Sunpaw's ears remained pricked, her twitching tail betraying her nervousness as her eyes darted from shadow to shadow as though any one may hide the rogue.

Dustfeather sniffed the drops of blood mingled with rogue scent. "They'll pay for this theft with their own blood," he snarled, forgetting his deputy's earlier admonition. "That was prey taken away from hungry SummerClan mouths." Then turning to Sunpaw, he meowed, "That's good. Keep alert. Let us know if you spot anything."

"We don't need to spill blood, Dustfeather. Summerclan has had enough of that." Ravenstone warned, her voice firm and stern this time. Fortunately the other clans had been quiet recently, but after the famine and sickness they lost enough cats. Ravenstone heard a rustle not too long after that and the cat scent grew stronger and she held up her tail as a warning to be quiet, pointing towards the moving bush. It was almost certainly the rogue they sought ahead of them.

"Yes, Ravenstone," Dustfeather meowed sullenly. He knew what she said was true. SummerClan had seen plenty of spilled blood recently. But he couldn't deny what he felt - hot anger in his blood for this robbery! It was then he too heard the rustling and the scent grew stronger. He stayed behind the deputy out of fear, not fear of the rogue but fear of what he might do to the rogue if he were the first one to encounter him.

Suddenly, a creature burst through the bush and she half expected it to be the rogue but it was a rabbit, running off as if it had been scared. He was still hunting there? She growled softly again and went to take a step forward but didn't have to as a small grey cat launched his way through the bush. He was young and seemed to be about the age of a young apprentice and his ability to hunt prey reflected that. "Who are you?" Ravenstone hissed at him and he drew back, flattening his ears against his head.
"i-i-i-" He stammered, yellow eyes wide at the massive cats standing before him. They looked dangerous.
Sunpaw's tension faded to curiosity as she peered from behind Ravenstone at the interloper. She couldn't help thinking that this could have been her. Without thinking, she stepped forward. "What are you doing here, daft furball? Clan territory's a good place to lose your ears!" Sunpaw hoped that he had a good reason, lest the validity of her threat be made apparent.

Dustfeather smiled at the Sunpaw's spunk. He walked around the young rogue placing him now in the center of a triangle formed by the three SummerClan cats. The small gray tom's apparent fear of them caused him to smile a little. The gray tabby tom didn't see the young cat as a big threat anymore but he knew he should be taught a lesson. Remembering Ravenstone's earlier words of frightening any intruders instead of spilling blood, he meowed, "Well Ravenstone, what should we do to this one? Scratch him him up real good like the last trespasser we caught?"

"Y-you aren't going to eat me right?" They must have been the clan cats his mother warned him about in the stories growing up. Big, mean cats with cannibalistic tendencies to boot!
"What do you think Dustfeather? I say he's hardly a fitting meal." Ravenstone knew the stories told of the clan cats outside of the territories by loner and kittypet queens, she had been told a version of them herself. "Could use a nice scratch or two if he doesn't start running." Her words were simple as if she were bored. Of course it was all an act, Ravenstone had no desire for violence.
Sunpaw's eyes widened in horror before she caught the amused glint in the older cats' gaze and caught on to the spectacle. She did her best take at a scornful snarl and lowered herself into a hunter's crouch.

Dustfeather tried to hide a smile. "A scratch or two might work," he meowed. Then with a thoughtful look, he added, "He may not be large enough for us but I know some of our kits have been very hungry. Perhaps we should bring him back to our camp and feed him to them." The thought of SummerClan's kits feasting on this young tom amused him. But it was more of a picture of the kits clambering over the stranger in a mock fight. Even in this charade he couldn't bring himself to think of such a grizzly act. Then addressing the stranger he asked, "What are you doing on our territory? If you knew we're so dangerous, why did you come here?"

"M-my sister, s-she's sick and the food was poisoned for so long. I'm sorry," He was trembling in fear before them and Ravenstone felt bad for the skinny tom. He must live in the lands just past their territory where Summerclan had been hunting. He clearly wasn't too much of a threat and she eyed him. "Take what you caught and leave our lands. By taking that prey you are agreeing to never return, understand?" She said sternly and he nodded with no hesitation before grabbing the bird and turning tail towards the roguelands.

Dustfeather stared at the deputy with disbelief in his eyes. He would have just shooed the youngster away without anything. Not to countermand his superior, he made no mention of her generosity to a stranger. Perhaps he'd ask Ravenstone about it later. "Yeah, go on! Get outta here!" His tail waved wildly behind him showing his anger and displeasure.

"Remember his scent. If he shows up on our territory again you have full permission to attack." Ravenstone instructed Sunpaw and Dustfeather. It was a hard time for all the cats and she had showed mercy not out of weakness, but out of compassion. Ravenstone fully believed compassion was the way to live your life and she felt as though the young loner knew not to come back. He was scared out of his fur and she did not want to take prey caught by someone out of the clan when they were not completely desperate as before. The prey had returned and was not bountiful but they would survive this leaf bare and many cats would reject a piece of prey with loner scent covering every feather.

"I hope he's learned his lesson," Dustfeather huffed. "If I find him here again now that he's been warned..." He didn't have to finish his sentence. He was sure the other two cats got his meaning. "You did good," he told Sunpaw. "You held your ground well." Then turning his attention back to Ravenstone, he asked, "Where to now?"
