Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
It was always a constant debate with himself - whether to do or not do something when it comes to interacting with others. Even after being chosen to be a member of the Redguard, he wasn't nearly as social as he should have been. It wasn't that he didn't talk at all, it was that he only talked when he only thought it was necessary or if someone else started a conversation. Although, he had only been in SummerClan for a short period of time, he felt a little envious of his clanmates and their relationships and that's a feeling he didn't handle all too well. Something had to change.
With some inner dialogue and self-reflection, Asher had come to the decision that before the next new moon he would make, or attempt to, at least, make three new friends. But where would he start? He could start with becoming more personable with his fellow Guardsmen, but would they be willing to talk to a mostly unknown outsider such as himself? He would have to find out. Exiting the warriors den, he went in search of his peers.

Ravenmask, an original member of the Red Guard, pawed gingerly through the fresh kill pile. Hooking an unpleasant looking scrawny mouse with a claw, he let it drop back onto the small heap of last night's leftovers. "I can't wait until the warmer weather gets here to stay," he murmured to himself with a wrinkled nose. He knew with the advent of Newleaf, the prey would be much better. I should've joined a morning hunting patrol, he thought as he looked out the camp's entrance.
Upon exiting the den, he spotted a familiar face picking over the freshkill pile. Although he had only known him in the professional capacity in the Red Guard, he felt more comfortable talking to the tom than if it were any of the other members. Perhaps this was a blessing in disguise? This would be a great starting point for him to begin his mission, a way to boost his confidence.
"Ravenmask!" Asher called out as he padded toward the pile. "How are you doing today?"

The gray and black tom looked up when he heard his name called. "I'm alright but my stomach isn't," he meowed as he glanced back at the pitiful pile. "If you're looking for fresh kill, don't bother. The morning hunting patrol hasn't come back yet." None of what was left from the night before looked at all appetizing to him. "All that's left is what no one wanted last night. What would be good right now is a fresh rabbit." He licked his lips at the thought of the succulent juices and the warm aroma that would come from a newly killed bunny. He sighed in disappointment.
Asher dismissed the idea of getting picking anything from the pile, Ravenmask's disappointment with the fresh-kill pile further diminishing his already low appetite. "Well it's a good thing that I'm not hungry, eh?" he said as he sat down nearby. "They should be back anytime soon so you just might get that rabbit." He thought to himself for a moment before an idea hit him, although it may come out strange and out of place in the current moment. "Hey, this might be a random and weird question but what was your opinion of me when I joined SummerClan?"

Ravenmask looked at Asher quizzically. "That was sometime ago right? Wasn't Fairystar leader then? I really can't remember what I thought that long ago. But what does it matter really? You're a fine warrior who's proven yourself even though you tend to be quiet." He gave his shoulders a slight shrug. "If you weren't a loyal member, you'd never have been chosen to be a part of the Red Guard." He cast his eyes toward the camp entrance to see if the sound he heard was the patrol returning but to his chagrin it wasn't. "Anyway, why are you concerned about what I thought about you back then? What's important is how you're acting right now. Is there some cat who's challenging your loyalty?" To pick on one Red Guard member was to pick on them all. He looked about the camp as if to spot the no good accuser.
Aaher tilted his head from side to side. "That's fair, that's fair," he said looking down at his paws. Now that he thought about it, he had been there for a quite a bit of time but it still felt like it was short. Maybe it was a weird thing to ask something like that so suddenly. The tom shook his head at Ravenmask's question. "It's not that. No one is questioning my loyalty." He hesitated for a moment, thinking carefully of what he was going to say next. He wasn't sure if there was anyone else he could have talked to about a subject like this. "It's just that I was curious to see what you thought of an outsider like me. I'm a bit embarrassed to say this but I've come to the realization that I'm not as sociable as I should be and I wanted to change that. I just assumed the other accepted me because I was invited by Fairystar to join the clan."

"There's lots of cats who aren't clanborn here in SummerClan," Ravenmask replied. "The prime example being Ratstar. He lived in twoleg place and never knew we existed until that patrol Graythorn sent out to find him. And if StarClan chose an outsider to be our leader, who's to question them? And like you said, you even had a special invitation from a former leader. Not many of the others who have joined us can even say that." He gave Asher a reassuring smile that reached even to his eyes. He hoped his words were an encouragement to him. "You're a SummerClan cat now and even a member of the Red Guard. So you shouldn't feel inferior to any cat."
"Since you put it like that, yeah, I suppose you're right," the tom replied, shuffling his paws. "But wouldn't that just mean that Fairstar saw something in me that they thought would be of use to SummerClan?" he questioned before shaking his head. "I don't know what Im tying to say. I guess what I'm trying to ask, am I sociable? I look around me and all I see are cats getting along with one another and hanging out with one another and I'm...jealous of that."

Ravenmask smiled. "I wouldn't call you antisocial. You are kinda quiet," he meowed. "But nothings wrong about that. There's some cats I wish were quiet. They meow their heads off all day and actually say nothing, well nothing important, that is." His stomach rumbled again reminding him of his hunger and that gave him an idea. "Say, I'll tell you what. How about you and me head over to the rabbit meadow and get a bite to eat? We can work together and catch one between us and then share it. That is if you don't mind hanging out with me?"
Asher couldn't help but laugh. Ravenmask was right about some of his classmates who talked a little bit too much. But what the tom said next caught him by surprise - an invitation to go hunting. If he could recall, this is the first time anyone had invited to do anything outside of the usual border and hunting patrols and Red Guard duties. His stomach rumbled at the idea of having an actual fresh kill to eat and the patrol didn't seem to be coming back anytime soon like he originally thought.
"You know what? I'll take you up on that offer." he agreed with a smile. At least then, he'll be able to stretch his legs. "I'm ready when you are."

