Conveniently, there was talk of a nomadic clan arriving and settling in the area near the Mountain Clans. It had been a very eventful few moons since Devotedcrow last saw his family in the aftermath of SunClan's fire, and he was particularly excited this time to reunite with the estranged members. There were a certain number of surprises he had for them, one of which would be following behind for a truly dramatic entrance, but for now he sat and waited patiently for a SwiftClan patrol that might arrive to direct him to his family.

"Ok ok " came the familiar voiced of a certain tom that Devotedcrow was sure to recognize "This time add a little more of the slime to your coat before you do it again" Desertpaw had brought out one of the clan's kits out here to try an experiment. After all the kit was almost ready to be an apprentice anyway, so there was no harm in doing so. He watched as Secretkit wiggled between two stones, his fur coated in frog slime "If my prediction is right, than you should be able to squeeze through and even smaller gap between the stones"
His brother's voice was invitation enough, Crow moving forward to the sound and tilting his head curiously at the scene unfolding in front of him, Desertpaw instructing a slimy kit. "The training in SwiftClan is...very unique, I see," he laughed, amusement doubling at the startled expression that flashed across his brother's face. "Hey, Desert, it's been a while." The SwiftClan apprentice's dark-furred sibling limped forward to nuzzle him fondly in greeting, and he cast a smile at Secretkit though contact was out of the question for sure.
Another figure loomed behind Crow, one Desertpaw would not know. The new tom was a rather large, longhair, charcoal bengal with blazing amber eyes. Scars riddled his body, with one particularly gruesome one across his neck. He had just arrived not from SummerClan's territory, but WinterClan's. Agonywail's form stalked across the land until he stood next Crow, and observed whatever these cats were doing. It was certainly strange, and such behavior would never fly in WinterClan. There was always more to do there than in the other Clans, in part due to the hostile environment that never let up year-round. "Who is this?" His voice carried a thick Arabic-like accent.

"Crow" Desertpaw chirrped running up to his brother leaving the kit to struggle trying to make his way through the tight squeeze "What are you doing here" then his gaze turned to the strange big cat that was following him. He didn't know who that cat was, nor did he particularly care "The name is Captain Desert" he said proudly puffing out his chest, not asking the other cats name assuming that he was here with crow
Ghostcrown was trying his absolute hardest to be a better father to his children, and that included following Desertpaw on some of his expeditions, but every time he tried to raise the subject with his son, he disappeared. He couldn't tell if it was intentional or if Desertpaw simply didn't want him around, but until they had a chance to talk about it, he spent his days tracking him down.
As he wove through the undergrowth he spotted the kit struggling between the stones, and his son's back facing away. Ghostcrown shook his head and hurried to help the little cat, scooping his paw around behind Secretkit and gently but firmly pulling him toward the warrior. "Hold on, you're almost out," he promised, looking up to reprimand Desertpaw for leaving him alone, but now that he was close he saw his son wasn't alone.
"Crow?" he whispered, hardly daring to breathe, afraid if he so much as blinked, his son would leave him again.
"Crowpaw!" Spiritpaw was not the most affectionate she-cat but it had been a long time since she'd seen her brother, in fact she had been almost certain he had perished in the fire with Raypaw. Seeing him alive and well was like a huge weight off her shoulders and she actually had to hold herself back from grabbing him and pulling him close. Even she knew that was too out of her character, it would be weird, besides Desertpaw would probably be jealous and she didn't want to touch him too, "Where have you been? And who is this?"
She narrowed her eyes at Agonywail and felt her heart rate pick up. He was pretty cute, totally the bad boy type that was also her type, but she knew such thoughts were dangerous on first impressions. His proximity with Crowpaw and his bengal markings gave her the impression that he may be a relative of their mother's. Spiritpaw decided to avoid direct eye contact for now and continued to focus on her long lost brother.

