Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Welcome to Part Two of MoonClan's medicine cat tryouts!
If you are here, that means you've passed the application process. Congratulations!
Now the real fun begins. We will be measuring your activity both in the clan and within this thread, so I look forward to seeing how things shape up.
BRIEF RUNDOWN –
Silverstar and Nightwish have struggled to make an appropriate decision that both benefits themselves and their clan; with an important rank in their clan continuing to remain vacant, they're desperate to make the right decision while giving their clan what they need. Thus, a very important event is to take place: Traveling to the Sacred Stone (an outcropping of rock where it's believed the lunar deity is closest to the veil between the mortal world and the spirit realm) and communing with their goddess.
To ensure things are played fairly, we will be assessing your character's dynamic with Silverstar and Nightwish, as well as the clan's goddess, who I will be temporarily playing.
"Good morning, candidates." The new deputy's voice rang out in the clearing outside of camp, her ice blue eyes assessing the three felines that assembled a few paces in front of her. "You've done well thus far. Congratulations. However, your duty as medicine cat," her gaze ran over the young form of Lambpaw, "and medicine cat apprentice," she returned her gaze to all three, "is not only to the art of healing greencough and mending torn claws, but to our clan as a spiritual guide. You are the bridge for our goddess; as such, there are responsibilities placed upon you that you cannot quail under." She lifted her chin. "It will be challenging, you will be broken down, and you will be remade. If you should come out of your meeting with Her unscathed, consider yourself blessed. A meeting with the One is a rare and beautiful gift, so do not fret should you not come in contact; we simply ask that if you do not, you return to camp and await further instruction."
She rolled her shoulders. "But, to get the formalities out of the way, we have a long trek ahead of us to the northern quadrant of our land, so I'd be happy to get to know every one of you. If you'd follow me, we can get started."
Standing, she faced the mountains off in the distance that marked the land of the Mountain Clans and began their journey. The Sacred Stone was within MoonClan territory, that much every member of the clan of night knew, but very few had dared to venture close; it held a power, some said, that was difficult to face, let alone greet pleasantly.
Among the three was a pale gray tom with oddly serpentine green eyes, that seemed to bore into the soul of whomever met his gaze. He listened, and waited patiently as Nightwish spoke, happy to see that she was falling into her new roll as deputy with relative ease. "Shouldn't we eat before we leave, or maybe some travelling herbs at the very least. It's a long journey to make on an empty stomach" he asked gently. His tone was even and calm as he looked to Nightwish then to Lambpaw. He was more concerned about the other cat's well-being than his own.
Nightwish froze and turned to look at the candidate, tilting her ebony furred head in curiosity at his inquiry. In all fairness, she hadn't considered that the young apprentice would be more susceptible to the rumblies than her peers; another learning curve, not only as a deputy, but as a new mother. She had never considered herself a particularly maternal type and this slip up undoubtedly showed that. With her ears flattening just a bit, out of mere embarrassment rather than upset, she smiled sheepishly at the young feline and pet her head lightly with the tip of her tail. "It isn't as far as it may sound; I know you can do it, little one. We'll break halfway through for a meal," she glanced at Tealeaves, reassurance in her blue gaze, "we'll make it there before the moon is high in the sky."
Lambpaw stood as tall as he could though being the smallest of the cats gathered he still looked puny beside them, his legs were much shorter than others his age. The tom lifted his brownish grey eyes to look at the deputy as she spoke, a tingling sensation running through his tightly curled pelt as he let each word soak in. He had always been ready and willing to learn all he could and that did not change when he learned of herbs and their abilities, as well as what it meant to be a medicine cat.
"I can make it there, don't worry." His voice was steady and he gave the others a smile.
"Nightwish, has there ever been a cat in Moonclan who has turned away from the goddess?" The question has sounded okay in his mind, but once the words came out he realized that perhaps it wasn't, he kept himself steady though, still curious of the answer. He had always believed in the goddess and her divine power and the thought of someone denying that baffled him, he knew the other clans were different but to think one of his own clanmates would not believe was startling.
The black she-cat hesitated, halting in her steps for only a moment before continuing, looking like a rocking horse caught in the wind. She frowned, keeping her gaze away from the curious apprentice. The question, albeit unknown to the young one with an innocent mind, brought on memories she would have rather forgotten, but maintained her composure so as to offer the young one the best advice she could.
"I've heard of one. A tom who was born of a family whose lineage traced back to the beginning of our Clan. He defied our goddess and left us to form his own revolt against spirituality." She glanced at him. "Never doubt your goddess, Lambpaw. It's our faith in her and her love for us that continues to lead us on our path." She smiled hesitantly. "But don't fear; even if your faith is shaken, she'll be there to help you."
Lambpaw followed beside the deputy, his gave up toward the sky as she spoke. "That's terrible, it must be an awful feeling to lose faith." He paused for a moment, taking a breath before continuing. "I dont think I could ever lose faith in her, she is part of me, part of all of us. I wouldnt be whole without her." He lowered his eyes, not looking at the others as he tried to keep pace with them.
Tealeaves nodded in agreement to the end of Nightwish's statement. His gaze flicking to Lambpaw, something about his eagerness and curiosity was endearing in a way that made him feel ever so protective over the young tom. "Good, She'll admire your faith in her, after all what goddess doesn't like to be worshipped by her subjects?" The tom smirked ever so slightly at the comment but, wasn't looking to cause and mischief, just lighten the mood.

