"Oh, you don't know Troutstripe? Makes sense, you only see Juniper, what, every few moons?" Reedshadow plucked a stray hair from his neck, casual as ever, "I haven't been in Waterclan long enough to know of any happenings in newleaf, so whether he really did wander i don't know, but it was better to assume you knew. I trust you after all. As for Troutstripe, he's an ex member of my gang who went missing some time ago. Finally found him in Waterclan of all places. He's always had a few screws loose, has trouble remembering stuff, y'know. So he disappeared the day before yesterday, brought back safe and sound that night. It's not ground breaking or remotely interesting, so I can see why he never brought it up with you."
Reedshadow shrugged and stood up, walking away from the pair, "That wasn't a bad trick. Rogue worthy, even. Also, the half moon is tonight. So try coming up with a more convincing lie next time. If these's nothing else, I should get going. Troutstripe needs these hops after all."

Graythorn didn't know what to make of what the stranger had said. It confused him greatly. He knew he had made up that story about Troutstripe himself but did he really come up with a name of a real cat in WaterClan? But there was something he didn't like about this Reedshadow, a few somethings really. One was his smugness and another was his glibness. He seemed to have an answer for everything.
"Yes, it's been a long time since you should have been gone from here," he growled. "Now be off with you." Graythorn stood in front of Gentlebreeze preventing her way to the stranger.

"Sure. Sure." Funk swiped a leaf off the ground, throwing it onto his head as he walked out of the grove, "Don't go colluding too much with the enemy now, Thornbreath. I'd hate to lop that pretty little head right off your shoulders should Summerclan cross Waterclan. Or my gang." He laughed, skipping off without a care in the world. He'd give anything to turn around and do just what he said. How fun it would be to keep a medicine cat on the verge of death. Someone to go tit for tat with him. Well, sorta. Their knowledge was limited, and his wasn't. And he wasn't that kind of rogue. So, he would let those two sort out what was truth and what was lies.

Gentlebreeze started to move forward but Graythorn stopped her. "Let him go," he hissed. Then he called out to the retreating rogue, "You can try but I doubt you'd be successful. Just get stay of our land and don't come back." He wasn't like most medicine cats. All he ever wanted to be was a warrior, a great one. That dream was almost shattered when Dreamchaser choose him to be her apprentice. But he had trained in secret learning the ways of a warrior along with those of a medicine cat. And now he could match just about any warrior attack for attack.

"Ah, a threat. You don't get to do that often, huh?" Funk shouted back. He was more familiar with herbs than fighting, but he couldn't imagine loosing to the likes of him, "For intruding on a good time, you should be punished. But I really don't like maiming others in front of a beautiful lady. So I'll let you go. I'll come back one day, teach you the true meaning of that name." Quieter, but not quiet enough to where Greythorn and Gentlebreeze wouldn't hear. He felt a little bad for her, suddenly being bossed around by a shrimp like him, they must be close.

"I will see him off our land," Gentlebreeze meowed and left before Graythorn could stop her. "And don't worry about me. I can take care of myself. I was doing that long before you were born."
Graythorn stood where he was with his jaw dropped for a few seconds. He had never seen this side of his mother before and was confounded as to what to say or what action to take. In the end he decided to let her go. He didn't think Reedshadow would harm her or he would have done so before he found them. He had been on the brink of chasing down this rogue himself after the insults he gave. Perhaps this is better anyway. "If you're not back soon, I'll send a patrol out to look for you."
"He's acting as if he's the parent and not me," she sighed when she caught up with Reedshadow. "I made you a promise to help you and I will do just that. Let's get those hops and I'll carry some to the border for you."

"Your son, then? He's a snappy one... Thank you." Funk relaxed when Gentlebreeze approached him, as if the interaction with Greythorn had never happened, "Sorry 'bout the threats. I wasn't serious. I just hated seeing him walk all over you." Of course, if Greythorn had followed them, he would have kept his promise. And his attitude had rubbed Funk the wrong way. Still, that was in the past now, and even if he was outed as a liar, he still wanted to keep his charm up.
Post by Whitemuzzle on Aug 13, 2019 18:36:03 GMT -5
"You weren't serious?" Gentlebreeze asked wryly. "I think you were. You don't seem to me to be a cat who jokes about fighting. As for him being ... what did you say ... snappy? I'd call it grumpy. He got that from his father." Her mind went back to Darkfang and how cantankerous he was with everyone except her. She saw different side to him brought out by the love they shared. She had hoped Graythorn would find love someday too but that hope was shattered when he became a medicine cat. She didn't want him to go through life without happiness.

"You know me better than I, then? I'm a lover, not a fighter." His glanced back at her, his tone was jokey but it didn't quite reach his eyes. It was true, he would have preferred to talk things out, but Funk wasn't afraid of trying to rile up someone. Then again, he wouldn't have responded kindly to a rogue hitting on his mom either, so they were even for now.
"Yeah, grumpy works too." His bed must be awful if he keeps waking up in a foul mood. Funk was a little surprised he hadn't keeled over from stress yet. He briefly wondered about this father, but he held himself back somehow.

"I find that hard to believe," the gray tabby responded lightheartedly. There was a teasing glint in her eyes. "From what I've heard about rogues, they'd rather fight and cause trouble than to take time to love. But then again what I've heard were probably fanciful nursery tales from queens and elders. You know, extremely exaggerated ones told to frighten kits into behaving." Never having those stories directed at her personally while growing up, she heard plenty told to her brother, Dustfeather. And she recited a few to her own kits when they misbehaved.
She stopped walking when she reached her pile of hops and set down on the ground a large oak leaf she brought for the task at hand. "But don't get me wrong," she added not wanting Reedshadow to think she thought he was a terrible cat. "I have a feeling that you're a little of both, a lover and a fighter."

