Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
"Oh, come on now...you will make a fine warrior. As you go through life you will see that there is so much that we don't always understand. And things dont always go the way we planned. But you will see every day that we will not turn away when it seems all your dreams come undone. We will stand by your side filled with hope and pride. You are more than you think you are" the tom soothed. "Do you understand?"
You think so? He almost said it again, but he stopped himself at the last moment, and instead slowly allowed himself to smile shyly. "Thanks, Lionspirit," he purred softly, his plumy black-and-white tail kinking over his back as a determined look settled over his features. "I hope you're right. No... I'll prove you're right! I'll be the best apprentice!"
Duskpaw wandered a few steps away and had to search for a bit, but finally he found a fresh enough scent. Mouse! That would be a great first catch. He shot his mentor an excited look as he dropped into a crouch and prowled forward.
Lionspirit gave a nod of approval and watched as his apprentice stalked the mouse. He noted how well his crouch was and really hoped he would catch it.
He circled around to its side, downwind, though not intentionally; he had moved to avoid a fallen stick in his path. He summoned his courage, then raced forward a few steps and sprang - hit! This time, his paws descended on the prey and sent it tumbling tail-lengths away. As it lay stunned he scrambled to his paws and shot after it, pounced again, and killed it with a shake.
Lionspirit leaped with joy, "yes! Well done!" The large golden tom padded over, approval shining in his starry eyes. "Great catch! You even positioned yourself down wind! I'm proud of you!"
"I did? I mean, thanks!" he beamed up at his mentor. Maybe it was a bit clumsy, but it was a kill, and that was what counted! He purred in delight, shaking out his thick black-and-white fur. "You're the best mentor ever, Lionspirit! I'm a real apprentice now!"
He let out a hearty chuckle, "indeed you are! And you are just as great of an apprentice as I am a mentor." He gave his apprentice a wink. "Now, how about some battle training, huh?"
He purred. "If you think I'm ready!" He trusted him beyond a doubt. If Lionspirit was ready to fight with him then he'd have to hope that he was right. His confidence in his new mentor exceeded his confidence in himself.
"I'm sure you are!" The golden tom purred, confident in his apprentice. "You learn quickly and that is a good skill to have. Now, follow me." The former Dayclan warrior lead the way to the training meadow, his pawsteps soundless.
It didnt take long before they arrived at their destination. The training meadow was brown from the harsh winter however little buds of grass began to sprout ever so little. "Okay." Lionspirit began, turning to face his apprentice. " I am a Nightclan warrior that has just intruded on the territory. First off, what are your instincts telling you to do?"
Beaming, he leaped after his mentor. His steps were sure despite the foreign landscape, and his head was held high as his black-and-white plumed tail streamed behind him.
He came to a halt opposite his mentor, tilted his head as he considered, then drew back his fangs in his fiercest snarl. "I'll tell you to get off our territory, or else!"
(Wait...I just realized something...if the apprentices can see spirit guides, can they touch them too?)
Lionspirit pretended to be hit and wounded, "Ah nice one!" He knew the apprentice didn't have very good battling skills yet but he believed that the best way to get the best out of an apprentice is to first build their confidence. Make them believe that they can do it.
(... that's a good question, i have no idea. Faith ?)
Duskpaw beamed as he landed a blow, then somewhat-gracefully settled on the ground again and turned to face his opponent, schooling his expression into a scowl with a gloating, triumphant gleam in his eyes. "Now get out of here before I shred you!"