A small, dusty grey she-cat slithered up next to the other the cats. Her piercing yellow gaze trained on Nightwise and Silverstar. Even though the she-cat was at least of warrior age, her frame suggested otherwise. In fact, she was seemingly the same height as Lambpaw. However, this didn't seem to bother her, a glint of fierceness burned in her eyes. A thirst for her chance at life and becoming part of the clan was Despicablebloom's driving force. It had made her to do the things she had done. At the end of the day, she wanted her place in the clan. A place she could call her own. The long furred she-cat had spent many moons in MoonClan's elder's den or the nursery. This was due to her poor health. The clan had decided it was best to keep the ambitious she-cat out of harm's way, so she had never completed her training. But who said she couldn't apply for being a medicine cat or... at the very least, an apprentice to one?
Unfortunately, her days locked away from the rest of the clan and been the downfall of the she-cat. Perhaps the slight glint of determination in her eyes tonight, was a slight warning of this. However, Despicablebloom was cunning, she was keeping her sane hat on today, just for the sake of passing the tryouts. After all, she had become clever at hiding her true emotions.
The thought of communicating with the luna deity intrigued the she-cat. Perhaps a little too much. Oh, the things she could learn... With a slight flick of her tail, she nodded delicately at the other cats. Her gaze turning to Lambpaw. His question interested her. It was valid. Perhaps a little too valid for Despicablebloom. "And how will she communicate with us once we reach her?" Inquired Despicablebloom, her voice soft, like smooth honey.

"We commune through the stone. You touch your nose to the surface of it and close your eyes to lapse into a dream-like state." Nightwish glanced back at the she-cat, the aura flowing off of her causing her own curiosities to rise within her. She was very different from the innocence Lambpaw exuded; she couldn't quite tell if it was positive or negative.

( just curious but when will these tryouts end? )
Despicablebloom paused in consideration of Nightwish's reply. The dark she-cat interested her. But this was true for a lot of cats Despicablebloom met. She was fascinated by how cats interacted and how they chose their life based on what they thought was right. She did not know Nightwish well but thought it best to be friendly. From her study of the subject, she knew it was important to be friendly to those who had power. Plus, she had no qualms with the she-cat... yet.
Tilting her to the side like kit seeing the world for the first time, she smiled lightly. "Sounds very magical." Pausing, she regarded Nightwish before continuing on in her honey-like tone. "So, how are you finding your new position as deputy?"

Tealeaves glanced at the small gray she-cat out of the corner of his eyes. He repressed the urge to shudder, and kept this fur flat as though nothing was bothering him but, in truth something felt... ominous about her. The vibes she was giving off made him wary but, he would never show it. He chose not to speak this time, deciding to let Nightwish and Despicablebloom have their conversation without interruption.
The dark cream apprentice listened carefully to the exchange between the she-cats, he had been wondering the same thing and was glad that Despicablebloom had asked. As they continued through the territory Lambpaw could feel the ache in his short legs from keeping beside the rest as they walked, determined not to slow anyone down he moved to the back of the group, making sure though that he didn't fall too far behind.
Silverstar followed close behind silently, but looked on to the travel party, a shimmer of excitement and pride in his eyes. Although the candidates were but a small group, there was definite promise. When the time comes, it would be the the Moon Goddess's decision who shall become the next medicine cat and their apprentice of MoonClan. Reminiscing, he remembered when the Moon led him to the Sacred Stone and deemed him worthy of being the next leader not too long ago
As they continued on, Silverstar took note of how the candidates interacted with Nightwish as well as how his deputy behaved. A smile slowly spread across his face. Nightwish impressed him. Watching her now reminded him of his time as deputy.

