Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Foxsnarl didn't speak until they were leaving the meadow, ensuring his senses were sharp enough to detect any predators nearby. As they left, he slacked his pace a little. "I'm sorry we didn't get to hunt today," he mewed to Sunpaw, "but we can do it tomorrow. Once we get back to camp, you can have the rest of the day off."
"Can we at least practice some fighting moves? Or we can go over the warrior code." She blinked apologetically. "I'm sorry. I just really want to learn something..."
Sunpaw narrowed her eyes in thought for a moment before answering. "Well, you be honest, no one really had told me the warrior code yet. Brick told me you rarely kill other cats, but other than that..." She seemed very embarrassed to be ignorant off such a vital part of Clan life.
That was important for her to know; he was glad she brought it up. "That's right. The only time a clan cat will kill is when they have to - if the enemy won't hesitate to kill you, then you have every right to do the same to them. But when you fight another clan, you don't try to take their lives. Now, that doesn't mean you can't fight them - that's another rule of the warrior code. Defend your clan with your life, and put no cat's life above it."
"Especially the leader," he confirmed. "Froststar is a good cat, but remember she has more than one life. It's an honor for her to give those in service of her clan."
"More than one... life?" Poor Sunpaw shook her head in incomprehension. "But how.... I'm sorry. I've been to embarrassed to ask much about Clan tradition. I really don't want to be sent away.... but what do you mean more than one life?"
Foxsnarl was surprised. She didn't know? "When a leader goes to receive their new name and get accepted by our ancestors, StarClan gives them nine lives instead of one," he explained. "I don't really know how the ceremony works - they aren't allowed to talk about it afterward - but I've seen leaders die and come back to life, so I know it's real."
Sunpaw sat, shocked. "I went with her for the ceremony. I'd thought I'd heard something like that said, but I assumed I'd misheard. It just sounded so fantastical..." She shook her head to clear it. "Brick never told me Clan cats have special powers. Does StarClan gift anyone else, or just leaders?"
Foxsnarl nodded. "It does sound crazy, even if it is true," he agreed with a little laugh. "Only leaders get extra lives. Sometimes they'll share prophecies with medicine cats, though."
She nodded and was quiet for a minute, taking in all the new information. Disbelief tempted her, but she couldn't believe Foxsnarl would lie to her. "Alright. Thank you. Can you teach me some fighting moves now?" She asked.
"A little farther on, then yes," Foxsnarl replied, casting a glance down her way and wondering at her thoughts.

After they had walked for a few more minutes, he turned to face his apprentice again. "Now, the most important part of fighting is style. You'll find you're better at some parts of fighting - dodging or attacking, defending, hitting hard or hitting often, that sort of thing - but you need to practice everything. If you're fast and so is your opponent, you want to try something else to trip them up," he instructed. "How do you think you would stop a fast opponent?"
She tipped her head thoughtfully. "I think I would remain defensive until I saw an opening, then go for a really well prepared and powerful strike." Sunpaw responded.
"That could work," he agreed, approving. There was no one right way to deal with it, but that sounded like a logical response. "In that case, you'll need to work on your defense, so we'll do that first. You're small, so it would be better for you to dodge attacks than try and absorb, deflect, or redirect them."
"Let's try a few. I'm going to attack you, and dodge." He would start slow, and then speed up his attacks. Foxsnarl backed up a few paces, shook out his short ginger fur, then reached out and swiped at her.
Having had very little fighting experience, she almost didn't dodge the first strike, despite its slowness. Sunpaw's posture did change somewhat to better suit what she was doing, however, and her dodges began to improve. Despite this, her movements retained a jerky and sheepish air that betrayed her inexperience.
Foxsnarl kept his movements slow, but his jaw twitched, and he was clearly a little bit frustrated with her sloppiness. "Alright, stop," he ordered finally, setting down his paws. "What's wrong? You move like a kit first day out of the nursery."
Sunpaw's ears flicked back, hurt sparking in her blue eyes. "I'm really trying, I promise." She mewed. "I've just never done anything like this before."
