I had been nearly a moon since Oakstorm had last even seen Tinypaw. He'd come to the SunClan-MoonClan border nearly every day, sometimes waiting around for an hour, others just passing by, but he made it a point to keep checking this place in the hopes of catching a glimpse of her silvery pelt. She never returned, though, at least not when he was there. Their last meeting hadn't gone all that smoothly but the MoonClan tom was not one to give up easily. Watching her suffer like that was gut-wrenching and he wanted nothing more than to curl up next to her and just, well, be there, purring, lulling her to sleep knowing she could let her guard down because he would protect her. Their connection was real. She couldn't even properly deny it when she tried.
Oakstorm had waited until the sun was high in the sky, glaring down at him like an angry parent, before he approached the border today. Most water in MoonClan was frozen over but this stream was still babbling through the gorge like no one told it that it was leaf-bare. Oakstorm wasn't religious, in fact he was very nearly irreligious, but it was hard to ignore proof like that sometimes and it made him question his stance on the whole "Sun God and Moon Goddess" belief system, "Well, Sun God, Selene, if either of you are real, wish me luck."
With that, the MoonClan tom crossed the SunClan border, his paws stinging in the cold water. It was funny that he asked both of them for help. They would never work together, especially not for such traitorous activities. Across the border now, he tasted the air for any scent to follow. Suddenly Oakstorm was buffeted by an unseasonably warm breeze that seemingly came from nowhere. It carried with it an all-too-familiar scent. It couldn't be that easy to find her... could it? He took off in the direction that the wind had indicated. In hindsight, it wouldn't make a whole lot of sense that chasing the breeze would lead him to his goal - he should have gone in the direction the breeze had come from, how else would it have carried the scent? - but he was thinking with his heart and not his head and it was true that Tinypaw's scent was only growing stronger with each step.
[attr="class","box2"]Since that day in the river, Tinypaw had managed to stay far away from MoonClan and the border that they shared with SunClan. She didn't want to see Oakpaw anymore, it was to painful to be near him. Her heart throbbed each time her entered into her mind, and she didn't think that she could bear to lay eyes on him knowing they could never be a couple.
Pushing him away had been cruel and cold, but leading him on with false promises of a future they would never have seemed even harsher. Each time her clan tried to get get near the border, she made up some excuse and would slip away.
Even now the breeze that carried her scent, was leading him deeper and deeping into SunClan's territory [newclass=.box2]margin:0px auto; width:300px; height:425px; background: transparent; overflow:auto; padding:8px;[/newclass] [newclass=.box2::-webkit-scrollbar]width:5px;[/newclass] [newclass=.box2::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb]background: #772929;[/newclass]

Oh, yeah. You know the whole 'don't jinx yourself thing?' Well, apparently, Oakstorm knew absolutely nothing about it.
One minute, the tom was standing, and the next, it was like a literal ton of bricks had bowled him over, long before he ever caught glimpse of the she-cat he was hoping to meet. He didn't even have the chance to see his attacker more than a multicolor blur in the snow, let alone recover, before he found himself being dragged Selene knew where. Wherever it was, it was pulling him away from Tinypaw's scent, far, far deeper into SunClan's territory itself. "If you fancy living for the next few minutes, don't struggle. I can, and will, kill you if you try it, understand? Not to mention I have about ten different poisons, paralytics, and other such really, really uncomfortable herbs soaked onto my claws, so one peep, and it's lights out."
That was the voice that the tom most definitely did not want to hear. It was strangely familiar, the scent of the cat too like Tinypaw's to be mere coincidence. If he managed to get any glimpse at the one pulling him along at all, he'd see the fox-like frame and coloring that accompanied the casually threatening voice that spoke around his scruff. Foxbane. What a coincidence.
Oakstorm was leveled before he so much as saw a glimpse of her auburn fur. The brown-and-white tom was a large cat, but he lacked battle experience, and he was already at a disadvantage for being caught off-guard. His shoulder rammed into the ground, hard, and his head was jostled from side to side as if he were on the receiving end of head-shake kill bite. Thankfully it wasn't forceful enough to break his neck, but he was stunned, stars swimming across his vision, giving Foxbane plenty of time that she probably didn't even need to incapacitate him. The MoonClan Warrior struggled to get to his paws for a moment but couldn't break the steely grip of his captor. His opponent outclassed him.
