Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
"That's right, sorry I guess I never told you yesterday." He felt a slight warmth in his ears, he had been raised better than that but the surprise meeting had his attention elsewhere at the time. "I have made my decision, but before this goes any farther I have one condition. You said before you have killed and I want to make it clear that whatever favor you ask of me, I will not be involved in the death of another, nor will I be the cause of it." He would accept her offer only if she agreed with this, he would not kill or help to kill anyone.
His chest rose and fell as he tried to calm his beating heart, he was not afraid, no, he was excited and while he knew he should walk away from this offer he could not bring himself to do so. "You have a deal." He answered, lifting his head higher, his eyes locking onto hers.
"Very good" she grinned. "Now, we must train somewhere other than here. Someone is bound to find us here. Come with me." She turned away and let the shadows engulf her.
The small tom took a breath and followed Flamingsoul into the shadows, he had been so torn on what to do about this situation before deciding to accept the she-cats offer. He wanted to learn all he could and while healing and herbs were his passion, he was still curious to know of things aside from that and if she could teach him something no other cat could or would even be willing to then he knew he wouldn't be able to pass up the opportunity. "Where did you learn the things you will teach me?" He called to her as he pushed his short legs to catch up.
"I've learned much in my travels but most of my battling techniques are from Primal Instinct" she explained as she walked, her chin lifted and her tail trailed behind her.
The medicine cat apprentice was now keeping a steady pace just behind the she-cat, his eyes never swaying from her form as they continued on. "Hmm, I heard Primal Instinct is full of a bunch of cruel cats, how true is that? I've never come across them so I would hate to go off of rumors, but if they are that way I dont think I'd want to cross their path to find out." Curious as ever he was letting his mind take over as it begged to know more about the unknown.
"Oh, they are ruthless, believe me." She turned to face the tom and parted her fur in various spots to reveal hideous scars. "These are the scars I received from Primal Instinct." Then she pointed to the two scars on the bridge of her nose, "And so is this one. I actually received this one on my first day. I was a little older than you. I had just gotten my warrior name when I decided to leave and join them. I started out as their prisoner. They tortured me every day. I had very little food and water and Scenescence enjoyed clawing me up. It was her favorite pass time." Flamingsoul continued to walk. "Of course, though, I stayed. Primal Instinct has this initiation process that begins with every new member that wasn't born of the league start out as a prisoner. Then they become well guarded once they start to prove their worth and their loyalty. After that, they must pass a test to ensure they will always stay loyal to Primal Instinct and that test is to kill a cat. Which I have. Several, actually. But do not be alarmed. I have left that life behind me. I don't kill unless I feel its necessary. However, my 'necessary' nay be a tad different than everyone else's" She explained, a wicked smile on her face. "I'm lucky to have survived my escape from the league. Most cats do not make it out of the territory once there are suspicions. I was caught by an assassin of Primal Instinct during my escape. I was lucky I got away from her. I had to lie low for a while to ensure that the league weren't looking for me. Though, now that I am deputy of Nightclan, I often fear that they will be after me soon for being disloyal."
Lambpaw listened carefully, suppressing the shiver that threatened to coarse through him at the sight of her scars and the story of Primal Instinct, it was definitely a place he did not want to know personally. "It sounds like you had a rough time for awhile, are you scared that they will come and hurt those in Nightclan because of you? Do they know of your past, nightclan I mean?" He was so curious to know more, this she-cat had such an intriguing life even if it was scary and torturous, to live on the run and have to hide just to live and then when things finally start to look up, having the constant worry of being found again just because of your past. "Why did you leave Moonclan?" He asked before before she had time to answer his first question, he wanted to know it all.
She flinched at his last question and felt the sting of his first. She wasn't necessarily afraid of the cats harming her, she feared for her family. That is why she had taken a kit ransom so that he would agree to her terms - being allowed to wander on Moonclan territory. Though, she didn't use the territory for wandering. She used it to keep an eye on her family. If the league knew she had cats in Moonclan that she cared about, those would be the first cats they would go after., not Flamingsoul. She tried to act like she was doing it for pure evil but deep down, she was doing it to protect her family. Especially her sister, Pinesong. Pinesong wasn't just her sister. She was her best friend. They had always had a close bond since they were kits and Flamingsoul knew that if the league knew she cared that much about Pinesong, they would end her. On top of that, Pinesong was expecting kits, her nieces and nephews. If Primal Instinct were to get to her, she would lose everything and would never forgive herself.
