, just too unfamiliar with moving through water. But he couldn't exactly stop now. He'd have to swim back anyways, so he just had to grit his teeth summon his strength and follow them.

Burningstar tilted her head. "But why? What could he have possibly done that made her hate him so?" She asked.

"That, is a long, long, story, Burningstar. To explain Deal and Foxstar's past, we have to go back years, to when Foxstar was a young warrior, and I was SunClan's medicine cat, right to the very beginning." This was a story that went back so far, there were few cats who knew the entire tale. Autumngossamer would learn of it eventually, and Foxstar had never expressly forbidden her to tell others, though she was treading a dangerous line by doing so. Right now, however, she wasn't sure she cared. "We would be best finding somewhere more to ourselves to talk, however." While she hadn't been forbidden before, Foxstar may very well stop her from talking if she overheard.
Burningstar nodded. "I would like to better understand," She meowed softly. She turned to Soaringbird. "I think you can let her up." She said nodding to Autumngossamer, before turning back to Mountainsound. "Lead the way, we don't mind you picking a spot you prefer... Oh... I don't believe we've actually been formally acquainted, what's your name? I've seen you around but haven't caught it. My apologies." She said a bit embarassed by the fact she didn't know the older she cat's name. "And that's Soaringbird my sister, she hasn't been out and about because she's in camp raising her four kits."
Soaringbird huffed. "And I was just getting comfortable." She said with a put upon sigh, but she got up, and let the Janus up. "And yes, my little terrors. But we're getting sidetracked, we've got some backstory to learn." The silver tabby meowed.

"My name is Mountainsound. I'm Deal's adoptive mother." Her name was one that was slowly being lost to time outside of SunClan, though she was one of the longest reigning medicine cats, having served under one third of the leaders SunClan had been lead by, and the one to have taught Foxstar everything she knew. But that was a story for a different day. Her voiced explanation was more than enough to give an idea as to why she would be so willing to help the NightClan leader to understand the animosity between them.
Burningstar nodded, "I see, thats... Im so sorry this happened to your adopted son." She said softly. She had just recently adopted Bonfirekit. The idea of something like this happening to him made her throat tighten, and she couldnt imagine how Mountainsound felt.
Glowstar heard another splash in the water. Did every SunClan cat know how to swim? She turned back around to find that the answer was no, he didn't seem to be doing too well. But well enough. She couldn't guide Spellpaw through swimming, not while carrying Deal, it was why she had her latch onto her back. Glowstar swam enough to keep each of their heads above the water navigating down the opposite side of the stream. When she saw a lower shoreline, one that sloped down rather than curved up she used most of her strength to force through the straight current to get to it. Since they had already been at the border they had washed down quite a ways into rogue territory.
Glowstar heaved herself onto the shore letting Spellpaw get off her back first before dragging Deal away from the shore and over to a cluster of trees. She coughed upon releasing Deal onto his side, "Alright Spellpaw, I gotta go save your helpless clanmate so you're going to practice survival skills and I'll check back up on you. Let's pretend for a moment that Deal's your clan mate, you're going to curl into his his chest area, not around his back. You need to preserve the heart and lungs which pump blood to his brain, don't even ask how I know that, the details are not pretty. Now as far as I'm concerned Deal is our prisoner and I know how this works, I'll turn around and Deal will be gone so."
Glowstar wiped some mud all over Deal's legs and paws which really wasn't a good thing to do since dirt helped cool someone down, not heat them up, but if he walked off she could follow the trail, "When you want to track a victim, but are afraid they'll leave you not only make sure there's something to visually follow, but also make sure you can commit the scent to memory to track after them. So go curl up into Deal and lick your own chest, I'll come back to help you."
Glowstar ran back over to the shoreline above the water, "Skipstep?" She called out, her eyes scanning the river looking for any signs of the tom. As she searched her stomach tightened wondering if he went under one too many times and if he didn't call back immediately she would have to dive in and find him.
"Here-" Skipstep cried before he was cut off going over coughing as he swallowed too much water and his head went under. He'd realized earlier he wasn't going to make it across and had instead started focusing on just keeping his head above water. But now his legs were cramping and he was now just struggling to keep his head up. He flailed a forepaw over the surface trying to let Glowstar know where he was as he sunk under.
Glowstar could feel herself trembling, the cold water, the exertion she put herself through. The absolute emotional exhaustion begging her to collapse. She kept her breathing as tame as she could as she dived back into the freezing waters. Fighting someone was less dangerous than rescuing a person out of water who was very much struggling for their life. They had only the primal urge to survive and would latch onto anything and everything they could that would lead them to the surface. Glowstar swam up behind Skipstep and grabbed him by the scruff. She tried to ignore the cold numbing her and the darkness shrouding around her eyes sending her into tunnel vision. She didn't want him to die. She had been where he was, a loyal guard who would do anything for the group and leader she was assigned to protecting. Letting go felt like letting go of herself in some alternate timeline where she kept to the path she was at.
She broke to the surface with him tugging him away from the current and back onto the shore. Her entire body was shaking. There were too many people she had to stay awake for. She gripped onto Skipstep's scruff again and dragged him over to where she had left Deal and Spellpaw before letting him go and collapsing onto the floor next to him. Her breaths felt shallow.
SunClan Skipstep coughed and spluttered sprawling out on the shore flanks heaving. His whole body feeling numb from the cold and he shivered. "Thanks," He rasped to Glowstar. For a moment there he was certain he'd be joining Littlebirds kits in the land beyond.
Glowstar lied there for a long time shivering before crawling over to his side and licking at his fur the wrong way to warm him up especially along his chest, "I'm not going back with you."
She wasn't even entirely sure if she meant that. She was exhausted and could barely move anymore. When Deal would awake he'd be healed, ready to leave and if he left what else did she have to do, but return? Although that was another problem, how were they going to return? They were on the opposite side of the stream. The water was cold. She could barely walk and the SunClan cats had all been through the freezing waters too. Although Spellpaw's upper body was likely less cold than Skipstep and hers. Just returning back to SunClan would be dangerous from the cold. He was just lucky she had the strength to say that and not to yell at him for jumping into a body of water when he couldn't swim.
