Astutekit was a nerd, a quiet little tom cat that was good with being by himself or with his brothers. The shadow in the background juts willing to watch it all happen. But his brain was another story. It was always going, thinking, analyzing and overreacting. It was a problem most days because as a kit he has nothing really to help keep him busy. How he longs for the day he becomes an apprentice and can go out and test some of his many, many theories in the real world.
"What are you staring at?" Nocturnekit asked waving his paw in front of Astutekit's face before turning his head trying to follow the kit's gaze to whatever it was that had probably grabbed his attention. "There's nothing to stare at" the tom concluded, the confusion in his tone clear as he looked back at his den-mate frowning. "And I thought I was stir crazy."
Astutekit flinched back as a paw was waved in his face, a small blush raising to his face as he was caught daydreaming again. Well, not really daydream, so much as analyzing things and stuck in his own head while doing it. Off in the distance, a group of students were practicing, or at least he thought they were. Maybe they were actually playing or...something else? It was hard to say from his place by the nursery. Caught staring, watching, once again overthinking, the little tom-kit sunk in on himself. "So-sorry...." What was he supposed to say to that, he wasn't crazy, hsi brain just overthought all the time.

A shadow had come to loom over Astutekit as his older brother stood over him, fluffy fur bristling and dark amber eyes gleaming. "Ain't nothin wrong with just starin." Passionatekit said, with a slight growl in his throat. The not so little kit had been lazying about in his moss nest, letting Astutekit do his thing until he saw Nocturnekit waving his paw in front of his face. "It ain't hurtin nobody. 'Sides, not much else to do but stare."
Astutekit had practically curled up in to a ball, and only glanced up when he heard his older brother speak. He wasn't the youngest on the litter, just the oddest out of them all. The one that sat back and watched, who had these strange ideas and theories, and wasn't the most social kit either. Just odd. So he was always grateful when his rough-and-tough, grumpy, hotheaded older brother stuck up for him or even let him tag along with him on games. "Passionkit...I.." The tom didn't really know what he was gonna say, just that maybe he should explain what he'd been doing. And well...it did seem like staring. But he was just thinking in all honestly. It'd started with watching the apprentices for a moment, and then the thinking started first about why they had to wait to start training until they were apprentices, and then that spiraled into things they could be learning while as kits. Things like running, scenting, footwork, and then Noctunekit had interrupted his thinking and thought he was staring and..... And now he was over thinking again.

Sagespirit walked over to the four kits thinking to himself how much he truly loved those little rascals. "Hey there guys, what are you four up to? Behaving yourself right?" He couldn't help but grin at this, of course they would get into mischief as any kit would but hopefully they weren't getting into too much trouble. "I hope you guys are behaving or else I'll just have to wait to give these gifts to you when you are playing nicely." Sagespirit couldn't help but to feel pride in these kits even if they weren't related by blood.

Passionatekit quickly looked up the moment his father came through the entrance. “Dad!” He squealed, carefully jumping away from Astutekit but never leaving his brother’s side. “Dad, you missed it! I caught this huge beetle today all by myself! I would have shown it to you guys but it jumped away from me before I could bring it back!”

Sagespirit put his nose to Passionatekit's and gave him a small boop. "I bet it was a big beetle, good job my son." The warrior gave a proud smile any father would give to his loving children. In truth he was usually proud of his sweet children...how could he not? He loved them all dearly.

“It was huge!” Passionatekit exclaimed. “I bet Astutekit would be able to tell what kind of beetle it was. I really wish it hadn’t gotten away from me that way I could have shown him. Hey! Next time you should come with me!” He said to his brother
Astutekit edged away from the other kit, the one that'd called him out for staring and snuck towards his brother and adoptive father. He hoped that Passionpaw would forget about the whole thing and not bring it up to dad or not remember so he wouldn't get mad at the other kit again. Honestly, he was kind of curious about this bug now. "What...wh-what kind of co-colors..." He wanted to ask about it's appearance, what it looked like, did it make any noises, or was it one with horns? maybe it was a dung beetle! The tom was shivering at his side, partially from excitement at the prospect of getting to see the bug again and at having all the attention on him again, even if it was just his dad and brother.

Passionatekit hadn't even glanced towards Astutekit when he wrapped his paw around the little tom and pulled him closer once he felt him shaking by his side. "It was really shiny! And really big, like the size of my paw!" He exclaimed, holding his free paw out towards Astutekit. "Like... dat big! No jokin! And it was green! Like... really, really green. I'm talkin' like the color of the trees green! Maybe a little brighter!"
"That..." Did he spoil his fun and tell him to never touch that beetle again or let his brother learn the hard way? It would be funny, but at the same time Astutekit wasn't cruel. "That soun-sounds like a..a stink-stink bug."

"A stinkbug?" Passionatkit echoed with a tilt of his head. "But it didn' smell or notin... what could be so stinky about it? What makes it stink?" The little tom scratched his chin with his paw, his bottom tooth getting stuck on his upper lip as he thought long and hard about it. "You think it got any friends if its name is stinkbug?"

Sagespirit tried to be serious and not laugh at such a sweet and innocent question. "I think it would have friends. See friends are important and the good kind of friends support one another and help one another. Perhaps see past any disabilities they have or their stink. But I would probably suggest you be careful with stinkbugs. They don't nornally stink on their own unless they feel threatened like a skunk. But good job for catching one." He gave a light purr before turning to his other son. "And good job on knowing it was a stinkbug Astutekit." The warrior gave a lightnose boop to the small kit.

"Yea! Astutekit is the smartest cat I know!" Passionatekit said proudly as he sat near his little brother. "Well... other than you pops, but he's like... super smart! I bet he'll be the smartest warrior in Moonclan when we get older! And I'll be the toughest!"
Poor Astutekit could only blush and sink down at the praise. He'd never been good at getting praise, and Passionatekit was always one for praise for him, and well defending his honor like a good big brother. But still! That didn't mean the little kit was good with it all."Tha-thanks."

"What are you thankin me for, silly." Passionatekit smirked as he ruffled the fur on top of his little brother's head. "It ain't nothin but the truth!"
"I-if you-you're sure...." Astutekit didn't think he was the smartest but if his brother did then it must be kind of true. At somewhat true since the tom didn't know many cats yet. "I'm...I'm not sma-smarter than than dad!" It was a point he wanted to amok sure of and near the end of his sentence he got louder until he basically yelled the dad part. Embarrassed by his outburst, he blushed and sunk back down to a ball at their feet.

"Astutekit you're okay." Soothed his father as his tail lightly brushed up against the kit, "If your uncomfortable with me giving you compliments I won't say them out loud. I do think you are smart though, but the only reason I may know more is because I am old and moldy." Sagespirit gave a mischievous wink to the kits. "Now as I mentioned before I have gifts for you kits...would you like them now or later?" He gave a small laugh at the end of the statement knowing all too well what they would say.
