Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Jetkit was lucky that Tinybreath showed up when she did, otherwise she probably would have knocked the younger kit in the head for not immediately listening to her. A passing flash of relief that there was someone older moved through her, but the small girl's eyes were clouded in guilt and regret.
She looked to the elder. "We were playing tag and he slipped..." she meowed, although her voice was very quiet. "I wasn't fast enough. If I could have been fast enough, I could have caught him..." Of course, this wasn't necessarily true. If Applekit had made it to him fast enough, they probably would have both suffered similar fates. Tears welled in her eyes as she looked down to Melonkit. "I'm.... I'm sorry."
The first healer to arrive was the most inexperienced one, Fawnpaw. The young taupe she-cat raced down the narrow slope with a small bundle of herbs in her jaws, although they weren't hand-picked for this treatment, they were just what she had been collecting when Jetkit found her, "Emergency at the Cat's Tongue! Melonkit is hurt!"
Fawnpaw dropped her herbs and gently nosed at Melonkit. There were some parts of obvious swelling but no open wounds that she could see, which if anything worried her more because, if it really was as simple as a sprain of a bruise, the kit would have surely been on his feet by now, only to come to her den later complaining about being sore from playing too hard.
Her conclusion: Something was very, very wrong with Melonkit.
"Hey, little one," Fanwpaw said gently, as if breaking horrible news although she didn't know what it was yet, "Can you tell me where you hurt the most?"

"Um..." Melonkit's brow furrowed. He gave a quick glance over to the smaller, semi-blurred figure next to Fawnpaw--Applekit. The expression on her face was hard to make out, but he could hear the worry in her voice clear as day. Typical Applekit. "I don't know," he said, staring back into space. "I can't...I can't really feel some of it."
It wasn't unusual for a cat to go into shock after such a big fall, which made Fawnpaw a little optimistic. Shock affected everyone differently and one of those effects was a general numbness to the pain. However, something in the young she-cat's gut doubted that it was quite so simple. Other signs of shock was shaking and trouble breathing neither of which Melonkit seemed to have, just a brain fog.
"Melonkit, I'm only asking you to do this because I know you're really brave," She said with a soothing, motherly voice, "But since I can't see any wounds, I am going to need to feel around to see if I can find any. Please hold as still as you can and tell me the second you start to hurt, OK? I'll stop. I'm just going to try and figure out what's wrong so when Firetooth gets here he can make you all better."
