He needed to get out. To clear his head. Everything was compressing around him and his ears were ringing. He had become helplessly entangled in clan politics, and he hated it; he hated that he was always the villain, but someone had to stand up to Ratstar and warn him when he was a bad choice. This time the leader had listened to him, but what about next time? He felt like he couldn’t breathe anymore, not freely, not while he was on SummerClan land.
So he has taken a walk, and that was how he had ended up here. Here was precariously perched on the top of a jagged sand stone, his claws scraping against the formidable rock. Here had him feeling incredibly stupid. Sootstep couldn’t get off the rock because when he moved the world hissed at him, and he couldn’t for the life of him identify where the snake was. Curled around one of these stones, sliding through the cropped grass, he had caught only a glimpse before he fled to the high ground and now he was stuck and had nowhere to go. The silver lining? Any SunClan cat that tried to chase him off their land was going to get bit.

Tinymutiny had managed to slip away from camp unnoticed her kids to busy with their own affairs to notice that their mother gotten out of camp. When they realized they would be hunting her down, but for now at least she was content to be left alone with nothing but her own thoughts. She didn't really know where she was headed, but she always felt better when her feet were moving. It helped her mind be less restless, bringing some clarity to the fog that filled it. Then some movement caught her eye, a tom up on top of a rock looking rather terrified.
"Scared of getting your pelt dirty?" she taunted, claws digging into the earth as she readied herself to launch at the intruder. She had been itching to dig her claws into something all day, and intruder was just the excuse she needed.
“Hardly,” Sootstep retorted, whipping his head around to glare at the enemy warrior. “I’m just not keen on getting bit by a snake. Stay still a moment longer and you’ll know what I mean.” He crouched closer to the rock, balancing as evenly as possible. If she attacked him they’d both fall off and he had no intention of dying that easily.
He was a little surprised she wasn’t snake food already. He heard the same whistling hiss racing through the stubby grasses, but he couldn’t make out a rattler’s body anywhere.

One ear flickered towards the distinctive rattle and hiss, but her gaze didn't come off the cat on the rock. Unlike the cat before her, snakes didn't scare her, even the rather nasty ones such as rattlers. It wasn't the first time she had come across one, not would it be the last staying here in SunClan. She growled "Seems like I'll have to get to you in a moment" she then turned her attention to the snake, the all to real danged cutting through her mental fog as instincts kicked. The adrenaline keeping the weight of her depression at bay for a short a time. She had been hunting snakes since she was a kit, killing her first venomous snake when she was only an apprentice... images of Oakshade flashed through her mind, but for the first time in a long time she was able to push it away.
She watched the long grass carefully, and from her perspective she was able to see it coiled up and ready to strike. What she needed to do was get it to uncoil so that she could land upon it's head. She was out of range, having the stone between her and the serpent. She slapped a rock towards, getting it to strike in her direction but fall short before it recoiled. Again she slapped a rock with her paw, and it stuck out again. However this time it began to flee. She waited until it was stretched out before approaching, getting closer before launching her attack. It was a life or death moment, you either killed it or got killed. This time, she was successfully landing with her full weight upon its head, as it's body squirmed and coiled under her. She killed it, then jumped away as it continued to writhe and turning her attention back to the cat on the rock "Now then, where was I?"
Was she hunting it? Sootstep shook his head slightly. No wonder SunClan cats had such a reputation for madness. He leaned forward on the rock to watch her and by the time she prepared to strike he leaped off the rock, certain the snake had seen her and was about to turn around. His heroic moment was unnecessary as she caught the predator and killed it herself, and he slowed down a few feet away.
“I think you were about to threaten me,” he suggested, turning to smooth down his dark coat where it had ruffled on his shoulders. “Smite me with sunlight. Are you going to eat that?” He looked at the writhing body. “Seems like dangerous prey.”

"More dangerous if you allow it to live and breed, we eat what the Sun God provides" she answered, flexing her claws into the earth feeling better than she had in many moons. The blood rushing through her her drowning out her own negative thoughts, even though it wouldn't last for too long "Unfortunately for you, you are on SunClan's territory. So you have two choices" The silver she-cats tail swished from one side to the other
"1. I can chase you out of here and give you a little reminder not to trespass in the future or 2. If came seeking to join us, than I can take you to High Priestess for to speak about initiation"
“The choice isn’t so difficult now that I know what you eat,” he replied, flicking back one ear. As curious as he was, it was hard to believe a snake could taste good. “I’ll head back to my own territory. Thanks for the rescue.” Sootstep flashed her a grin, pretending there wasn’t a hint of bitterness lacing his tone.
He didn’t have a great track record of she-cats coming to his rescue. They always turned out to be trouble.

Tinymutiny rolled her eyes, allowing the tom to take back off over the border. He wasn't that far over it, and her need to tear something apart had been satiated with the snake "Good, SUnClan doesn't need another warrior who is is so afraid of a little snake that they have to hide on a rock" she walked and grabbed the snake that was still biting at the air behind its head, following after the cat to make sure that he crossed over the border
Sootstep glared at her but said nothing. He turned with a snap of his tail and stalked back to the border.
He had only made it a few steps across when his anger receded enough to be replaced by another sense - danger. He slowed down with his whiskers twitching and looked back at her, just in time to catch motion from the corner of his eye. He jerked back with a shout as fangs tore into his shoulder and he stumbled back, jerking around and snapping at the snake, one paw slamming into the end of its tail and he fought it keep its teeth away.

