(I am looking for a fling or a mate for her, mostly. I want to give her a litter of kits but the other cat's involvement can vary however you would like.)
Pickles felt like her world had become so much smaller. Life outside of the clan was more difficult in a lot of ways. Looking for food, shelter, staying out of trouble. Monsters, snakes, badgers, foxes, dogs, two-legs. Sickness. She had lost her brother to sickness when they were extremely young. The brown she-cat had been born in a very small litter and before reaching a year old it was just her. They never had a father that she knew of and their mother had up and disappeared after two seasons. By the end of her fourth season she was completely alone. Luckily she had learned basically survival skills already and they had done her well over the past few years. She had not met many cats in between then and joining Summerclan, however, and her skills were sorely lacking.
Wake up, maybe a patrol, hunting, eat, bathe, relax, sleep. She managed to keep herself busy with her duties and Pickles mind did not wander far but... even after living in solitude for years she felt lonely. Especially when she saw the families within the clans. Some were small but some were unfathomable large. They cared for each other and stuck by one another side. It brought a sad sense of longing. Even if she couldn't have a family like that it would be nice to at least have a friend like that. The ones who really baffled her were the lovey dovey mates. She had witnessed a few moments that made her blush and feel like an intruder even though they were all in a public space. That was an intimacy she had never experienced or considered before.
Pulling herself out of her thoughts, she went after a nearby mouse and killed it with a swift blow. She may not know much about relationships or intimacy but she knew a few things about catching mice.

"Nice catch," a voice behind Pickles meowed. "I haven't had much luck myself, only a couple of feathers from a cardinal that got away." A white tom with gray tabby patches stepped into view. "Have you caught anything else or is this your first of the day?" Skycloud asked. He had kept pretty much to himself ever since his mate had died two seasons ago. But now he wanted to get on with his life. He figured his time of grieving was over.

(Please excuse any spelling or error mistakes, I am on mobile for most of my posts these days c: Also hello! It's nice to roleplay with you after such a long time!)
It was almost like the cat had heard her thoughts on loud. She was thinking about not having any friends or family to rely on and no one to talk to and boom, finally someone talked to her. It was almost funny even though it was surely a coincidence. Despite wishing for someone to talk to she suddenly felt a bit anxious and nervous. The small brown she-cat dipped her head in greeting, "T-this is my first c-catch today. The prey is b-being elusive this morning." She smiled shyly. Pickles had a tendency to stammer over her words a little bit when talking to unfamiliar cats. She felt like she sounded small and hoarse from not having spoken in so long too.

(It's nice to roleplay again with you. When I saw you had started a thread, I just had to reply to it!)
Is she afraid of me or just extremely shy? Skycloud wondered. He had seen Pickles around the camp but never really had much opportunity to speak with her until now. Now that he thought about it, when he did see her she was usually off by herself. Perhaps she is just shy but either way I want her to feel at ease around me.
He tried to smile in the sweetest way, not just with his mouth but a real smile that included his eyes too. "That's true," he replied. "And they're really pretty in flower crowns too. It's a shame I didn't save them. I could have given them to you. Oh, by the way, I'm Skycloud," he added with a dip of his head. "In case you didn't already know."
She had never thought about that either. Summerclan cats frequently wore flower crowns but she had not yet warmed up to the tradition. Aside from not knowing how to make one, she felt silly with the adornment on her head. How did it not just go flying off at any given moment? "It's ni-nice to meet you. I'm Pick-pickles." She was feeling a little embarrassed about stumbling over her words. This was the first cat she'd talked to in quite some time and the brown she-cat felt as though she were making a fool of herself.
He seemed very nice and like a warm cat. Maybe he would be understanding of her?
"I forget a-ab-about the flower crowns. I've n-never made one." It was harder to say than she realized.

