(sorry, not sorry cleaver is an enabler)
The bottom of the mountain was hot, summer was here and the clan named after it were soon to be thriving. Funk's paws stung even walking through the grass. His throat was parched, brown fur too far hot for his liking. He found slivers of shade that he gravitated to. It didn't take a genius to figure out he had stumbled upon a hops plant, but this genius had. Taking a quick look around to see if he would get interrupted, he climbed up the tall plant.

(Welcome! I haven't seen you for a long time!)
Gentlebreeze walked quietly near the base of the mountain as she was on her back back to the camp. From her mouth dangled two mice, all she was able to catch in this heat. But she wasn't one to complain, at least not too much, because it could be Leafbare when prey was much harder to find. As she rounded a bend, she saw a quick flash of brown fur but was unable to discern what she saw. Perhaps it was some prey, a squirrel maybe, but more than likely it was one of her clanmates. The air current wasn't cooperating with her either since it was blowing lightly from her back. She decide to proceed with caution anyway.

(MUZZ! Hi, how are you?! It's great to see you again!)
"Ugh, even this stupid plant is too hot." It wasn't an overly tall plant, it wasn't a difficult harvest. But Funk was a bit grumpy and needed to make this trip worth it. Only a tail or two off the ground, he reached over to pluck the herbs when he paused. Swearing he saw something out of the corner of his eye, he glanced around. The whole area reeked of Summerclan, so there was no way to he could tell who it was or where they were coming from. Even if he wasn't in the middle of Summerclan, his throat was too scorched to smell anything anyway. Hops scattered underneath him as he knocked them off and tried to keep an eye out at the same time.

(It's great to see you too! =^.^=)
A large plant up ahead was waving awkwardly while those around it weren't even moving. She knew instantly where the owner of the brown fur was and also knew it was a cat upon hearing it's meow but she couldn't make out what was said. Slowly she crept forward, always finding cover, until she could see the cat in the plant. That's no SummerClan cat, she realized as she watched the tom. But why did his climb that plant? After burying her catch under the bush she was at, Gentlebreeze came out and stood in the open. "Who are you and what are you doing on SummerClan territory?" she asked.

( <3 <3 <3 )
Funk stood awkwardly on the branch, finally satisfied with how much he had when Gentlebreeze appeared. He let out a huff, but whether it was from frustration or relief was a mystery. Hopping down somewhat clumsily, he began sweeping the hops together.
"Hey, I don't want to be here as much as you don't want me here. Probably more. But there're things we all must deal with in life." he was a little grumpy and didn't mind taking a small bit of it out on whoever was around, "You have to deal with being in a clan and I have to deal with every brainless cat there is. Which is most. I need these for my own good more than you ever will. Mix some hops, some catmint, some wildflower." As much as it started with an angry rant, he found himself stating off whatever medicine recipe came to mind as he tried to get them all together, completely ignoring the she-cat.

Gentlebreeze didn't know what to think of this brash intruder, at least not until he had started to mention some herbs. "Oh, so you're a medicine cat?" she asked. Medicine cats were given special privileges among the clans. Perhaps Graythorn had told him he was allowed to gather herbs here the last time he saw him at a medicine cat meeting. "Do you need some help gathering them up?"

...
WHAT?!
Did medicine cats get some special privilege or something? When did they enact that? Why didn't anyone tell him? His informants were getting a bad pill later.
A little luck goes a long way, and he smiled apologetically at the she-cat. "Sorry. I should have mentioned that earlier. That sure would have helped." He laughed awkwardly, attempting to sweep his previous statements under the grass, "My name is Reedshadow. I'm from Waterclan and I've been helping Juniperpaw out recently."
He had seemingly forgotten about his herbs as he stopped gathering them, but feeling one under his paw made him snap back to reality. "Yes, that would be great! Thank you. What's your name, if you don't mind me asking?"

(I used to have a cat called Reedshadow on another site =^.^=)
"I'm Gentlebreeze," the gray tabby she cat replied. "Nice to meet you Reedshadow. You must have had a long trip to have come from WaterClan." In her youth she had traveled with her father and grandfather. Much of their time was spent near the Moon Creek which lays between the Survival Clan's and Mountain Clan's territories. She saw the Survival Clan's territories to the north but never went into them. "Are these what you're gathering?" she asked as she scooped up a hops. "What are they used for?"

(aww, that's cute. i definitely made this name completely forgetting that Funk is a bengal and not a tabby so his name makes no sense xD)
...She believed that? A total flip in personality like that? Wow, he was good at this.
Funkbeat's, now Reedshadow, eyes widened a little bit. He shifted his expression back to a relieved position before continuing.
"Yeah, you're telling me." He sighed, sitting down, "They said they'd be easy to find, but I kept going and going with nothing turning up. Talk about the short end of the stick." Huffing, he helped her gather them together.
"I don't know much, but apparently these're called hops and their good for anxiety or something like that."

Being an easy-going cat, Gentlebreeze is quick to believe - within reason of course - anything another cat says to her. She gives others the benefit of the doubt until they prove to be otherwise. She did think it strange this tom changed so quickly, however. But she did know one or two moody cats in SummerClan who were happy one minute and angry or sad the next. Maybe that's how Reedshadow is.
"Hops? Can't say I've heard of them before. But then again I don't normally work with herbs. I know some basic ones from helping my son, Graythorn." She gathered up a small pile at her feet. "Are these for you or for another WaterClan cat?" she asked thinking perhaps these hops might help his moodiness.