Tinymutiny turned to leave, her prize clamped within her jaws when a scream reached her ears. Dropping the snake, she raced over to find him entangled with yet another snake. She muttered a curse, and for a moment she stood frozen. All she could see was the way the snake had bitten Oakshade and curled around his leg. She blinked, the vision fading, before jumping in. Carefully aiming a paw at the top of the snakes head while it was focused on Dragonfly. Her first paw missed, landing on the ground beside of it's head, but luckily her second on hit it's mark. She readjusted holding it down, but this one was far more powerful than last. It's thrashing nearly enough to throw her off "Kill it" she growled
The dark gray tom snarled as wrestled with the snake, feeling that every time he gained the upper hand, it slipped free of his claws. He needed space to fight, it was too slippery and too quick, but there was no escaping until finally, the SunClan warrior joined the fray. Sootstep rolled free and spun around, and without hesitation, he lunged at the snake and crunched the slender body between his jaws until blood ran down his lips.
He spat it out when it was only twitching and sank to the ground, sitting and panting for breath. "Your territory sucks," Sootstep spat. He turned to lick at his injured shoulder as twin rivulets of blood streamed down.

Tinymutiny didn't answer at first, staring intently at the two blood streaks that ran down his shoulder. Had the snake injected any venom? She blinked "Or perhaps fate has decided to intervene. Now you must come with me if you wish to live" she motioned towards the wound "If you try and return home, you'll suffer a rather gruesome end long before you get there"
The problem was that walking wasn't much of an option, and neither could she carry him. He needed to stay still as possible on that shoulder to not course the venom through his body. If the bite had been lower she may have been able to tie a vine tightly around it, but the shoulder made it tricky. All she could do was to keep the leg elevated and to get him to someone that could treat it as quickly as possible. There were to far from camp, the ceremony springs would have to do. At least she hoped there would be a Janus there that was able to work on such an injury
"You need to keep that leg off the ground.... Lean on me if you must" she was small, but stronger than she looked even in her weakened state
His dark gray fur fluffed up and he glared at her. “I appreciate the help fighting and all, but I’m not joining your clan,” Sootstep warned. As far as he was concerned, the only fate that might be at play here was their god, and he wasn’t going to be turned into one of those sun worshippers that easily. “I feel fine. It’s just a small bite.”
A long and gruesome end did not sound pleasant but he did not trust her either. His skin wasn’t burning so he doubted it was venom rushing beneath his skin. He turned and stalked toward SummerClan land, intentionally putting a little extra weight on his shoulder to prove he could handle it.

"Suit yourself, but don't say that I didn't warn you. It's your life to throw away if you want to" she turned away from the tom back towards the snake that still writhed on the ground placing a stick between its jaws and rubbing back behind its head until a yellow liquid came from its fangs "See that? That's enough to kill all the cats in SunClan combined, but if you think you are strong enough to beat it on your own than go on your merry way" the silver she-cat shrugged her shoulders "I won't stand in your way"
He stalked on for a few more steps until his curiosity got the best of him; then, looking frustrated, Sootstep stopped and waited impatiently for her to finish playing with the snake. The venom bubbling from its fangs didn't look very encouraging.
"You don't know that it bit me with any venom," the gray warrior pointed out. He could be fine. But even as he spoke, he knew he couldn't take that risk. SummerClan was a long way off.
"Fine," he relented with a scowl. "Where are we going?"

"Perhaps not" she shrugged. She didn't know for sure that he had been injected, but there was a high likelihood that it had. Venomous snakes didn't have dry bites very often where cats where concerned, but it was his choice and his choice only. She wasn't in a position to judge, having often thought about simply allowing one of the snakes in inject her to end things. Only stopping because of her children, and the fact that Oakshade wouldn't be on the isle waiting for her... No she couldn't leave, not yet.
She rose to leave, when his voice reached her ears "To Soaringlight" Jadie
"Is that your medicine cat?" Sotoestep didn't bother to try and remember the name of all their ranks right now. It didn't really matter, did it? With a last longing look over his shoulder, thinking of home, he limped back to her side and stalked after her, determined not to lean on her for the way back even if it inconvenienced him.
Soaringlight hadn't been hard to find. The dark-furred she-cat had been hard at work sorting through the herb stores for the second time that week. For some reason it seemed as if all but 15 herbs in their collection were wilting and spoiling faster than was normal and she couldn't figure out why. Littlestar was baffled too, so best the two she-cats could do was keep clean and rotate often. It was super annoying.
Upon the approach of Tinymutiny and Sootstep, she had turned around, one ear cocked at an odd angle, and a sour expression on her face. She hadn't yet noticed that any cat was wounded and was instead focusing on the... SummerClan tom that was suddenly in the heart of SunClan's camp? She didn't much care about it to be fair, but other cats in SunClan certainly would.
"Why did you bring him here and what does he want?"

"Sort of" Tinymutiny let him walk on his own, even though it made their progress slow. After all she carried the dead snake that had bit him with her, just in case there was any question about what kind of snake it had been. She had guessed that Soaringlight might be hanging out around the ceremony springs, and was pleased to find out that she was right. Soaringlight seemed like less of sticklr for rules and would hopefully be able to treat the bite "Soaringlight" she greeted, flickering her tail back to the tom that was following her "Some mouse-brain who went and got himself snake bit" she put the snake down for her to examine JadieCleaver
Sootstep gave the healer a hard, unfriendly look. He wasn't thrilled to see her either, but he wasn't going to be overly harsh-- mostly because he was starting to feel a bit strange (just blood loss, he told himself, or you're getting in your head again) and it was making him nervous.
"I wouldn't have gotten bit if you let me stay where I was," he replied irritably, "instead of trying to chase me off of your territory while a bunch of snakes were nearby." He stalked over to Soaringlight and slid ungracefully into a sitting position. "Do you keep a lot of snake antidotes on you?"
