The day was as bright as the apprentice. Green eyes bubbling with mirth and a wide grin upon her face, Sunpaw bounded through the territory with a sunny look radiating from her. As she headed towards the apprentices den, a mischievous look flashed across her eyes for a brief moment. Her mentor was busy today, which meant she'd have to entertain herself in some other way.
"Good morning, rise and shine!" she called out to the other few who remained, "let's go on an adventure today!"

A wide yawn greeted Sunpaw's announcement. Crowpaw got up and stretched his legs out one at a time. Pieces of bedding moss still clung to his fur in various places. A quick shake shook off most of them but one stubborn piece still held on to the top of his head. "What do you want to do?" he asked in a still sleepy voice.

oh my god I'm so sorry I just realized I lost half my threads at some point because I didn't know I had a saved threads section !!!!! but hello i'm back!!!! Whitemuzzle
Sunpaw grinned at Crowpaw, resisting the urge to giggle at his bed fur. "Okay so...I heard a little rumour that if you climbed on top of that big tree in the middle of the territory, you can find a portal to where the fairies are. I don't know if I believe in fairies, but...it might be fun to actually climb that tree and see what's up there, right?"

(No worries! Welcome back! )
"Fairies indeed!" Crowpaw snorted. "I highly doubt it but climbing that tree sure sounds like a fun challenge. I bet we could see forever from up there. Count me in!" Besides, he thought, no one would ever guess where they're at if they come looking for them to do some odious chore. It wasn't so much that he didn't want to contribute, he was just tired of cleaning out the dens and gathering new bedding moss. He had been stuck on that detail too many times.

Sunpaw giggled at that, before leaping to her paws, excitement written all across her face. She certainly could imagine; she had never really climbed a tree as high as that, but she had always wanted to try. "Maybe if we catch a bird, they'll even think we were out hunting instead of catching fairies," she grinned cheekily, as she gestured towards the camp entrance. If they ran into the other apprentices, she'd certainly invite them along, but for now, she was content with the two of them.
"What if you catch a crow," she was already babbling along her nonsensical conversations, "you'd really fit your name then, Crowpaw. Have you ever caught any birds? I hear its really hard because they always fly away."

"What if you catch the sun since you're Sunpaw?" he grumbled, rolling his eyes. "We'd be high enough. As for birds I've caught a few." He felt proud of his accomplishments. "They're harder to catch but you have to be faster. The secret is pouncing on them before they have a chance to fly away." He never hunted them in trees yet, only when they were on the ground.
He splashed nimbly through the shallow creek near the camp getting his belly fur wet. He didn't mind it though, it would dry fast enough. "What about you? Have you caught any birds yet?"

She laughed. "Maybe I will if I climb that tree," she shot back with a smile, as she trotted along excitedly, tail straight up in the air, as she listened to Crowpaw talk about his hunting strategy. "Hm...I need to try that sometime," she noted curiously, "I think I'm better at catching mice, to be honest...they're kind of just everywhere, you know?"
Her grin was still on her face. "I've caught exactly one pigeon," she announced, "but...well, my mentor helped out too so it wasn't exactly just me."

"Team hunting is always a good way to catch prey," Crowpaw said thoughtfully. "My mentor promised to take me to the rabbit meadow soon. He says he's going to teach me how to hunt them with a partner. Now that's going to be fun!" He was looking forward to that day. Anything new and challenging thrilled him. "I've heard some warriors say that rabbit hunting is harder than anything else."
"Hey look!" the black and white tom meowed. "There's the tree. Race ya to it!" Without waiting he took off running.

She nodded. "Yeah, but I guess it's more satisfying when you get it yourself, you know?" she chuckled, but her eyes brightened at the mention of hunting rabbits. "I've only tried once, but rabbits are so fast! I don't think I'm that great at catching rabbits either, they hear you from a forest away, I swear!"
As the tom ran forward, she followed quickly behind. "Wait for me!" she called out, her paws now moving quicker as she tried to catch up with the other tom, racing to the giant oak in the center of the territory.

The feeling of the wind racing through his fur and his paws pounding the earth made Crowpaw feel alive. A quick glance over his shoulder told him Sunpaw was catching up rapidly. He dodged nimbly around bushes, rocks, and other obstacles but missed seeing a small root. That is his eyes missed it but his front paw didn't. Suddenly he found himself tumbling head over tail over and over again before he regained his feet but by then Sunpaw had caught up. With dirt and leaves sticking out all over his fur, he began to run once again. "Stupid root!" he hissed. "Now I'm going to lose!"

