It pleased the grey furred she-cat that everyone seemed to be kind and... caring. If there had been a cat here with a huge ego, perhaps her anger would have gotten the better of her. Tealeaves and Lambpaw seemed genuine which she was thankful for. Genuine cats were sometimes the easiest cats to trick but sometimes the hardest. She would have to see. Though it did surprise her how switched on Lambpaw seemed to be. He seemed to be very wise already for his age.
The she-cat flicked her tail at Tealeaves as he approached, as if to say welcome to the cool kid's group. His question of concern was kind and welcoming, and she glanced Lambpaw and nodded in agreement. "Our paws are small." She chuckled.
Lambpaw looked at the deputy with round eyes as she invited him to join her, he knew he had much to learn but could never help feeling that others thought less of him because of his younger age. The small tom flicked his tail to the others in farewell as he left their sides and caught up to Nightwish, dipping his head to Silverstar as he passed him. He had a great deal of respect not only for his leader but the newly appointed deputy as well, and although taken aback was grateful for the chance to speak with her. "What would you like to talk about?"

Despicablebloom flicked her tail at Lambpaw in farewell. She wished she had gotten slightly more time to talk to the small apprentice but she couldn't blame Nightiwsh for taking him away from her. She was probably worried Despicablebloom would cough on him. It was typical for most cats. Her breathing was becoming more hoarse, hopefully they're resting location would not be too far off. But she was determined not to show her pain. Instead, she turned her attention to Tealeaves. Her piercing yellow eyes regarding him for a minute before she spoke again. "So, what made you decide you wanted to become a Medicine Cat?" She asked, calmly.
Nightwish purred at the look on the tom’s face, her heart swelling. Noticing that the she-cat behind them had focused her attentions on Tealeaves, certain the tom could handle himself, she focused her sole attention on the path ahead of her and the apprentice beside her. “What made you want to take this path?” She hummed, curious herself. Lambpaw was so young, could he really already have his life mapped out? When she was his age, she had wanted nothing to do with a premade plan. Perhaps it was different, though, if he was the one to set that path, rather than someone else. There were other questions she wanted to ask him — Who is your mother? Where is she? What does she think about this path? — but decided against it. This was, at the end of the day, a business proposal. She wanted to get familiar with her potential team members, but she wanted them to understand the dual dynamic as well. She glanced back at Silverstar; he had been a big part of her life in the recent past and her path that led her here. She wondered how he felt about their applicants, about Lambpaw. She halted the thoughts that followed that train before they could get too far, focusing on the conversation at hand.
When they reached the midway point, only a few paces ahead, she stopped and turned to face him fully.
Lambpaws eyes focused on the ground as he thought about Nightwishs question, it was an important one that he honestly already knew the answer to. As the deputy stopped he also halted his paws, looking up at her with glowing brown/grey eyes. "Every path is unique to itself, this one though has always pulled at me though, more so than the others. I want to be someone who defies the odds, heal what others would say is un-healable." There was so much more to his choice than what he had said, but it all floated around his mind like a whirlwind. Lambpaw was an orphan, having no biological kin left in the clan his clanmates had become his family and he wanted more than anything to see them all survive and to be the one to help them do it when all other hope was lost.

(After much thought and consideration, I have decided to pull out of the tryouts. Thank you for the opportunity. I apologize for the short notice but I have decided this role is not for me).
Silverstar was surprised at the apprentice's choice of words. It wasnt everyday that someone so young could have such ambition and dedication. Most kits grow up wanting to become the Moon's best warrior, deputy, or leader. But for someone to be as a sound mind was...different. It was definitely not what he was expecting
Lambpaw stood shuffling his paws as he stood before the others, silence enveloping around them only to be broken as his stomach began to growl rather loudly. The sudden sound sent a wave of heat through the apprentices body, he lowered his head in embarrassment. "May we eat?" He asked with a small smile.
During the young tom's speech, the black she-cat found herself flummoxed by the influx of warmth that spread throughout her being. Though she had never been a mother before her unexpected pregnancy thanks to a certain Primal Instinct tom getting under her skin oh so long ago, and the feeling was still new to her, Lambpaw's easy acceptance of her presence and position and his strong faith in their goddess filled her with a sense of pride not unlike a motherly fondness. She tilted her head and purred, blue eyes glittering. Everything he said was exactly what she'd hoped to hear and more. Glancing at the silver and black spotted tom and recognizing the same approving glow, she felt another rise of pride and pleasure in the apprentice and nodded her head at his query. "Of course, love." She lifted her chin and parted her jaws, tasting the breeze on her tongue. "This area is bountiful with prey. We'll make lunch quick and continue on our way."

As promised, they managed to reach the Sacred Stone before moonhigh. A shiver of pleasure trickled along her spine when she managed to fulfill one of her own promises; Nightwish stood by the ideal of remaining truthful, no matter how painful said truth may be. It was one of the times she'd had to stand by her vow and it had filled her with anxiety, her gaze near constantly fixed on the starry skies. Upon reaching the ritual area where, beyond the barrier, the luminescent stone sat, however, she found herself finally relaxing and raising her chin.
"This is a very special place, as I'm sure you're all well aware. I ask that when you enter, you're respectful of our goddess and do not insult her with your words or thoughts. She will know. Respect the sanctity of this land and you will be offered her guidance. Betray her and you will unleash her wrath." She flicked her tail, taking a step back and motioning to the entrance to the arena. "After you." Her gaze was fixed upon Tealeaves.
It's been some time, Moon Goddess, he thought to himself as he stepped into the vicinity of the Sacred Stone's influence, Please accept the choices we've chosen. Dipping his head, he continued forward "Just as Nightwish said, remain respectful and nothing bad will come of your actions. Although she may be a forgiving god, do not mistake that as weakness." he added as he looked between the applicants.
Lambpaw looked at the entrance to the arena that was home to the sacred stone, his eyes glowing with wonder and awe, a tingling sensation rippled through his curled pelt and a shiver ran down his spine as he took in both Nighteish and Silverstars words. The young tom had never felt as he did in that moment, a strong power pulling at him, willing him to take another step, it was almost overwhelming but not quite. The apprentice pulled his gaze from the arena entrance and let it move from deputy to leader, they believed in him and that gave him courage and strength. "So we will go one at a time?"
[ it's only taken me five thousand years to get back to this thread, i feel like an awful skeleton ]
Nightwish nodded her head once in confirmation. "Lambpaw," she smiled, her voice soft, "you first, dear."
An unseen energy seemed to emanate from the stone, reverberating around the clearing, silent whispers beckoning the apprentice forward. All that was needed was an opening in the apprentice's mental armor; the entity beyond the veil waited, patiently, with her tail curled around her paws and her eyes warm with love.
Lamppaw nodded to Nightwish and took a few steps forward until he was standing only a mouse length away from it, his eyes took in its beauty and with a deep breath he continued on through the veil. His eyes grew wide as he gazed around, did he make it, was this where the goddess would appear before him? A smile pulled the corners of his mouth, his nerves had faded as he began to imagine what his goddess would be like, what she would look like. "Hello?"