When his attacker spoke, he mistakenly thought it was Tinypaw, just for a split second. They both were short and to the point. Guarded. But Tinypaw would never attack him like that, nor result to poisons and paralytics to win her battles, that was the cheater's way. Besides, he'd never once given her a reason to distrust him. Oakstorm gave up on trying to break away and instead twisted his head to view his captor. He felt the blood rush from his face. The last cat he wanted to see especially when he was on SunClan's of the border. Foxbane.
He didn't like to judge cats unless he knew them, but Foxbane's reputation was notorious for being absolutely depraved. MoonClan told stories of her wickedness to their kits to make them behave: 'If you don't clean up your mess, Foxbane will get you!' Unlike the Sun God, she was very, very real, and very deadly, "I mean no harm, I'm just... I'm just..." He had crossed the border so impulsively that he hadn't even though of what he would say if he were to get captured. He panicked, "Hunting snakes. I thought I saw an adder and wanted to do SunClan a favor."
Oakstorm was a terrible liar, but at least he was a good listener. His body had gone completely slack; his fluffy white belly was facing the sun. He didn't want to hurt anyone, not that he though the'd land a blow on Foxbane anyways.

"Mhmm. You sure you weren't here for Tinypaw?" She wasn't an idiot. Foxbane had been there during the flood. She'd seen how they interacted. "Well, I hope you like fire."
That statement was vague, not that Foxbane seemed to mind it as she continued to drag him deeper into the territory. "So, tell me again, what's this about snakes?" The Senator asked, her voice sarcastically innocent. The trees were beginning to thin, and Tinypaw's scent was all but gone now, though the smells of other cats in the clan was growing by the second. So many trails, that Oakstorm had to know she was taking him to someone, though who exactly was anyone's guess.
Dang. Usually cats at least pretended to believe him. That's right. Direct. He was beginning to recognize that as a SunClan trait. There certainly was no beating around the bush with these cultists, "No, it's not what you think," Why was he still trying to lie? Well, that wasn't exactly a lie, aside from a few brief meetings and a little snuggling, nothing had really happened. He was actively trying to change that but facts were facts, "We're just friends. Uh, yes... snakes..."
Oakstorm was struggling to make up a story put on the spot like that and sort of trailed off into nothingness. The scent of other cats was growing stronger and he knew that he was being taken to probably camp. He really, really couldn't go there. His intrusion had more political implications than he ever cared to understand. Relations between MoonClan and SunClan had always been rocky and, following the camp battle they had a couple moons back, it did not bode well for him to be roaming their territory. He wasn't just some apprentice anymore, couldn't explain it away due to inexperience, "I have no ill will toward SunClan, I'm sure your God can see that." Play the religious card, maybe that will help, "You really don't need to drag me all the way to camp..."
"That's good. You'll need all the camaraderie and understanding you can get from the Sun God." Foxbane mewed cryptically as she dragged him relentlessly down into the maze. It was twists and turns, heading down, and up, down, left, down, around, until they broke away at the bottom, having moved far too quickly to easily have traced the path. "If you think you're good enough for my daughter, then you'll have to prove it."
And, all at once, their privacy was broken as she pulled him into camp. Heads turned in an instant, and cats sniffed the air, claws unsheathing as they spotted Foxbane with the MoonClan tom. She dropped him then, blocking his way to the entrance with dangerous sort of smile, something that said he was probably not going to like what came next, as her voice rose to the members of SunClan. In a way, it was like she'd never stopped being Priestess, because her voice caught the wind like it was meant to be, filling the gorge with it's sound. "Everyone welcome SunClan's newest Initiate to SunClan!"
Initiation. Ah, yes, Foxbane had a record of that, forcing cats into it. She'd done it with Glowstar, with Burningstar, and now, it seemed she'd done it for Tinypaw, and the tom she loved.

Littlestar had been laying with skipstep near the High Priestess den high above the rest of the camp, when the song scent of MoonClan reached her nose from the tunnels. She stood turning to face the camp's entrance just in time to see Foxbane throwing the tom into their midst and making the announcement. What was she up to this time? She gave Foxbane a stern look, but she hadn't really broken any rules. Any cat could attempt initiation, she had just done her duty in bringing the cat back their camp.
"Haha..." Oakstorm forced a nervous laugh out, not really sure how to respond to Foxbane, and instead tried to memorize the maze. Unfortunately, his back was to the ground and the lighting was poor. All he ended up memorizing was a dip in the ground just before he entered the main camp... his shoulders were still smarting from being forced around that corner. The minute Foxbane released him he rolled back onto his feet but stayed slightly crouched in a submission position. He felt SunClan's eyes burn into his pelt, surely judging him, although for what he was't going to try and guess. It made his heart race. None of them were Tinypaw, thankfully, although he wasn't sure he'd be able to pick her from the growing crowd if she didn't want to be seen.
