Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
"IT. IS. TOO. HOT. FOR. THIS." Sunpetal's cry rang out through camp. She felt like the sun was baking her even where she was plopped in the shade of Ratstar's beech den, the heat making her want to shed all her fur and start running around like Hystericstar's naked self, but that wouldn't be very lady-like of her, now would it? That didn't stop her from trying though, and she was in the middle of slicing off a particularly long strand of hair from between her tiny toes when an idea formed, very suddenly, in her head. Instantly, the Garden Keeper was on her paws and charging surprisingly nimbly towards her new abode, within which now contained her siblings and friends. "Hey! Lazy bums, come on, we're going doing something fun today and I won't hear anything else of it!"
She retreated before anyone could object and moved on to the apprentices' den, peeking within it as well. "YOOHOO~ Wakey, wakey, maggots! You runts---" Did Sunpetal have any right to call anyone a runt with how short she was herself? Probably not, but it wasn't about to stop her! "--can come too. We can either go to the lake in the Rabbit Meadow or to the falls in the Deep Lands today," she said before also retreating quickly. Out in the meadow was a small lake, probably more aptly called a pond, but the presence of trees so close to its bank kept the waters chilled even in this fierce heat, and there were several vines hanging from the tree branches they could swing on. However, the waterfall's mist made the whole area feel cooler and jumping from the top of the hill into the depths below was always fun. For once she was willing to let the others decide where they were going---but only because she didn't have a preference.
(Anyone can join but I am going to tag everyone who had a character promoted in the ceremonies so they can celebrate their promotion with a fun-filled day!)

Fisherpounce was dozing lazily in the shade of one of the trees which helped to form the camp wall when he heard Sunpetal's excited meowing. Earlier he had dampened himself in the shallow stream that flowed near the camp but now his fur was all dry again. "Count me in!" he called, rising to his paws. Just hearing about the cool waters waiting for them galvanized him into action.
Crowpaw was shading himself in the shadow of the apprentice's den. It was much too stuffy for him to be inside it. "I wanna go!" then correcting himself he repeated in a more dignified manner, "I'd like to come along." Memories of the first time he was out of the camp came flooding back. It was when Devotedcrow had a swimming party in the stream. Today would be an excellent day to swim again!

Sunpaw didn't really know what was going on, but as a new apprentice, she loved the idea of exploring the territory. Hearing Crowpaw's excitement, he quickly bounded up after the other apprentice, eager to make new friends. "So where are we going?" she asked the other apprentice, her bright eyes glowing with excitement. She had only met Sunpetal once, and well, the other cat was a bit...eccentric really, but she was excited to go regardless.

"I'm not sure where to exactly," Crowpaw replied. "But somewhere we can swim and get cooled off." He couldn't remember if Sunpaw had gone on the deputy's swimming outing last moon so he decided to ask her. "Have you been swimming yet? I went on that rare occasion when kits were allowed out of the camp last moon. That's when I learned how to swim."

Sunpaw shook her head. "Not yet," she frowned. She had been five moons old when her father had left her here, after all. She had missed out on plenty of the things the other kits had done. "Is it hard to learn? You know, to swim?"
Post by Whitemuzzle on Jun 21, 2021 15:31:49 GMT -5
"Not really," Crowpaw said as he puffed out his chest a little in boasting. He didn't want to tell her he was afraid at first. "If you relax, you just float and then you move your legs in the water like you're trying to run to move around. It's easy."
Sunpetal whisked her tail between the two apprentices, drawing their attention back to her and Fisherpounce as he joined them. "If we're going at all, we need to decide where," she reminded them. "Do Rabbit Meadows or the Deep Lands?" Sunpaw's apparent lack of swimming experience did concern her a bit, but she supposed keeping two apprentices from drowning wasn't too difficult a task for StarClan's chosen two. "Where do you think we should go, Sir Fisher?"

A genuine smile appeared on Fisherpounce's face. As much as he liked his new name, he'd always like the nickname Sunpetal gave him when they were kits. "I think the pool below the waterfall in the deep lands would be a nice refreshing place to go, Queen Sunstar," he mewed. He knew the mist in the air from the falling water would also help keep down the heat.
"Sir Fisher? Queen Sunstar?" Crowpaw asked with a quizzical look on his face. "Those aren't your new names. Why are you calling each other that?"