“I can’t deny that. Most are just angry and only know how to soothe that pain with violence. I was more of a... loner-with-an-attitude-who-doesn’t-like-it-when-kids-disrespect-their-momma.” He laughed. He was surprised how much Greythorn’s attitude got under his skin. Maybe he was a knight at heart, or really wanted to beat him up. Who knows.
When they got to the pile, he flicked the leaf off his head and started shoveling hops onto it. “Fine, I’m like 80 love 20 fight. That work?”
Post by Whitemuzzle on Aug 21, 2019 18:28:54 GMT -5
"Sounds good to me," Gentlebreeze replied with a soft laugh. She scooped up the hops into her leaf and folded up the sides to keep them from spilling out. The air had started to move a little now giving some respite to the heat. She enjoyed the relief as her fur ruffled slightly in the small breeze. She glanced over at Reedshadow and watched him work with his leaf, recalling his comment about respecting one's parents. Too bad he's not in our clan, she thought surprising herself. She quickly looked away and busied herself with the small pouch she made.

Funk's smile was faint, casting a side glance to Gentlebreee. He still had it. Though he was glad he didn't have to live here all the time, he'd probably be fighting with Greythorn everyday. And for now, he didn't have to. Ah, how things would change. But for now, he was content, wind ruffling the short hairs on his neck as he picked up the leaf with his hops in it, pinching it so none would fall out. "You ready?" He picked his head up, tilting it a bit before correcting it before any of his precious hops fell out.

Giving her head a quick nod, Gentlebreeze started walking toward the nearest non-clan shared border which was to the east. "There's a path at the base of the mountain that skirts SpringClan's border," she meowed. "We use it whenever we have to travel to the Moon Creek. From there you should be able to find your way back to WaterClan easily." She knew she had to accompany Reedshadow to the border because it was her duty as a warrior to see off any strangers on their territory. But for some reason she had a sad heart. Pondering this she realized to her own relief it wasn't because she was in love with him. Thankfully she was glad that wasn't the case. She had seen so many cats wind up heart broken because of forbidden relationships. As she thought more, she came to the conclusion that she enjoyed Reedshadow as a friend, a wild and reckless friend, one who was seemingly her polar opposite. She glanced over at him briefly as they walked and smiled.
"Meeting you has been quite interesting," she meowed through her leaf package.

Funk followed along, not really able to say he felt the same. Sometimes it took a little sugar to help the medicine go down, and Funk never mind sprinkling some in so he could get what he wanted. And for today it was some hops, a good chunk of information on Summerclan, and learning of a mother son duo with their own problems. His own heart leapt, he'd only been here for a short time but he was ready to move on. Get these back to his gardens and plant these. Hooking up with clan cats were on the table, but he would never stick around. So this was best for the both of them.
"Agreed. Summerclan is a lot more fascinating than I realized and I thank you for showing me that."

"Maybe if WaterClan isn't to your liking someday down the road, you might consider joining us then," she meowed not realizing how that might sound until after she said it. Gentlebreeze sincerely hoped Reedshadow wouldn't take that as a romantic invitation. "You seem like a strong warrior and we always welcome those who come to us openly and honestly." She swished her tail back and forth twice betraying her anxiety. Fox dung! she thought. Maybe I should just keep my big mouth shut. She kept her eyes down on the ground as they crossed through the wild flower meadow. That border can't come soon enough!

His whiskers twitched at that and a smirk played his lips, mischief twinkling in his eyes as she betrayed herself. How funny! Even after all that, he was still invited back with a definitely not romantic invitation. "Oh. I'll have to think about it. Just so I can see my little dove again." Winking a bit and holding in a laugh, he knew it wasn't romantic. But hey, if this was the last time he was gonna see Gentlebreeze, least he could do was leave with a tease. Whapping a flower bud with the end of his tail, he kept pace, occasionally looking to her to see if she would raise her head again.

"Little dove?!" Gentlebreeze repeated Reedshadow's comment incredulously. She looked up again at him and smiled, understanding that he was only playing with her and that he hadn't taken what she said the wrong way. But two can play at this game, she thought. "You're such a flirt! You'd have all the available she cats padding after you for sure if you came to stay." She enjoyed the teasing between the two of them and realized she'd miss it when he left.

That was how it was, huh? So few cats would play this little game with him, would try and hit the ball right back at him. He almost wished the border wouldn't come, just so he could continue this volley. But that wasn't gonna happen. So he could only smile and strike back with all he had.
"I would. All the girls could chase me, but I only have eyes for those that won't." He winked. What a curse, truly. It always came back to bite him, and he had no idea how true that would be in the near future.

Gentlebreeze stifled an amused laugh, her eyes registering merriment however. Reedshadow sure was fast with his words. "Ah, I finally ran into a true 'witty kitty'!" she teased. "But if what you said would happen, I am afraid you'd be sorely disappointed in the outcome, at least with one cat I know." She was already a senior warrior. What's next? The gray tabby knew the answer without even thinking about it.
She came to a stop and looked up and down a long line of bushes then set her leaf wrap on the ground. "Well, this is it. I can go no farther. You can carry this bundle between your chin and chest so you won't have to make two trips."