"I never did either," the white and gray tom replied. He wanted to ask Pickles about her stuttering but was afraid it might make her more nervous. "I really don't want to run around with flowers coming out of my head but if some cats like to do that, it's up to them." The mental picture that his words brought to mind made him laugh softly. It was an image of a goofy looking cat skipping merrily through the wildflower meadow with flowers flying off in all directions.
"So tell me, are you a warrior or a garden keeper?" he asked. "I'm a warrior." He puffed out his chest proudly. He was still young enough to be boastful.

She couldn't help but chuckle, but she was afraid to speak. She felt a little silly stuttering like this, but it had developed over time from lack of practice socializing and a not talking hardly at all day after day. As a result, she felt an unusual amount of anxiety. Normally, she was pretty confident and trusted her skills and judgment calls. Not so much with other cats.
"W-warrior, definitely. I liv-lived by myself for a long time. A-all I know is hu-hunting and fighting." She fought the stutter but it only seemed to worsen. Maybe the more they talked it would calm itself down naturally. She had no real point of reference at this point, but he seemed comfortable to be around. "I grew u-up in the city. D-did you grow up here?"
Not knowing why Pickles kept stuttering, Skycloud sat down and wrapped his tail around and placed it's tip over his front paws. He thought the relaxed look would be a less threatening position than standing. Perhaps this would help her feel more comfortable around me, he thought.
"I didn't always live in SummerClan although I have SummerClan blood," he replied. "An ancestor of mine was a leader once. My parents lived in the unclaimed lands around the clans. I was with them until they died." A sadness washed over him at the mention of his folks but he continued. "Then Ashensnow, a distant cousin, took me to live in SummerClan. I was only about eight moons at the time. So you grew up in a twoleg place?" He had heard of such places all his life but was told always to steer clear of them. He was fascinated to finally meet a cat who had actually lived in one. "What was it like? Are twolegs as bad as some cats say they are?"

He certainly had quite the story! She wondered what it was like to have ties to others like that. Pickles did not have any such affiliations. It was just her. The thought made her sad but she pushed it away. She had Summerclan now. That was something. "Wow. That's fascinating." She was so caught up in his story that she did not feel nervous speaking this time. He had shared his, she should share at least a little of hers.
"Sort of. I grew up on the street, outside of the homes. I never actually lived inside one. They are like cats in some ways. Some are bad, some are good. Some of them will tolerate you and others will you harm. It was just me for most of my life. My family died when I was young. Two leg streets are very competitive and the rules and order that exist out here do not exist there. You either survive or you don't." She didn't realize how cutthroat the whole thing sounded but she made it sound scary. It certainly hadn't been easy.
"You've just got to be smart." Pickles concluded, feeling embarrassed at how much she had talked.

Wow, she didn't stutter once, Skycloud thought. He was pleased Pickles was becoming more comfortable with talking with him. He didn't like to be intimidating with his clanmates, but with his enemies that was another story.
"It sure sounds like you had a hard life before you came to SummerClan," he meowed. "I can understand a little bit about what you said, being born a loner and all. But we never had much problems with other cats as you seemed to have. If we came across another cat in the forest, by mutual agreement we just left each other alone." Compassion shown in his eyes. It must have been a hard life for her fighting for survival like she had. "You're one brave cat to have gone through what you did. I'm glad you found SummerClan."

Her fur grew warm again and she licked her chest a few times with visible embarrassment. She had never had someone saying anything like that to her. It was nice though. Like she was being recognized. As if, for the first time, someone truly saw her and understood her. It was relieving in some ways and the tension in her slowly dissipated. She had a feeling he would be comfortable to her and Pickles really like that idea.
"I'm glad I found Summerclan too. It's really lovely here. I never expected so many cats could live in peace like this. There seems to be so many resources to go around and knowledge. It's nice being able to rely on others sometimes." She admitted, green eyes glancing down at her paws and then back up to him. "Has Summerclan always been so welcoming?"

For quite a while Skycloud had kept his distance from any cat since Lightpaw died but now he was finding he was missing that closeness he once shared. Something about this light brown she cat was stirring up longings for companionship within his breast, longings he had once buried were starting to come back to life. I'll see how this goes, he thought as he watched Pickles.
"As far as I know, SummerClan has always been welcoming," he replied. "I felt welcomed even when I first came here and I've seen others who have come after I did be welcomed too." He had heard that some clans weren't as nice to new comers and was glad he didn't join one of them. "So... how would you like to continue our hunting together?" He didn't want to go back to camp empty pawed and the possibility of hunting with this friendly cat was pleasing to him indeed.

