"Dustfeather is right, you did well." She echoed the warriors praise with a twitch of her whiskers. "Let's scent mark any markers that seem to be fading or are becoming stale. if our markers are strong, loners like that young cat are more likely to stay away." Of course Dustfeather knew this but she made it a point to reiterate this for Sunpaw. After mentoring several different apprentices it seemed to be a force of habit these days.

"Have you marked any borders yet?" Dustfeather asked Sunpaw. He figured Ravenstone's speech was for Sunpaw's benefit and took no offense. "My only advice is to drink plenty of water before you do." He gave his deputy a knowing smile.

The Deputy gave a mrrow of laughter at the warriors words and led the two cats closer to the border. "It's not difficult and it will tell the other clans and cats that this is our territory and we are protecting it."

Upon reaching the border, Dustfeather marked a small tree, then a large rock, and then farther down a bush. "Just like that," the gray tabby meowed. "Why don't you start with that boulder?" he suggested to Sunpaw. He indicated it with a wave of his tail. "And be sure to check for any unusual scents before you mark. You might accidentally cover over a rogue's scent."

"Good. Let's keep moving. Sunpaw, you go ahead and mark that tree up ahead. Dustfeather, the rock." They had chosen specific landmarkers for their border to make it easily enforceable and today she was glad for that as she marked a nearby tree. This should keep the other clans on their sides of the border, hopefully.

The gray tabby warrior inspected the rock before he marked it. He saw some paw prints nearby but they were too big for cats. Carefully he walked over to them so he could inspect them. They reeked of dog scent so much so that he wrinkled his nose in disgust. "Over here," he called. "Dog tracks, a couple days old I think, though."

Ravenstone nodded with approval at Sunpaw and walked around a bit, scenting both the paws and the area. "I don't smell any twoleg but Dustfeather is right, they aren't fresh. I'll let the patrols know to be on the lookout and if we find anymore I'll lead a patrol to chase them away." She spoke her thoughts out loud. It was odd how making decisions like this used to be so difficult in the beginning of her deputyship but she had been deputy for so long that it was almost second nature to her.

Ravenstone considered it for a moment. It would be dangerous for such a young apprentice to go, but she clearly had a certain burning desire for it. On top of it all, one cat had been crippled and another torn apart by dogs in the nearby vicinity. She wondered what exactly was happening for so many Summerclan to become their victims. "I will talk to Foxsnarl to see if he thinks you're ready. Dogs are dangerous and you are still early in your training." Was her final answer for the time being.