Flamingsoul didn't know exactly how to answer the young apprentice's question. She didn't want to appear weak to him. Weakness was what the league cats want. If word got around to her going soft, things could end very badly for her. "I just never felt I belonged there" She answered at last though she knew that wasn't the whole story. Flashbacks of her childhood came flooding in. She remembered how horrible the other apprentices treated her. She had always felt that one day she would be good enough to show Moonclan that they were wrong about her. That she wasn't weak. She began practicing harder than any other apprentice to prove to them that she was strong. "I guess I always thought they looked down on me. They didn't believe I had potential. I am a decedent of the great Moonstar. My parents always thought one of their kits would become leader of Moonclan. THey would tell me and my littermates that. And oh how I wanted to prove them right. However, I wanted to be the best of the best. The Moonclan members always rumored that I had darkness in my heart and that if I were to be leader, there would be destruction. Most of the apprentices didn't want to train with me and teased me." She closed her eyes, trying to keep herself steady. "So that was when I met Havoc of Primal Instinct. He convinced me that if I joined the League, they could make me powerful and then Moonclan would bow down to me. At first, I thought that would help me become the leader I wanted to be. But instead, it made me a m-" She wanted to say monster but she couldn't say anything more. It was too painful. Besides, why was she even telling an apprentice her whole life story?
She shook her head and cleared her throat. "The point is, Don't let anyone tell you that you can't. Your a medicine cat. No one expects you to know how to defend yourself and that is what I am going to teach you." She paused for a moment. "I have decided what I want you to do for me in exchange for training you...I want you to keep me updated on my family. Silvershine, my mother; Leopardblaze, my father; Pinesong, my sister; and Timberfrost, my brother. I also want you to keep an eye on Pinesong's kits and tell me when she has them. I want to know everything so I can ensure their safety. If anything...and I mean anything goes wrong, I want you to come find me." She turned to face him. "Do we have a deal?"
As Flamingsoul began her story, young Lambpaw listened, his complete attention focused on taking in each word, every little change of tone and even the slightest of change in her body language; her own reactions to her words told a story, gave depth to it and him a deeper understanding that he wouldnt have otherwise. She really went through a lot in her life, though it seemed wrong she did it for what seemed to be all the right reasons, he couldn't hold that against her considering where he was at the moment.
The mention of her family caused him to stop walking, it made sense that she would have kin in the clan seeing as she was born of Moonclan blood, what shocked him though was that she carried the blood of Moonstar in her veins.
"We have a deal, I will watch over them and provide updates. You have my word." He didn't even have to give it thought, he knew he would do everything in his power to keep her kin safe, especially Pinesong and her unborn kits. "She is doing well by the way, your sister I mean, her pregnancy is on track." He knew about each queen and kit in the clan, their health was important to him and even before he became medicine cat apprentice would visit the nursery each day.
For a brief moment, her gaze softened for the first time in a long time. It was as if Lambpaw was staring at a completely different she-cat. Her heart seemed to swell at the thought of her becoming an aunt. Unfortunately, she could never be near the kits. If they became close to her, that could put them in danger. Her gaze hardened once more, just as quickly as it had softened. "Good" she mewed, turning back and continuing to walk. She was about to become leader of Nightclan. She couldn't become soft, now.
She crossed the border into the rogue lands. "Don't worry. No one is going to harm you out here." She often traveled to the rogue lands. She was quite known out there.
"Rogue land, I've always wondered what it was like out here, I suppose you will be why I stay safe then?" It made sense she would have been here many times, but how far would the cats he go even with her present. He followed her over the border, his paws although still moving, growing heavy with hesitation, his curiosity once again overpowering his common sense.
"Of course. If they try to harm you, they will end up choking on their own blood" she replied bluntly. "Most of them know that." She finally halted in a clearing and turned to face the apprentice. "Are you ready?"
Lambpaw stopped behind the she-cat in the clearing, his eyes taking in his surrounding and ears listening for any noise in the general area until her voice drew his attention back. "I was ready the moment I agreed to do this, whats first?" It was the truth, he had thought enough about what he was doing to know he was indeed ready to begin his training with the Nightclan deputy. He locked his eyes on Flamingsoul preparing for a surprise attack from her at any moment, he didn't know about fighting, but given her background it wouldn't surprise him if she went straight into it.
"What I want to teach you first, is how to defend yourself. You'll need to know that first before you learn how to attack. So, I want you to block my attacks." She instructed as she swung a sheathed paw, aiming for Lambpaw's muzzle.
He didn't have time to nod or agree before she made her first move, her paw came straight for him, instead of jumping back he ducked down, but not quick enough as he felt a light sting on his ear, she was fast... or was he slow. "I was too slow." It came out as a grunt and mostly directed at himself.
"That was good, though. You didnt even see it coming but you trusted your instincts." She praised. He was better than her own apprentice. Fierypaw never even tried, it was quite frustrating. However, Lambpaw had great reflexes and she could see that with a little more training, he would be a medicine cat no clan had ever seen. "Again" she mewed as she swung another paw.
He was better prepared this time, keeping his eyes sharp and his body ready to move when she did. He didn't duck this time, instead he blocked her swipe with his own paw and jumped back so he stood a tail length away and out of reach. "How was that? Was it smart to block your attack or should I have just dodged it?" He wanted every detail she could offer, any little bit of criticism.
She was impressed. "Actually, that was rather good! Now, I want you to attack me. Just jump at me and I will show you a cool way to take your opponent by surprise."