He turned his hazel eyes back to Foxbane, trying to figure out just what she was planning to do with him, when she cleared her voice and named him as an Initiate. Oakstorm wasn't extremely familiar with what that meant but he knew it was a rank in SunClan's hierarchy. He had no intention of joining them, though, how did Foxbane even get that idea? She had literally drug him to camp like a prisoner yet here she was adding him to their ranks?
"Wait, what?" He laughed again nervously, "You can't be serious, just punish me or whatever and let me go home, I told you I hold no ill will toward SunClan. This is all a giant misunderstanding."

[attr="class","box2"]Tinypaw's nose wiggled, as the unmistakeable scent of Oakstorm reached her nose. Why in the world would his scent be this far into SunClan's land? Surely he wasn't mouse-brained enough to venture this far serching for her... was he? It wouldn't be the first time he had crossed the border for her, the wounds on her cheeks and legs had scabbed over, and were starting to heal. If he was really that dumb, then perhaps she should leave him to his fate. but it was the scent that reached her next that made the hair along her spine raise in alarm: Foxbane...
What had her mother done this time? Wasting no time, she began rushing towards the scent her heart beating heavily in her chest. If he mother had him in her grasp he wouldn't stand a chance. He was to nice... He wouldn't even put up a fight against her.
She arrived behind Foxbane just in time to see her toss Oakstorm into the clearing just outside the entrance to the tunnels. Ducking down behind one of the stones she watched, wanting to know just what it was that her mother had in mind. What crime would she accuse him of? But what came next.... well that was far crueler than simply executing him, but a death sentence all that same.
A death sentence she knew was coming, that she couldn't speak of. It was forbidden to talk about happened to those who failed initiation. She wanted to scream and cry. To throw her self at Foxbane and demand his release, but what would that acomplish? The sentence had been given. Even Foxbane couldn't release him from it now
She trotted out into the clearing standing over him, dissapointment clear in her eyes "You have no idea what you have gotten yourself into this time..." she turned, tail and ears drooped, she couldn't bare the sight of him groveling for mercy from her mother. Didn't he see that he was playing right into her paws? That all he was doing was digger the ditch he had been thrown into deeper and deeper [newclass=.box2]margin:0px auto; width:300px; height:425px; background: transparent; overflow:auto; padding:8px;[/newclass] [newclass=.box2::-webkit-scrollbar]width:5px;[/newclass] [newclass=.box2::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb]background: #772929;[/newclass]
Oakstorm's eyes softened when they settled on Tinypaw. Anyone close enough would have seen his overall demeanor change. His visibly relaxed, his fur laying flat, his breathing becoming more even. He was still low to the ground but then again he always crouched down to speak with the much smaller she-cat. Despite the situation, he couldn't help but give her a smile, "It's nice to see you, Tinypaw. You seem well..." He said in a very friendly, light-hearted tone, "... I hate to put this on you right now but could you please talk to your lovely mother? I never agreed to any of this. Like I said, this must be some kind of misunderstanding."
It was probably best not to act so familiar around her, but he was an open book. He did not say anything that was suspicious. Cats could have friends in other Clans, right? Sure, it was highly uncommon for SunClan and MoonClan cats to get along enough to consider one another friends, but not impossible. Oakstorm really had no clue what he had gotten himself into. The true implications of this situation were lost on him. One thing was for certain, though: He still felt butterflies in his stomach when he watched Tinypaw approach. It didn't matter that she had that stern, no nonsense look on her face, or that she spoke to him in a borderline condescending tone. She was beautiful and truly a breath of fresh air in all of this.

[attr="class","box2"]Tinypaw raised her paw automatically, giving Oakstorm a cuff on the ear before turning to Foxbane. She knew the rules as well as anyone, but if she could get him about before he took on his initiate name... then maybe just maybe there was some hope.
She stood between Foxbane and Oakstorm, trying to figure out what to say next. She thought about spinning it in the direction of MoonClan being angry about them taking one of their own, but that wouldn't do. Foxbane love chaos... The prosepect of starting a war would only confirm that she had made the right choice.
Then she thought about pleading for mercy, but that... well that wouldn't go over very well with Foxbane either. She inwardly flinched at the mere thought of it, knowing that showing weakness only meant that she would be punished further.