She had to be careful, Despicablebloom knew this. But right now, she wanted information. Not just on what they were about to do but the others in the group too. After all, she might be working with one of them in the future. That was if she managed to keep sane during the whole tryout. So far she didn't know them very well as she had mostly kept to herself and had not talked to many cats outside of the elders den.
She loved Tealeave's name. At least whoever named the tom had the dignity to find him a good name. Her parents on the otherpaw, had decided on "Despicable." Gee thanks. At least she knew deep down it might be slightly correct but how did they know when they named her? Her head spinning at her random thoughts, she focussed back onto reality. It was always thin line between lies and the real world, for the she-cat.
Turning to glance at Lambpaw, she noticed he was dropping back in the group. She too was starting to feel slightly out of breath from all this walking but like the small tom, she too was determined not to show it. She dropped back slightly so that she was walking next to him. "Lambpaw is it?" she asked.

Dispicableblooms voice broke Lambpaws thoughts, he turned and looked at the she-cat with a small smile. "Mmhm, and your Dispicablebloom?" He asked in return after confirming his own identity. She had a unique name to say the least, though it was rather odd he did not think bad of it. "You stayed in the elders den for some time, did you not?" He had noticed her around camp, but had never seen her venture out.

Dispicablebloom clicked her tongue, her yellow eyes drifting onto the path ahead of them. It curled onwards, like a snake, seemingly never-ending. Though, all things Dispicablebloom knew of came to an end. Life was like a road, it had an end and it had a beginning. However, all roads were different. Some zig-zagged, others continued onwards, completely straight. It was her fear that her path was short and straight.
Lambpaw's reply reinforced her anger. It reminded her what her life could be if she just sat, alone. Forever. Of course, he knew who she was. That sick cat that stayed in the elders den... yeah, that was all she was. But how could she blame the small tom? He was young. It would not be right to do so. Instead, she smiled warmly at him, though her eyes showed no warmth, just hollow sockets. "It has become my home, yes." She dipped her head. "A place I would like to escape from."
A shutter pulsed the toms body, his short curled pelt begging to lift but he forced it to remain flat. He could see the warmth in her smile, but her eyes betrayed her. "I've no doubt you will find yourself where you want to be, I know I am young but I believe everything happens for a reason, each hardship we go through tests and shapes up for what is to come." He kept his eyes on her as he spoke, the warmth in his gaze true.
Noticing that the other two had fallen behind the rest of them Tealeaves slowed so that he fell in stride with the other two applicants. "Everything alright?" he asked, without even the slightest affliction in his voice. However he was mildly concerned and it may have shown slightly in his eyes. He knew they should of eaten first, as he internally chided himself for not being more persistent on the matter.
Lambpaw broke his gaze away from Dispicablebloom and looked at Tealeaves with a smile. "I'm alright, just working with what I have." He laughed looking down as his stubby legs. "Are you okay? You seem worried." He glanced at the other tom.
Unease was prickling at her pelt and covering her skin in gooseflesh the longer the she-cat seemed to carry on a facade that was quickly cracking at the edges. It must be her first time to wear a mask, she thought to herself with a frown of deep thought, keeping her gaze fixed on the path ahead, I'm thankful for that in a way. She hasn't been given time to perfect it. Still, she felt a surge of maternal protection toward the apprentice traipsing along with the she-cat; he was far too naive to be left alone with the she-cat. Whether she was a candidate or not, she was still wary. Stopping, she turned back to the trio and tilted her head, noticing Silverstar's gaze on her own pelt. She tossed him a reassuring look and returned her attention to the squad holding up the rear.
"Come on, slow pokes, let's get a move on. Just a little bit farther and then we can break for lunch." She smiled softly at Lambpaw. "Why don't you come and join me up at the front? I'll slow down so we can chat."