Of course Spiritpaw had to show up now, a growl rumbaing in his throat. He still hadn't forgiven her for slapping him, as his fur bristled outwards "I saw Crowpaw first" his tail lashed back and forth "So why don't you just go back to whatever you were doing and let me see our brother"
Secretkit, at least hadn't been harmed in the experiment as Ghostcrown eased him out of the hole "Thank you!" he chirrped racing over to where the apprentices were talking "Hey!" he rubbed his body over Agonywail and Devotedcrows legs, the slime the covered him getting everywhere while he purred warmly. He didn't know these cats, but Captain Desert did so that was all that matter "You look like a lot of fun. Did you come to play with me and Captain Desert?"
"Hey, everyone," purred the SummerClan warrior a bit more bashfully now that most of their eyes were on him, but he drew strength from Agonywail's presence beside him. "It's Devotedcrow now, but I still go by Crow mostly. This is Agonywail, our half-brother from WinterClan." He directed the introduction to everyone present, though his gaze hovered on Spiritpaw knowingly, taking in the sight of how enraptured she appeared by the WinterClan knight.
At Ghostcrown's arrival and trepid breath, he managed a meek smile and a quiet "Hey dad. Good to see you." Secretkit helped to ease the nerves swamimg his belly, the simple mirth of a kitten reminding him of one of the reasons he'd sought SwiftClan out. "There's a lot of things that have happened since we last saw each other. I came to tell you all that our family has expanded in SummerClan-- I have six wonderful, healthy kits. Drizzlekit, Oceankit, Cinderkit, Firekit, Eveningkit, and Crownedkit. I would love to have you meet them one day."
Ghostcrown rose to his paws and approached them cautiously, and he was relieved by the simple greeting. Anything was better than Devotedcrow's hatred. He pushed his away between Desertpaw and Spiritpaw, hoping his presence was enough to keep them from fighting for now.
"You have kits?" He blinked, unsure what to think at first. Devotedcroe was so young, he couldn't be a father yet, and that meant Ghostcrown was a grandfather. He didn't feel that old! Was this how his mother felt when he showed up with his little bundles of joy? How could he be a good grandfather now, and from so far away? Ghostcrown blinked as he realized it didn't matter. His son had kits.
And the black tom bounded forward and butted his head against Devotedcrow's affectionate, a great purr rumbling in his throat. "Oh Devotedcrow, that's great news! I want to know everything about them. Have you told your mother? She must be thrilled too!"
This side of the family was certainly... different. He and his sister were raised differently, he knew that much. WinterClan hardened their souls, and yet this side of the family seemed to be so friendly, save for Desertpaw's feud with Spiritpaw. But that seemed to be more of a sibling thing that anything else, nothing that could not be resolved in time. He worked with his sister remarkable well when she was alive, and they had their fights. It sucked, but they worked them out in the end.
He was snapped from his thoughts when he felt the little kitten running between his legs. His gaze shot downward and his blazing amber eyes narrowed on the kitten. "Please, do not get any more of that slime on me." He fluffed out his long coat with a paw. "It's hard to get out with fur like this." He gently pushed Secretkit away.
He couldn't help but feel a twinge of jealousy at Ghostcrown's show of affection for his son. He never met his father, nor did his mother ever dote on him and his sister. All the had was each other, and that had been gone for a while. He did have Howlingnight as a sort of psuedo-father, but he knew that such a relationship could never be replicated well by a mentor.