So instead she played a different angle "Isn't Littlestar the one who is supposed to be bringing back initiates? This cat obviously doesn't want to be here, and its not as if he committed a crime" she hoped anyway... What she didn't know is that he had been trespassing when he had been captured "You shouldn't be going into other clans and dragging them back here on a whim"
"I found him already on the territory. He was helping us 'hunt snakes', it seems." Though Foxbane's tone was calm, she raised a knowing brow at the she-cat. The Senator knew he was there for her daughter. It was far too apparent, especially when he spoke to Tinypaw. "Since that was his goal, I figured he could accomplish it far better as one of our own."
Maybe it was cryptic, but she felt the subtext was fairly clear. Oakstorm was here to meet Tinypaw, and clearly cared about her. Foxbane had given him a way to accomplish that, rather than killing him outright for trespassing. All he needed to do was survive their initiation trial. She turned her gaze up to Littlestar, offering a mischievous sort of smirk that suggested she knew only too well what she was doing. "Now, I suggest we take him to Littlestar, so he can introduce himself, however he chooses to be called." There was no getting out of this, the Senator wouldn't let him. He could either go along with it, or get himself killed, right here in camp.
Oakstorm saw Tinypaw shoot him a glare and he shrugged... which wasn't such a good idea since his shoulder was still sore from being dragged throughout the territory. He winced then turned his gaze back to Foxbane. There was no way that this she-cat brought him here just because he claimed to be hunting snakes. She may as well have just said she wanted Tinypaw and Oakstorm to be together. But why? SunClan and MoonClan pairings were unheard of, like yin and yang. The way she treated and spoke to him didn't give off good vibes either. She didn't seem to approve of him, but she had brought him here.
The large brown-and-white tom had never had any intentions of joining SunClan, though. He wasn't in tune with his own Goddess, let alone any other deity. MoonClan tolerated him because Maplestar was his sister and the mood was light under her leadership: There was no way he would get the same luxury here in SunClan. They would eat him for lunch and he would probably let them so long as Tinypaw was spared.
"Yes, I'd like to meet with Littlestar." He said, rising to his full height, which was about a head above Foxbane. Littlestar's reputation was better than the previous leader at least. She seemed to be the reasonable type, "I'm sure she will make sense of this and I'll be out of everyone's fur in no time..."

Littlestar watched the unfolding events from her perch, before decending down to meet with Foxbane and the cat that she had brought back to their camp. She had caught the former High Priestess knowing smile, whatever she was up to this couldn't be good. However, it was her job to enforce the SunClan code that had been passed down to her. She stood before the cat looking more like Tinypaw than even her mother did. Tinypaw had been named after her afterall, even though her own fur was far longer and the designs on her pelt more elaborate "You trespassed onto our holy land to hunt snakes" she stated simply, leaving it open for the tom before her a chance to explain himself
Tinypaw lowered her gaze, Foxbane knew. The smile was all that she needed to confirm it, there was no way that she was going to allow him to walk away from this unscathed. With each passing moment she seemed to be shutting down, withdrawing deep within herself to protect her heart. Her body language becoming more submissive, knowing all to well the consequences of crossing her mother. She somehow seemed smaller, more timid.
Foxbane was a tall cat already, slim and angular which gave her her name, though her thick fur filled her out a touch. The fact that Oakstorm topped her in height made him tall for a tom, though even that feat didn't seem to mean much to the former Priestess. The gaze she leveled on him was firm and steady all the same. After all, she had just dragged him all the way to SunClan, and if she had wanted, she very likely could have killed him, given that she was even able to tackle him in the first place.
Her head tilted in acknowledgement as Littlestar found her way to them, and her tail twitched, resting on Tinypaw's shoulders in a way that seemed oddly reassuring. Which, while less unusual since she'd stepped down from her position as leader, was still not as frequent as it probably should be.
"Exactly." This wasn't going as he had thought it was. Littlestar seemed cold as ice. It was a different sort of intimidation than Foxbane. The auburn she-cat had a chaotic energy, he could never guess what she was thinking or what she would do next, and he doubted that any other cat could, either. Littlestar was different insofar as she seemed to keep up appearances. She was regal, refined. She didn't really look like she belonged in SunClan with her long silvery pelt but there was no doubt her Clan respected her, "I was only looking out for both of our Clans. Nothing more. I was unsuccessful, of course..."
He saw Foxbane's tail-tip touch Tinypaw's shoulder and also observed the grim expression on his crush's face. Oakstorm suddenly had the feeling that he may be coming at this all wrong. This was serious... like, life-or-death serious. No one openly said it but he wasn't blind. He gulped and bowed his head to Littlestar, something he knew Cypressblaze would have his head for if she saw him do anything half as heretical, "I apologize for any offense I may have caused." His voice was a bit more steady now, more serious.

