Ravenstone stretched each of her limbs in turn as she exited the warriors den with a sigh. The air was a bit chilly with a crisp edge to it but she loved that part about leaf fall. Of course, the prey was starting to become scarce which was never good but she loved the beauty of fall and the temperature was a bit on a the chilly side which the raven deputy did not mind in the slightest. The suns rays were still just peaking over the horizon as well, wonderful.

Dustfeather entered the camp from the dirt place tunnel and saw the deputy exiting the warriors den. A cold breeze ruffled his gray tabby fur causing him to shiver. He walked out from the shadow of a tree into some of the early morning sunlight that was filtering into the camp. Not much warmth, he thought, but better than nothing. Perhaps a run would warm him up. Not having yet been chosen to be on a patrol this morning, he decided that he should volunteer. "Good morning," he meowed to Ravenstone when he had come closer. "Have you made the patrols yet?"

"Good morning, Dustfeather." She greeted him with a flick of her ear. "I haven't made them just yet. Would you like to go on the morning patrol with me? Everyone seems to be sleeping soundly today." She let out a mrrow of amusement. It was strange how she realized creating patrols had become so ordinary and routine for her. She remembered when she first became deputy panicking on how to make patrols and who to assign them to. The clans had been quiet and peaceful lately so having two warriors on an early morning patrol during leaf fall shouldn't be a problem.

"I'd be glad to," Dustfeather meowed wondering what she found amusing about lazy cats still sleeping. He shrugged the thought off however. "Is this a hunting patrol or a border patrol?" It didn't matter to him but he wouldn't be a bit disappointed to have a scrap with trespassing rogue or two.
Having heard the word 'patrol' Sunpaw bounded out of the apprentice's den. The new apprentice's neck fur was still a bit ruffled from her troublesome twoleg collar. "A patrol? Can I come? Please?" She begged.

"Of course, Sunpaw. It's better for us to have a third cat. Let's go on a border patrol this morning, I'm feeling a need to see the borders today." She smiled at the other two, amused but proud of Sunpaw for volunteering so quickly. They had an abundance of good apprentices and she wanted to ensure their efforts did not go unnoticed.
"Let's head out then if you are both ready." She flicked her tail and started for the camp exit.

"Has there been any problems lately?" Dustfeather asked Ravenstone as he walked out of the camp. His father had told him about the fox he encountered in the rabbit meadow but other than that he had heard nothing. "Are rogues coming across our border again?" His neck fur bristled at the thought. He'd be ready for another battle if it came to that.

She shook her head. "No, the borders have been relatively quiet. That's what makes me nervous sometimes." She admitted truthfully. It was like kits, generally when they are active and you can hear some fuss everything is okay. It's when they're quiet you need to be nervous and watchful of them. Of course that wasn't always the case, but sometimes. Now that she had her a litter of kits it was almost as if she understood everything a little differently.

Dustfeather nodded as he agreed with the deputy. "One can never be lax concerning borders even if there hasn't been trouble lately. It's always best to keep a constant watch even when things are quiet." He knew rogues could always turn up when you least expect them and never to trust neighboring clans to respect borders either - especially when Leafbare is looming so close.
Ears pricked, Sunpaw trailed after in silence scenting intermittently. So this was Clan life. These cats were strong. Could Sunpaw really find a place among them?
"Not very far, I don't think." Sunpaw mewed, her ultramarine eyes narrowed thoughtfully. Her feathery tail twitched. "I don't like to make the first move, but I'm pretty good if someone else attacks first."

Dustfeather was a bit concerned with the apprentice's admission but not overly bothered. "We use our instincts when we fight," he meowed encouragingly. "Battle training helps to hone those instincts to make you become a better warrior. So if we get into a situation that requires fighting try to stay out of it as much as possible. But I know that's not always possible. If you have to fight try to remember what you've learned and follow your instincts."

The deputy made a mental note to have a conversation with Foxsnarl later to see if he was aware of his apprentice's concerns, she wasn't worried about him since he was an excellent warrior and mentor but fel tit would be worth both of their time. "Dustfeather is right, you know. You and Foxsnarl are always welcome to join myself and Lilacpaw for training as well, I'm sure she would love the company." Ravenstone told the young apprentice with a soft smile. She loved training the younger generation and found great pleasure in it.

"Wonderful spirit." She praised Sunpaw and she looked around both curiously and cautiously as they began to approach the border, checking for other cats or anything else out of the ordinary.
