Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Her last morning started like any other. Kasdeya awoke slowly in the gray light of dawn, stretching extensively before she rolled out of her nest. The Immortal Council member had plans at sunrise to go for a patrol with Goldenpaw, whom she had long held a special, familial affection for. The wiry, long-limbed she-cat slipped from her den, her one orange, one blue eyes blinking up at the lazily drifting clouds. She had time to grab a vole and scarf down her breakfast before she saw the apprentice approach.
The rare smile she gave the younger she-cat was still small, but grew fractionally every time they were together. "Good morning," she said lightly, her cream-colored tail draping over her front paws as she spoke. "Are you ready to patrol?"

“Y—Yeah.” Goldenpaw yawned, having only just finished her morning mouse. Her mentor took most of her energy with her extensive training, but the apprentice was growing into a fine warrior. One who was tired most of the time, but she rarely showed it.
Her smile was full and warm as she stood. Where once frail, she was now stronger. Able to fully stand on her once broken leg and rapidly approaching Kasdeya in height. Never one to hold back her affection, she pressed herself to Kasdeya’s side, throat rumbling with a purr.
Kasdeya rested her chin on top of Goldenpaw’s head, returning the purr lightly. She had seen the former youngling’s progress, she had watched her with pride as she grew and blossomed. The deputy knew she was living vicariously through the success of the once-broken kit she had rescued, but it helped her to see her success.
“Let’s head out. The eastern border hasn’t been checked for a day or two, so we’ll start there. One of the warriors mentioned an old fox scent, but it should be cleared out by now.” Kasdeya stood, stretching deeply before moving towards the exit.

Goldenpaw didn’t move immediately, soaking in the small touches of affection she got from her big sister figure. Every one was worth savoring to a touch starved apprentice.
“Okay!” Goldenpaw quickly followed her towards the exit.
Their passage went quickly and in the companionable silence that Kasdeya was used to. She was glad that Goldenpaw didn't always expect her to speak- she wasn't the type, for one, and these days she never knew how to voice what she was really feeling. Her face was calm and composed, until they began to approach the border. The fox scent was back, and not stale like she expected. She came to a stop, turning to Goldenpaw.
"The fox is back. I've been trained to handle it, and you don't have to help, but if you want to head back you can. We may not even run into it." Kasdeya wasn't worried about herself, but she didn't want any harm to befall the she-cat she had come to care so much about.

Goldenpaw didn't mind, she could talk for hours if she wanted to. But it seemed Kasdeya was slowly coming around, at least from the time Goldenpaw met her. She scent of fox violated her nose and her eyes widened.
She took a step back, but shook her head, "I'll stay. Two is better than one, after all." Even with the scent, Goldenpaw couldn't find herself worrying about it too much. Spoiled by the monotony, she had a hard time believing it would happen. And if it did, she wanted to stay and help, even if she wasn't trained on how to deal with foxes yet.
Kasdeya would that Goldenpaw left, but she had decided long ago never to force the she-cat into doing anything, letting her forge her own path instead of the one Kasdeya wanted her to take. "Alright." The deputy nodded, letting her footsteps fall more quietly as they resumed walking the border.
Eventually the scent seemed to fade, and the tension left Kasdeya's shoulders. She turned to say something once more to her favorite apprentice when the wind shifted, and the fox scent hit hard from the left. A lean red muzzle protruded from the bush, followed by gleaming red-brown eyes. The wily she-cat came to a sharp halt, then moved to put Goldenpaw behind her, keeping her movements slow and controlled. "If it strikes, you have to run," Kasdeya hissed under her breath. With all luck, it wouldn't. Foxes rarely attacked a cat who stood its ground. "Do you understand me?"