"Then it appears that you have a choice to make" Littlestar kept her face and voice void of emotion as she spoke, this was his choice and his choice alone. "Section eight of SunClan's code. SunClan territory is sacred. All outsiders who do not wish to join must be chased away or killed" she spoke the words smoothly, surely not the first time that she had given this exact choice to others before him "This being said you have three paths ahead of you. You can choose to run, but..." he tail swooped indicating the warriors that surrounded him "my warriors shall give chase. Even if you manage to make it to the border, you are sure to have a few scars to remember your time here" not to mention in order to escape he would have to figure out how to make it through the maze of tunnels that protected their camp "I'm feeling rather generous, so I would give you a five minute head start" it was rather harsh, but if he truly wished to escape, there was a little glimmer of hopre
"Second, I could kill you here and now" she raised her paw, claws glinting in the bright light that seemed to fill every crevice of their camp "a clean death without pain" he wouldn't be the first who had come to SunClan seeking death, and even though few choose this option it was there. She lowered her paw, eyes narrowing in on his
"Thirdly, you can choose to cut your ties with MoonClan and become an initiate. Initiates are cats that are seeking to become part of SunClan. You will be given a new name, and study with our Senators and Janus to learn about our ways. You will train, similarly to an apprentice. Anyone that attempts to flee or betray SunClan after becoming an initiate will be marked for death" she stopped giving her words time to sink in "However, becoming an initiate gives you the opportunity to undergo initiation. During initiation the Sun God will peer into your heart and see what lies within, all you have to do is believe in him, and you will be allowed to join our ranks as a full warrior of SunClan"
Oakstorm paled as the options were laid out before him. There really was no easy way out of this one: All of them sucked. He knew for sure that he stood no chance of navigating his way out of that maze on his own, five minute headstart or not, especially if Foxbane decided to participate in the hunt. He was familiar with walking in shadows but he was not nearly nimble enough to make a swift exit even if he knew the way by heart. He ruled that option out first. That left him with just two: join or be killed where he stood. The MoonClan tom wanted to ask if she was serious but bit his tongue because he knew damn well that she was. It seemed SunClan cats were just as crazy as he'd been warned all his life. He again searched Tinypaw's face for some sort of hint or indication of something, anything, but found no direction.
He was shaking now. Who would have thought that today would change his life forever? He'd been haunting the SunClan border for weeks now and not had any trouble, yet the minute he takes one step over he was detected in a matter of minutes. SunClan was strong. Too strong. Sure, he could Initiate and run, but that meant he would never, ever be with Tinypaw. Plus, doing that would put MoonClan in a very delicate position, and he didn't want to make Maplestar's life harder just because he was selfish. The only option that guaranteed survival and would not greatly effect the status quo was accepting the "invitation" to join.
"Well, twist my tail." He said with another nervous laugh. Oakstorm was a very calm cat by nature and faced stressful situations with a grin; There was nothing to gain in panicking, "You really only gave me one option, Littlestar. I guess this means I'll initiate..." It couldn't be too hard, right?
Littlestar's lips turned upwards in a slight smirk, already knowing his choice before he had made it. However, she had given him the choices that were available to him plainly and as fairly as she had been able to. SunClan's code was strict, and even though their were loopholes and choices to be made the rules were clear "You made your choice when you crossed the border" he voice was cold. Truly his real choices ended the moment he had been captured by Foxstar and dragged back to their camp. His fate had been sealed. Join or die. It was that simple "Now you may choose your new initiate name, to signify cutting your ties with moonclan and previous life your new name must contain no trace of your old name. From this moment on, your singular focus should be on learning our ways and serving the Sun God"
----- He was as good as dead... Tinypaw pushed away her mother's tail, turning and disappearing into the tunnels in a blurred silver streak. She barely managed to maintain her composure in front of the clan, each step she took slowly lowering her resolve to hold back the tears that threatened to spill onto her cheeks. Sure it sounded like he had made the right choice, but the result would be the same. He would never find faith in a God that he couldn't see for himself. He had made that clear enough. He was a MoonClan warrior, and still didn't even believe in the moon goddess. How was she supposed to change the very core of his belief system? She said a silent prayer as she ran 'please... if you can hear me, show him that you are real. Guide him on the right path, and keep him safe. Im begging you... You are powerful enough to burn whole clans to the ground, please just keep him safe'