"My stomach tells me I was ready yesterday!" Ravenmask laughed. "Let's go now." He started walking at a fast pace, more of a trot really, to the camp exit. "And on the way you can tell me a bit more about yourself, that is if you want." The gray and black tom was happy to make a new friend. He had several friends in SummerClan but he didn't have one really good friend. Maybe we'll become close friends, he thought as he passed out of the camp.
Asher nodded as he followed close behind Ravenmask. Although, something did trouble him. He had no problem telling him about himself but what would he tell him? I mean, they all know I was a kitty-pet at one point...what else would be something interesting to share? "Um...Ravenmask, well what would you like to know?" he asked. Unsure if he would be oversharing, might be easier for Asher to answer specific questions.

"Oh, I don't know ..." the gray and black tom meowed as he leaped over a fallen branch in the path. "Um, how about what attracted you to join SummerClan? I know Fairystar invited you but I've heard from some that giving up the soft life of a kittypet is very hard." Then he quickly added, "Not to say you haven't adapted. From what I can see, you fit in very well. Anyone would think you were clanborn."
"Heh...about that," Asher started to say, "It wasn't so much so that I gave up the kittypet life, it was more so I didn't have a choice. When my fur started to lose its color when I was as kit, the twolegs dumped me off in the woods for some reason. And since then I had to learn to adapt. I surely wouldn't have been here if Link hadn't taken me." He thought back to the time he was essentially, in clan terms, an apprentice, being shown the ways of survival from the rogue. "But he wasn't the one to travel with other cats, so we eventually parted ways and that's why I'm here." Of course there was more to the story but it was just minor details.

"Interesting," Ravenmask said thoughtfully. "I've heard that twolegs can be fox hearted creatures and that just proves it." He shook his head in disgust. "Markings and colorings are what helps to make each cat unique. I see nothing wrong with how you look. I wonder if twolegs would have thrown me out because of my black mask?" A slight breeze ruffled his fur bringing with it a mix of fresh Newleaf scents. "No offense but I wonder how any cat could stand to be locked up with twolegs when the forest smells, especially during this time of year, makes one feel so alive. Well anyway, it was good some cat helped to take care of you when you needed it. That proves cats are better than twolegs any day! Right?"
"Yeah, I suppose you're right. Although when I was with the twolegs, I never had to want for food, water, or shelter. Out here though, it's a different story." He looked at the surrounding trees and grass. "Oh, that reminds me, what's it like being clan-born? What were your parents like, assuming you had the chance to meet." Unfortunately for Asher, instead of seeing his mother, he saw twolegs and that's all he's ever known through hit kithood.

He nodded when Asher spoke of having no want for food and shelter as a kittypet. He knew that was probably the biggest draw for cats to stay with twolegs. Clan cats had always referred to that as the easy way to live. Many cats he knew looked down on kittypets for wanting that kind of life but he never did. It was up to each cat to chose how they want to live.
"I never really knew my father," Ravenmask replied. "He died while I was still a kit so I don't remember too much about him. What I do recall is that he was kind and brave, a fierce warrior. He died in a battle with rogues who were intent on making part of SummerClan territory their hunting grounds. From what I was told, his death spurred on the rest of the patrol into driving the poachers off for good." Ravenmask glanced up at the sky and wondered what his father was doing now in StarClan. "I was the only one of my littermates to survive. I had a brother and a sister who died a few days after we were born. I can't remember them of course so I don't really miss them. But I do wonder what it would have been like if they had lived. It would have been nice to have siblings. Ashensnow, one of the cats who died from green cough last season, was my mother." He was quiet for a moment remembering his loss. "She was a good mom and tried to raise me right. I think she did a good job," he laughed.
Asher frowned, both in envy and in sadness. He couldn't honestly say he understood what loss was since it's something that he had yet to experience, but he was jealous that he knew at least one of his parents or his siblings. "I'm...sorry to hear that," he meowed, unsure of what else to say, "At least you grew up in a loving family." He never thought about it before but he wondered if his mother and father were alive and if he had any siblings. I must have had siblings, but they were taken by twolegs before I knew them....right?, he thought to himself.
The tom fell silent as he followed behind Ravenmask, thinking of how to get out of such a somber mood. On one hand, he didn't want to seem like he was just brushing off what he was just told but he didn't want to have the feeling linger in the air. This was supposed to be a hunting trip after all.

"Yes, I'll always be grateful for that." Ravenmask could tell something was bothering Asher but he didn't want to pry. They were just getting to know each other. If they were friends for a long time he probably would have asked. Perhaps it was something about growing up in a loving family? He didn't have any idea about how kittypets grew up.
He realized they'd reached the main stream already, the rabbit meadow was just on the other side. "Almost there!" he said changing the subject. He turned his feet toward the stepping stones. "Those rabbits won't stand a chance with us on the prowl!" A sound growled from his belly as almost it was in agreeing with his statement.