It was a blind decision, and she didn't know how much she would regret it in due time, but it was the one she wanted to travel. Her nerves eased as the walked, the scent fading before suddenly pulling up again. Her heart dropped the moment she saw those dark eyes staring at them. She complied with Kasdeya's wish, staying behind her but still puffing up her pelt.
"Kas..." Goldenpaw felt the adrenaline dissipate as quickly as it appeared, and a sudden hollow sadness filled her. Maybe, Kas should run. She was practically the deputy, and Golden was just a runaway brought in. Her lives... meant more than her one. But she couldn't find it in herself to say those things, or to step ahead and bravely take that strike. To throw herself into that fire. Why? She would, she knew she would, for anyone, but especially Kasdeya. For the only parental figure she had. For the first cat to show her kindness. So why?
“Don’t worry about me, Goldenpaw. I can handle myself.” Despite the tense situation, she turned slightly to give the she-cat a small smile. The creature moved, and Kasdeya snapped back into her fighting posture, her mismatched eyes trained fully on the fox as it shuffled out into the clearing.
Mouse dung. It was clearly sick, with wild eyes and a faint trace of foam at the mouth. That made it far less predictable. A few seconds that stretched into eternity dragged by, and the fox snapped, lunging forward. Kasdeya knocked aside its muzzle with the ease that came from years of fighting. “Goldenpaw, you need to run.” She swiped aside another bite. “Now!”

"K-Kas... I know... but... you should..." Goldenpaw looked down briefly at her paws, unable to return her smile with another. Only eyes that begged her not to go. Not to do this. To run. With her. Goldenpaw jumped back as the fox jumped forward, like she was dodging despite being no where close to it. Her heart pounded, mind raced a million miles a second. If she left, and the fox overpowered Kasdeya, then she... would die. She stepped to the side, slowly backing up but also making it so if the fox lunged for her, it wouldn't slam into Kasdeya.
Kasdeya parried a few more blows- she made it look like light work- before dealing her own damage, tearing a solid chunk from the fox’s right shoulder. It wasn’t until she glanced behind her that she saw that Goldenpaw hadn’t left. “GO!” She told her, and it did, in truth, look like a fight she could handle. “At least-“ she blocked another lunge and slashed her claws across one of its eyes- “move to the bushes so I don’t hurt you.”

She ducked down to stay out of the way, feeling the wind blow against her ears. Glancing down to her paws again, her claws flexed into the ground before retracting. There was nothing she could do.
"O-Okay." Goldenpaw finally said, getting up and turning on heavy legs. Waiting for a chance when the fox was distracted with Kasdeya, the gold apprentice bolted towards the tree line. She looked over her shoulder, only to see the fox right on her heels. It reached out to grab onto her tail, and she could feel it's snapping jaws on her fur. But she swerved out of the way, but it was too sudden for the flat footed apprentice and she skidded into a bush, loosing her balance and falling only feet away from salvation.
Kasdeya felt panic twist her gut into a knot, and she kicked off the tight-packed dirt to intercept the sick predator. Without hesitation she threw herself between Goldenpaw and the looming canines of the fox, letting out a strangled yelp as the teeth made contact. There was no time to react defensively, to do anything other than take the blow. She threw her weight back and away, rearing up to deal twin blows across the creature’s eyes, rendering it blind.
It finally stumbled back and away, spitting as it swung its head back and forth. Without its vision, the fox lost its bravado and slunk back across the border. Kasdeya stood facing away from Goldenpaw, breathing heavily for a moment. She seemed fine, until she turned around.
Crimson blood stained the thick white fur of her chest, plastering it down and tinting the air with the scent of iron. It pumped steadily out of the gash that ran diagonal across her chest and neck, and had opened the major artery below her chin. She blinked once, twice, then crumpled to the ground, eyes fluttering shut.

"Kas?" Goldenpaw rolled out of the bush, only to see Kasdeya now lying in a pool of her own blood, "KASDEYA!" The apprentice sprinted to the white she-cat's side, ignoring the spurs and splinters that burrowed into her fur. Pressing her paws against where her artery was, she tried to stop it but it only bubbled out more. She didn't stop, trying to magically make the wounds go away by pressing them together but it only ended in her getting covered in blood.
"Wait. Please, wait. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. I didn't leave, didn't run. Just tripped and fell and now... Kas, please wake up! Please. PLEASE DON'T LEAVE ME. You can't. I need you. What about living in Dayclan? What about finding that peace? Please. Don't go." Her tearful cries would fall on deaf ears, and she couldn't stop shaking, "I'm sorry. Please smile softly at me again. Please keep teaching me how to fight. Just... don't go." Goldenpaw rested her forehead on Kasdeya's, shutting her eyes and only able to pray that this was a dream. That she would wake up back in the apprentice's den. With warmth, with rest, with her heart intact.
Kasdeya coughed violently, blood spilling over her lips and onto the ground. There was so much she wanted to say to Goldenpaw, so much that she couldn’t get past her last wheezing breaths. The wound was fatal, sucking away at both of her lives at a speed that alarmed her. So she settled for what she could say.
“You were my peace,” the words were slightly gargled, but still audible. “A bit of peace among the pain. I love you.” Words she had never uttered before, escaping in the vulnerability of her final moments. She pressed her nose to Goldenpaw’s cheek, shaking with the effort, before she laid her head back down, going still.
She had never been one for elaborate speeches anyway.