Sending one last harsh glare at his sister, he turned to Devotedcrow with a big grin "Thats great news!" a warm purr rumbled in his throat "I have to meet them. I need to observe them. I'm curious to see what sort of genetics they inherited from you, and I love to run some experiments on them!" it probably sounded odd to most cats, but those that knew him well knew that Desertpaw only experimented on things that he cared about. It was his way of showing affection and interest, even though most cats didn't see it that way "I have been experimenting on this one all day, and he is fine"
Secretkit pouted, running back to Desertpaw and sitting between his paws while poking out his bottom lip "I just wanted to say hi..." the poor kit looked rather pitiful, his big wide blue eyes starting to water
Despite his reservations about opening up to his father, the memory of that fateful night that changed all their lives still a sore wound, the instant he asked about the kits, Crow's eyes glimmered and he started to speak more openly. "They're all quite the little characters. I'm not sure how you or mom managed to to deal with us single-pawed, honestly. It takes both Orchiddrop and I to keep them all in line," he laughed. "Cinderkit is a sweetheart but Firekit ropes her into all of his nonsense. He's a lot like Chief Desert here actually. Oceankit has an imagination wider than any of us, and Eveningkit is curious but she's the most withdrawn out of the litter. Drizzlekit thinks birds are agents sent by SunClan." Maybe telling them stories about the sun cult this early on in their lives wasn't his best plan, but hey, he was still learning! "And Crownedkit likes to tell stories to the others, but there are a lot of exaggerated aspects, of course." His tone was like warm honey, all his love for his wonderful children pouring out of him, and he leaned against Desertpaw as he spoke in a silent agreement.
"Mom was actually there when they were born," Crow continued, and suddenly his expression was somber, but he shook it away. That was a story for another time. A twinge of hope weaseling into his voice, his eyes roved between his father and all three of his siblings, as he also wanted this offer to extend to Agonywail. "You are all welcome to visit them anytime. I'm sure Ratstar won't have any qualms if I speak to him ahead of time But there is something else I needed to tell you... about Raypaw."
Ghostcrown smiled tenderly as he pictured each of the little kittens, filled with love and longing. He couldn't wait to meet them. Some day soon, he hoped, he could go with them; Secretkit's mother still needed his support with her pregnancy, but surely she could spare a day for him to be with his new family. She had his brother, and Firetooth knew how to handle her better than Ghostcrown did. His mind explored the possibilities, wondering which day he ought to leave, but in the end, it didn't matter. He would go whenever Devotedcrow and Ratstar would allow him. This time, he wouldn't choose anyone over his own kits.
"At least they like you," he purred, thinking back to when he had first met his children. They had been so insulting... that was how he had known they were definitely his and Igziq's. "They sound like a pawful. I want to meet them as soon as I can." His grin grew fiercer, trying to show his son just how strongly he meant his words. Devotedcrow had changed so much since they last met. He wanted to change too.
But his smile faltered at his daughter's name, and the jet black tom squeezed his eyes shut. "Did you . . . did you find her body? Is there to be a funeral?" She should be buried on SunClan land, but Ghostcrown couldn't walk those lands again. If they asked him to, he would; he would never miss Raypaw's burial, even if it meant his capture and execution. But was that where she wanted to rest? Would she prefer to be buried in the lands she roamed before she came to the clan - before he had killed her?
"I'll talk to Ratstar as soon as I'm back in SummerClan so you guys can come by before... before SwiftClan moves again." It hurt his heart to know this arrangement wouldn't be permanent, given the clan's nomadic nature. He got lucky this time, but tracking the clan down wouldn't always be so easy.
But that was a problem for another day. Ghostcrown's pain was raw and clearly still fresh; he'd known his mother would have driven that knife deep into his father's heart after they'd discovered Raypaw'a ashes. "I found her. Raypaw is alive, dad. She survived the fire." There wasn't anything else to say-- those words alone would be a great shock and relief to his family members, who all had varying colors of disbelief on their features as the information began to register. Had he not been the one to find her, he wouldn't have believed it himself-- but his sister was alive and well, and just as mouthy as before.
Just as he spoke and familiar silver bengal pelt came into view. No, Raypaw was not at her finest. The walk over to where SwiftClan was camping did a number on her. As she walked towards them she was panting at a mile a minute. Still, her eyes had the same fire that made her call her father ugly when they first met. She smiled and shouted. "Hey, ugly!" She then broke down into a coughing fit, but kept going as if it never happened. Most of the burn marks had healed somewhat, but her lack of care in NightClan made them still clearly visible. Perhaps more noticeable was her ragged breathing.
Agonywail rolled his eyes as the she-cat came over the horizon. He had met her before, and was not a fan. But, he was hardly of anyone's, let alone someone who found pleasure in giving everyone a terrible nickname.

Desertpaw leaned against this brother purring as he listened to his brother drone on about his kits. Of course he was curious about them, but when Devotedcrow mentioned that one of the kits was like him it caught his attention. A mini Desert? Oh how much fun was that going to be?!?!?! His mind was made up, he had to go meet this Firekit and see how smart the little kit was that his brother would compare them. He opened his mouth to say something, but before he could an all to familiar voice reached his ear.
His head swung around, eyes blinking as he took in the sight. But for one only one words managed to make it past his unfiltered lips "inconceivable'
His world collapsed as the words echoed in his ears. She was all he saw: stroked silver and defiant eyes and her mother's fire, and he scarcely noticed her burned body or her breathlessness. She had more breath than he did, it was all knocked out of his chest, and he forgot how to inhale again. Raypaw was dead. She had been a victim of the flames, but in his dreams, she was his prey. She was the nightmare that broke him when he faced Igziq's poisons. She was gone, but now... now she was back?
Ghostcrown crossed the distance in a daze. She smelled different now, damp and dark and crisp, but beneath it all, he could taste her familiar scent. He would never forget his own daughter. He sniffed and then he lunged and held her close against him, burying his face in her fur and breathing in her scent, trembling like a leaf into the wind. He struggled to speak but his throat was too thick. Instead, he hugged her closer, silent tears streaming down his face.
His heart swelled as he watched the reunion, but Crow hung back, allowing the rest of their family to fawn over Raypaw and confirm for themselves that she was alive. He'd had his time with his sister and would have plenty more where that came from, though it was clear he was concerned for her welfare. "I told her to stay in camp and rest," he said, with an exasperated sigh, "but, well, we all know how well Ray listens, don't we?"