Funk didn't know, and frankly, didn't care why Gentlebreeze believed him. He knew his own sort who flip flopped moods like this and supposed he was channeling a part of them. A disguise with a more flattering face was always fun.
"Hey, I caught that jab and they weren't originally for me." He huffed, shooting an obviously fake mad look at Gentlebreeze, "After this whole thing, I'll probably take some. Yeah, me neither. Can't tell you why they pulled me to do this." He had his own neat pile in front of him, not that there were any easy large leaves to collect them.
Post by Whitemuzzle on Jun 29, 2019 18:13:01 GMT -5
Gentlebreeze smiled pleasantly at Reedshadow, taking in his little joke about being mad. Then looking at both piles, she asked, "So ... how are you planning on carrying all of these? There's no dock leaves around here. But there's some oak trees not too far from here. Those leaves are large and sturdy." The thought of going to the oak grove was very pleasing to her. It would get them out of this blazing sunshine and heat. "There's a small spring there too that comes out of the mountain."
Post by strawberrycupid on Jun 29, 2019 22:45:00 GMT -5
He wasn't much to get excited over small things, but just the idea of getting out of this heat was like heaven to him.
"Oh, that's be great. We can leave these here," eager to move, he left the hops as they were, ready to forget them, "You know the area really well. I take it you've lived here your whole life?"
"Yes," Gentlebreeze replied as she led the way toward the oak tree grove. "My brother and I were born here and except for a few moons when we traveled with my grandfather, I've been here my whole life."
"So what about you?" she asked hoping to learn more from the visitor. "Were you always a WaterClan cat?" As she walked, she was closer to the tom and thought it curious he didn't carry the clan's distinctive smell of fish. Beginnings of doubt concerning his veracity swirled in her head as she cast him a sideways glance.

staying in one place and only traveling once? that works for most, i would tear everyone's fur out
"No, I'm actually fairly new to Waterclan actually." Funkbeat answered quickly, too quickly to notice Gentlebreeze's hatching doubt. But still, he didn't look like, talk like or walk like a Waterclan cat. She felt like a Summerclan cat, or at least his idea of one. He needed a story, one that couldn't be disproven easily.
"I traveled with my mother, an Earthclan cat for a while before I got wrapped up in a group of rogues. Not to gossip about clan happenings, but we got tricked into helping this bogus leader over there. When he got kicked out, I kinda got inspired by Chimerahunt, the new leader. So I swore loyalty to him and now I'm there." He wove, only having heard of the recent Waterclan drama from a pair of passing apprentices, "It's worked out well. My mom's more happy I'm not with that gang anymore than that I'm not in Earthclan. But I'm still close enough to visit."

Gentlebreeze was fooled by his story, taking it all in. "Oh, that makes sense," she meowed. "I was wondering why you didn't smell like fish but I suppose you will over time." She topped a small rise and saw the oak grove just ahead. "I can't wait to get over there. I'm burning up in this heat." She started walking a little faster in her eagerness to get to the cooler shade.
"I met a few rogues in my time traveling." She recalled the time well. She and her family were chased off by an angry group of cats. If it wasn't for the stream they swam across to get away from them, she wasn't too sure she'd be here today. "They weren't very nice. Were the rogues you were with mean?"
Post by strawberrycupid on Jul 2, 2019 22:25:16 GMT -5
Oh. That works. Who says there's no such thing as luck.
Reedshadow followed alongside Gentlebreeze, he felt like he was on fire. A constant fire that only had oxygen blown into it, stirring it up more. "Yeah, somewhat. We harassed, stole and hurt quite a few cats. Most rogues don't like anyone they don't know, especially when they're in a group. That hate tends to compound. I guess I was just drawn to the attention and didn't wanna let them down. Before I knew it, I couldn't leave." Sure, he did most of those things alone, but every now and again he did it in a group. And besides, most cats wouldn't hurt another without the encouragement of another. It takes two to tango, so he saw on the twoleg box.

"But you did leave eventually," Gentlebreeze stated. She thought about what he had said. Was Reedshadow a mean cat at heart? She cast another glance at him as they walked. "You don't seem mean, at least, not now." He had ample time to attack her already but he hadn't. "So, how then did you get away from that group you were with?" She had never spoken with a rogue, or a former one, before now and the life he led seemed so intriguing, so exciting. Not that she condoned how he lived, it was just interesting to hear about a different sort of life apart from clan living.

"Well, again, I don't care for gossip." Gentlebreeze was the opposite, not suspicious at all. I mean, her name is Gentlebreeze. She could fight, he was sure, but her name seemed to really fit her. He didn't quite let his guard completely down,
"but my group was brought into Waterclan to help support Riverstar in his reign of the clan. Eventually, Chimerahunt came back, we all fought and Riverstar was killed. So now Chimerastar is leader. I expected to get kicked out, but he offered to let us stay if we swore loyalty to him. No one else in my group did except me." For the weak hearted Reedshadow, it must have been a good chance for him to get away from those he admired yet resented. To the genius Funkbeat, it was planted seeds. He just needed them watered.
"I wasn't gonna at first, but I really came to respect Chimerastar. Even if he is a little rough around the edges." He giggled
Post by Whitemuzzle on Jul 4, 2019 18:23:11 GMT -5
"Wow, that sounds exciting," the gray tabby meowed. "It was a good thing for you then that Chimerastar was generous. Not many leaders would have stood for having those who fought against him remain inside the camp, oath of loyalty or not." She thought of something else as she neared the shade trees. "You must be really brave then running this errand for your medicine cat." She looked at Reedshadow with a slight bit of admiration in her eyes. "You could run into your former rogue group while you're outside WaterClan's territory. They most likely would despise you for leaving them for a clan." She didn't need to voice the rest of what she knew would happen if he were caught. The odds against a lone cat surviving an attack by a group of cats would be astronomical.
"Ah! Shade at last!" she meowed gratefully as she passed under the first oak tree.