"I-I love you too, Kas." Her heart lit at the words, but only twisted in pain more as she buried her face into the neck, the gash. She didn't care. Those happy times in Dayclan; talking over breakfast, fighting in the apple orchard, curling up in her nest whenever Goldenpaw had a nightmare. All fleeting, never to be done again. Kasdeya would never see her warrior ceremony, never meet her future mate or kits or... anyone. Not until they met again, much later.
All she could do was cry, cry for what felt like days, weeks, moons, when it was truly only minutes. And she cried until nothing came out but gross sobs and pleas. Pleas no one answered. Finally, she sat up, covered in enough blood to where she was barely golden anymore. Finally, her breaths staggered until they slowed, and she was able to stand. Grabbing onto Kasdeya's scruff, she started dragging her closer to the heart of Dayclan. Their home, their peace. She wasn't gonna let the fox win.
"SOMEONE! ANYONE! PLEASE HELP!" Goldenpaw cried, her voice hoarse. Even as she made her way back, every noise made her jump, that fox not letting her be.
(っゝω・)っ~☆ I'm here to reply! Sorry for the delay ☆ )
Glowstar turned around, but the patrol was gone, she had run too far after the mouse and had lost the thing when it ran into the thick fields of wheat. She turned around tasting the air only to find the metallic scent of blood. Picking across the field the scent became thick as smoke.
"SOMEONE! ANYONE! PLEASE HELP!"
With a killers instinct she ran towards the cries and swerved into Goldenpaw's visions. Her emerald gaze identified Kasdeya almost immediately, but the blood was not blind from her sight. Kasdeya wasn't moving, but Goldenpaw was covered in blood. Glowstar quickly grabbed Goldenpaw by the scruff pulling her away from Kasdeya and quickly dragged her only a foot away, but into some taller foliage. As far as she knew, the patrol could be far away and if they were under some sort of attack, fact was, Goldenpaw as alive and Kasdeya... Kasdeya didn't seem to be alive any longer. But survival mode had taken over, she couldn't focus on that, let loose any emotions, not yet, not until she ensured they were safe, "What happened?" She demanded, something she few times ever did as a leader was demand for anything.
Glowstar quickly pushed Goldenpaw's fur back trying to figure out where the blood was coming from, "Where are you hurt?" She asked, her voice remarkably still, but looking around she could only picture this was an attack done by an outsider... Hopefully not SunClan.

(i invited faith (hey speak of the angel) to this thread so we could rp out Goldenpaw and Glowstar interacting after Kasdeya's death, but I can make another thread for the dream if you'd like)
Goldenpaw almost felt relief when Glowstar appeared. She was sort of an enigma, but now she was probably the closest thing Goldenpaw had to a mother figure in this world. That brief emotion was nice, but it was suddenly being swept away as Glowstar pulled her away from Kasdeya. Panic set in fast like a flood, and she struggled against the leader, though it was all in vain. All at once, all those emotions she managed to suppress had made their way back to the surface. Unable to stop shaking, or fighting, or crying out, "NO! Wait, please! Kas, I'm sorry!"
It felt like forever, but it was only a few seconds. She couldn't process suddenly being let go, and then being checked over for injuries. No, she was a mess, any attempts at pulling herself back together would only unravel her more. So she cried, harder than she ever had in her life. For grief, pain, anger, frustration, self-hatred. It was an ugly cry, but it was all she could do.
"Border... Fox... I didn't... listen... and I tripped and AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA." She fell down at Glowstar's paws, the strength to stand gone. She wanted her back. She wanted her back. It... should have been her. She should be dead. She wanted to be dead. She dug her claws into her own ears.