Sunpaw giggled. "They're just being weird," she whispered to the other apprentice. She always did think Sunpetal was a bit...off. She threw a fit over the two of them sharing the same prefix, after all. "I think all adults do that...you know, weird things."
He knew the invitation, while open, was restricted to those still living in the nursery. Perhaps that was the intrigue of it all; getting up to mischief, once again, in order to have some fun. He was certain once he became an apprentice – if he ever did – that life would become much more dull without as many rules to break, but for now, he could still play around. Lostkit hid behind the nursery and watched the group of cats gather in camp, talking animatedly about the swimming break and fun they were planning to have. His little haunches wiggled and he crept closer to the clearing, though kept to the shadows so as not to be detected. Once the group figured out where they would go, he would be off like a shot after them. Until then, he began to experience his own bout of excitement. He loved the water, but he hadn't actually gone swimming yet. The older ones said it was too dangerous, he could be swept away, but if it had never happened before, who's to say it ever would?
Ignorant of Lostkit's presence, the Garden Keeper sighed at the apprentices' befuddlement, mumbling a retort to Sunpaw. "You apprentices are the weirdos. I mean, who doesn't know knights are called sir and I'm gonna be SummerClan's first medicine cat-turned-leader. You know, once Graythorn comes to his senses and gets rid of birdie." Despite her nonchalance, Sunpetal was fond of Vulturepaw but it would be his own misfortune to stand between and destiny.
Seeing as she wasn't getting very far with the younger cats, both of their expressions just as blank as before, she turned to her friend. "The Falls it is! Come on everyone, file in," and she began marching away, tail high and gaze shining.
Lostkit's haunches poised to spring forward, eager once more when he heard they had settled on a location, though it appeared a little one sided, yet he managed to hold himself back despite the excitement. He'd need to strategize this, use all of his muscles – including all of his brain – to get there in one piece. Then, and only then, could he allow himself to face whatever wrath Sunpetal and the rest of the group could cook up. This was totally worth it... Maybe.

Fisherpounce smiled at Crowpaw and Sunpaw. He remembered when he thought grown ups were weird. "Come on, let's go," he meowed to the apprentices. "We're going to have a fun time today!" He was unaware of Lostkit's presence with the impromptu group.
Still confused by Sunpetal's explanation, Crowpaw decided to forget about it. So what if they wanted to call each other weird names. What's important now was going swimming. "I'll show you how I learned to swim when we get there," he meowed to Sunpaw. Inwardly he hoped he still knew how.

Honestly, Sunpaw had no idea what Sunpetal was on about, but she just nodded as if she understood what was going on. It was pretty funny listening to Sunpetal talk; half of the time, Sunpaw had no idea what was happening but she was always passionate about it, and that was all that mattered. Turning to Crowpaw, she gave him a sunny grin. "Please! I'll owe you one for that."

"Sunpaw's comment made Crowpaw feel very good about himself. Someone's actually relying on me for something useful! he thought. He determined to do his very best when they reached the base of the waterfalls.
"Thanks," he purred. Then recalling what he had done the last time, he continued, "Just take it slow at first when you go into the water. Then gradually go in deeper until your feet can't touch bottom. When that happens, just move your legs back and forth like you're running -- then you'll be swimming!"

She laughed. "You're making it sound a lot easier than it looks," she teased, "I haven't tried it yet but I swear it's probably a lot harder than just walking into water...but I guess we'll see!" She was excited to finally learn.
Post by Whitemuzzle on Jul 14, 2021 18:41:43 GMT -5
Maybe I did make it sound easier than it really was, Crowpaw thought. He did remember being a little scared at first but he wasn't about to admit that. "It seems to me that you're not afraid to learn so that's half the battle. Some cats are scared to even their paws wet," Crowpaw meowed. "They're just 'fraidy cats' but I'm not. I love the water!"
Drowning out the two apprentices' chatter behind them, Sunpetal marched importantly ahead of their ragtag group, also oblivious to Lostkit darting ahead even as she took in a deep inhale. "What a wonderful day to go swimming," she sighed, the distant thunder of the falls and the mist beginning to dapple the air placating her extraness for the time being. Though it was clear she was impatient; her tail lashed restlessly and she had to keep slowing herself down for the others to catch back up.

"Hey! I can smell the water!" Crowpaw meowed excitedly. Already his fur was beginning to dampen some with the mist that hung in the air.
Fisherpounce moved ahead and passed Sunpetal. After coming out from behind some bushes, he looked up at the towering waterfall and the small pool it formed after it fell over the steep cliff. "Okay everyone! We're here!" he called out. He couldn't wait until he was paddling around in that cool, inviting water.

Sunpaw grinned, straining her neck to look at the water ahead, already bounding forward to take a better look as the mist covered her fur, sending sparkles into the air above the churning waterfall, a bright iridescent light making everything glow. "Look!" she shouted excitedly, "a rainbow! That's so cool, I've never seen one before!"