"Uhh, yes. Thats a good idea." She glanced down at the mouse sitting at her paws. The brown she-cat had almost forgotten she was hunting. She buried it nearby where it would be easy to come back for later. They were just on the edge of the deepens, she liked having the cover of the trees and the sounds of the forest were pleasant. "Would you like to go further in the deeplands or hunt somewhere else? I do most of my hunting around this area." She admitted. Pickles was certainly a creature of habit if nothing else.
"Who knows, we might be able to catch a good bird or fish," Pickles loved fish. It seemed to be have a mixed reception, but she would never turn down a good fish to eat.

"Fish did you say?" the white and gray warrior asked showing his pleasure. "I love to fish! In fact I love to swim too. Do you like to swim?" Skycloud recalled the many times he went swimming and fishing in the streams of SummerClan. "My favorite place is the small pool below the waterfalls. Have you been there yet? It's not too far from here." The one place he didn't particularly like to swim was in the ocean. While still an apprentice, he was part of the group who discovered the ocean to the south. That was an ill-fated trip he regrets to this day. In fact he had only been back there once since then.

Her face lot up, she had observed that most Summerclan cats did not like to swim. It was a shame considering they actually had quite a few bodies of water in or near their territory. "I love to swim. I haven't been to the waterfalls, though. Would you show them to me?" Excitement and curiosity gleamed in her pale green eyes. She still had much to learn about the clan and the territory. "I've been so all the oceans which was fun. It had been a while since I saw and ocean and I couldn't believe I'm living right next to them." Who would have known that she could be quite chatty once she felt comfortable.

Skycloud was happy to see Pickles more relaxed around him. "I'd be happy to," he said excitedly in response to her question. But when she mentioned the ocean he frowned. "To me oceans aren't fun. I'd rather fish and swim in the streams." His mind flashed back to that awful night, the waves crashing on the shore and the screams and wails of Coalkit as he was being dragged out to the sea. If only they hadn't sneaked out that night and Coalkit hadn't followed them.

She nodded, not minding the preference. "Sure, we can try your spot." He seemed to have an unusual fervor in avoiding the ocean but she was not going to ask him about it, at least not yet. It didn't seem like a good time or a good memory if it was something he wanted to avoid. "Lead the way warrior Skycloud," She smiled sheepishly, her toneplayful.

"Sure! It's this way," he meowed as he started walking toward the waterfalls and it's pool. Pickle's playful tone buoyed his heart. This was a far cry from the timid, stuttering cat he had come across just moments ago. Perhaps I frightened her when I stumbled into her hunt. "Where we're at we're closer to the bottom of the falls. Going to the top is fun too but you have to make sure you don't get caught in the current and get swept over. Wait till you see it, you'll be impressed." For some reason he liked being the one to show her this special landmark in their territory.

"Ooh it's exciting just hearing about it," She admitted, anticipation washing over her. Pickles had only ever seen a waterfall one other time and it had been pretty small and mostly unimpressive. She wondered why he was showing it to her, but was grateful anyways. "I've never swam near a waterfall before, it sounds pretty exciting though!"
Post by Whitemuzzle on Sept 5, 2021 10:41:43 GMT -5
"Oh, it is!," Skycloud replied. "And did I mention it has a rainbow too? We should be able to see it since the sun's out." A steady rumbling could now be heard as they drew closer to the place. "Hear that sound? It's the falls. We're getting closer." In his mind he remembered the first time he saw it while he was still a young apprentice. The tall sheer drop from a rocky cliff dotted with trees, the never ending water rushing over and falling down the cliff's side, and the refreshing mist that was thrown up from the water's crashing force when it hit the pool below, all combined giving him an exhilarating experience, one he gets every time he comes here.
