Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Larkwing poked his head into the apprentice's den, "Briarpaw? Its time for training." The sun was just beginning to sink beyond the horizon and the stars of the sky just now being seen.
Briarpaw had been an apprentice without a mentor for a moon or so, and as such had gotten into some very bad habits of sleeping in and doing nothing. She turned her head to the deputy, blinking away the sleep. She frowned at Lawkwing as she stretched and got up. "Okay." she replied somewhat reluctantly as she made her way over to him.
The apprentice shook her head at the deputy. She didn't understand why she should be excited, she could've left the camp yesterday for all he knew (not that she had, but still). She yawned.
"Well, how about we start with tracking? That is a good skill to have. Look here," he pointed to some tracks under the leaves on the forest floor. The tracks belonged to a deer. "This is deer tracks. We dont hunt deer but their tracks are everywhere so it is a good start. You can tell by the split lines." He then touched the tracks with his paws. "They are old. You can tell because the ground is firm." He placed a pawprint next to the hoof print of the deer. "Now feel the ground where my paw was. Its soft, right?"
Frowning, Briarpaw fallowed the deputy's lead and put her paws where his had just been and nodded. She put a paw in the deer's print as well. She tilted her head in confusion. Why was the deer's ... colder, in a way. More icy. She looked at him with mild curiosity.
"That means my pawprints are fresher than the deer's. This particular deer passed through here a while ago. Most likely sometime yesterday during the day." he explained. He padded a little further into the forest before stopping again. "Look at these tracks." they were pawprints from a patrol that had passed by not too long ago. "Are these pawprints fresh or old?"
The apprentice tilted her head as she examened the pawprints that he pointed out. "They look a little fresh. Not very fresh, but probably a day or two old." Now that she was actually learning something, she found that she enjoyed being an apprentice and not just an older kit that didn't live in the nursery.
"That was a good try but these are actually the morning patrol pawprints" he explained. "That was a good guess, though. Try these," He found some racoon paw prints in the mud not too far away. They were from the night before.
Frowning at being wrong about her guess, she decided she didn't like learning after all. She had thought she'd been spot on. The apprentice didn't feel like making a guess this time, so she stayed quiet. She decided she really hated being wrong.
Briarpaw glared at the deputy for a second before turning to the pawprints. Couldn't he see that she was done learning? She was never going to be a warrior, so he should just give up now. "They look like they're from early this morning."
(I was just reading back on our thread and I saw that one of my posts said *racist alert* does it show that on your screen? I typed Raccoon so I dont know what happened there)
Larkwing frowned at her glare. It was as if she didnt want to be a warrior after all. "That was very close!" He encouraged, hiding the disappointment he felt at her lack of work. "These were left last night." He paused for a moment before continuing. "Why dont we try some battle moves?" Maybe if she was learning something fun, or more her comfort, she would want to try harder.
(Yeah. I pointed that out when I noticed it. I think they were experimenting with the censor-word option. Should be fixed.)
Briarpaw didn't understand why he was still trying. Wasn't it obvious she was a lost cause? She felt a little uncomfortable when she noted his frown, but didn't plan on saying anything about it. "Okay." she replied to his suggestion about doing some battle training.