Sunpaw had paused momentarily, to ask whether Crowpaw was all right. It looked like a pretty big fall, but he had immediately stood once more, and that moment of concern immediately passed, only replaced by a determination to win. A grin appeared on her face as she raced forward, her fur blowing into her eyes as she blew it out of her face.
Crowpaw was quickly catching up, no thanks to her smaller size, as she darted forward, stretching her legs farther at every step in order to keep her head start. She neared the tree before realizing she couldn't exactly stop, and with a yelp, went tumbling into the oak tree with a roll, landing on her back.
She was silent for a moment, before cracking up in laughter. "Oh my god," she wheezed, "I thought I was going to roll down that hill!"

"Well you beat me to the tree by two steps, er.... I mean two rolls!" Crowpaw chortled. "At least when I fall I get up and keep on running." He enjoyed teasing Sunpaw mainly because it took the spotlight off of his own mishap.
As he stood there trying to catch his breath, his looked up into the tree. The tree went up and up and then went up some more. "Wow! I didn't remember it being this tall. I bet it reaches all the way to StarClan!" He was starting to doubt his ability to climb it but didn't say anything for fear of being labeled a mouse-heart.

She laughed at that. "But I still won," she stuck her tongue out at him playfully, as she looked up to the tree. The oak was like a dome, its leaves fanning out, branches like arms reaching to hold up the sky. For a few moments, she stared in awe alongside Crowpaw. "Yeah, me too," she gasped, "can you imagine being a tree? You'll literally be the biggest thing in the forest! Hey Crowpaw, do you think trees can talk to each other?"
Post by Whitemuzzle on Oct 30, 2021 13:05:46 GMT -5
"And just how would they do that?" Crowpaw asked, giving Sunpaw a weird look. "They don't have any mouths." Then he added, "Even if they did, they don't have ears to hear what was said."
With a mighty leap, he jumped up and sunk his claws into the tree's bark. "Are you coming or are you just going to talk to the tree instead?" It was a long way up to the first branch but he was determined to reach it first to make up for losing the race.

She shrugged. "I don't know, like maybe...like maybe their leaves move with the wind and they're actually waving!" She certainly had a giant imagination, "or maybe their roots actually talk underground!" She was still lost in her daydreams when he began to climb. She blinked, pausing for a moment, before the cheeky grin spread across her cheeks.
"Don't think you'll beat me just because your name's got Crow in it!" she laughed, as she scrambled up to another branch, looking at the different paths she could take to the top. With a leap, she landed on another branch, and then another. Oh, this was fun! The adrenaline was racing through her veins, as she looked down to the ground. A shiver ran down her spine.
"Better be careful!" she called out with a giggle, "don't want you falling off the tree!"
Post by Whitemuzzle on Nov 2, 2021 16:41:31 GMT -5
First talking trees, now waving trees! Crowpaw thought as he climbed even higher while shaking his head. "You better not fall out either. I don't want to find a flattened Sunpaw on the ground down there!" he called out before he finally reached a large limb and then scrambled up to sit upon it. Looking down he remarked, "I think this is the highest up a tree I've ever been before." Then looking up he was amazed that the top of the tree seemed just as far away as it did from the ground.
"I don't believe trees talk or clap their leaves but I think this one is growing taller as we climb it." After his moments rest, he began to climb up once again.

She grinned at that. "Aw, you don't like pancakes?" she teased, as she leaped to another branch, sturdy enough to hold her weight. She looked down, which...when she thought about it, wasn't that great of an idea, because wow! They were pretty high up in the sky already. Well, that was...a little bit scarier than she thought it'd be.
At Crowpaw's joke, she let out a little laugh. "Maybe your legs are growing shorter," she joked, "that's why it looks taller now."
Post by Whitemuzzle on Nov 3, 2021 15:34:12 GMT -5
Crowpaw looked down again and marveled at how high they were. Even the large hole nearby didn't look that big now that they were so far up. But he knew the hole was several tail lengths deep. "Nah, they're not growing shorter, they're growing stronger!" he mewed happily. "Hey! Look at that!" He waved his tail in the direction of a bird which was flying past. "It's flying lower than us. We're higher than the birds!"

She giggled, as she looked at the bird, her hazel eyes shining in wonder. "Do you think they make their nests up in this tree?" she wondered out loud, before looking at the tree trunk. "Maybe if we find the middle of the tree there's whatever fairies they were talking about." She gestured towards the point in which two large branches diverged from one. It must be easy for the birds to get up there, she thought enviously. Sometimes, she wished she could live as a bird for a day, just to try it out.
Post by Whitemuzzle on Nov 4, 2021 19:18:00 GMT -5
"I thought the fairies were supposed to live at the top of this tree, not the middle," Crowpaw commented. He looked at the branches Sunpaw indicated and started to climb toward them. "Hey! There's a bird's nest up there. Maybe if we're lucky there'll be eggs in it." That thought drove him onward until he reached the nest. "Fox dung," he hissed in disappointment. "Nothing but feathers." Then an uncharacteristic mischievous thought struck him. He let his eyes grow big and round as he gasped, "I bet this isn't a bird's nest after all. These must be fairy feathers! Come an' see!"
