Littlestar stood outside the High Priestess den, a darkened sky behind her "Children of the Sun, the High Priestess desires your presence" as she finished speaking there was a distant boom of thunder that echoed through the sandstone canyon that they called home
Usually ceremonies were held on warm and sunny days, but this storm was something to celebrate "Today we shall be blessed with our first storm since the explosion that coated our territory in ash. We should all celebrate the rain that it brings, and pray that it helps our lands heal from the scars that have been inflicted upon it. We have three kits who are ready to begin their training to become SunClan warriors. It is with great reverence that I, High Priestess, stand beside our Great Protector today. With his permission and guidance, it is now that I grant our youth their new names. May they serve him well and bring blessings onto his people.
May the three of you make a wise decision of who will be your first mentor. As such, all of our clans apprentices will now have the opportunity to change their mentor, if they so desire. Your future is in your paws, go forth and select your mentors" as she finished speaking, the clouds grip on the heavy rain drops faltering. The small leader tilted her head upwards to greet the rain, the droplets seeping into her long coat.

The silver tom swallowed and glanced at his mentor from the corner of his eye, attempting to gauge what mood the tom was in based entirely on his body language and facial expression. It had only been a moon since his promotion to apprentice and his chasing after Darksonata as his mentor. This could be the chance for him to get them both out of the situation. Yet he faced internal conflict... he wasn’t sure if he wanted out of his situation. Sure, Darksonata was... different, but so was he. Who else was going to teach him how to disappear like a shadow? But... did Darksonata want to be rid of him?
"I WANT LITTLESTAR!!!!!!!" Eastpaw was a brat. Moreover, he was a brat who didn't ever like taking 'no' for an answer. Unseenlights, if she was present, would see the meltdown coming from a mile away, naturally. Of course, he could always be sated with chicken nuggies. If only SunClan had a nugget tree.
Watermelonpaw hummed quietly to himself as the rain began to coat his red-and-white pelt. He made no move to choose a new mentor, indicating that he was going to stick with Ferventprayer this time around.

Pixiepaw was on bedrest and unable to attend the Clan meeting. Her paws were healing up but still horribly painful to move let along walk on, but that wasn't even the worst of it, no, it was the fact that she was pregnant and had already gone into early labor twice since Littlestar's return. It would be a long time before she began her Warrior training again... if she'd ever be able to.

Soaringlight booped Eastpaw on the top of his head, not hard enough to hurt him but hard enough to probably knock her adoptive sibling over, "Littlestar's apprentice is the Promised, which isn't going to be you. A Promised is honorable, polite and stoic like Duskslayer, and you are none of those things. Maybe if you gave up on chicken nuggets, you'd have a shot..."
The dark furred she-cat nuzzled Eastpaw's cheek then drew away from the apprentice, knowing that if she held him down much longer he'd probably throw an even bigger fit and she did not want to be part of that scene.
Strangely, even though it was raining all around her, Soarlinglight's fur was not getting wet. She hadn't noticed it yet, her attention still mostly on Eastpaw. Honeystorm
Palepaw looked around at the various warriors trying to figure out who would be the best mentor for her. Satisfied with her choice she marched right up to the tom she hoped would mentor her. “Bravewolf would you honor me by teaching me the ways of the clan?” She tried to chose her words carefully so she sounded grown up. Apparently Bravewolf was the reincarnation of the Sun God and while she had questions about that, who would be better to teach her the ways of the clan than its own god. Plus Bravewolf was born in a different group so he probably knew more than just ordinary SunClan cats.

Darksonata stood by his sister, undisturbed by the rain that had been released from the clouds above. However he felt his gaze move onto Silverpaw, almost unaware that he had done so. The apprentice seemed almost unbearably determined to study under him, and even though he had found it rather annoying at first he had to admit that the persistent little cat was growing on him. Not that he would admit that or change his ways. He was curious to see, would Silverpaw continue to study under him or move on to a better mentor? ѕнαdow✩
Southpaw moved to Eastpaw's side, knowing that there mother was not currently in the clan as she searched for their father. "Eastpaw, come on you don't want her" she tried to soothe, and make another option more appealing "Look at her, she is in no shape to be training you. Come on lets find someone that can give you a real challenge" She shot a glare at Cherrypaw "Then why don't you pick him then?" Honeystorm
The newly named Burnishedpaw had already decided on who he wanted as his mentor during the last ceremony before he was even promoted. The young tom wiggled his rump, and raced over to Anemoneshade. She always seemed so kind, but there was a sadness in her eyes that he hoped he could help her with to "I would like for you to be my mentor" strawberrycupid

It had been an interesting change to watch from the sidelines. Originally, Vantapaw had been assigned Dragonfly. A cat who at least ran him through the basics pretty quickly but that was about it. And an opportunity to switch was something he really couldn't pass up. The question of who was a hard choice, his mind racing to try and find the best cat to push him through the final parts of his apprenticeship here. Or, someone who would let him sleep a bit longer. An odd choice, but he had the scraggly kind of appearance that could draw the attention of the she-cat he was approaching. It was a bit of a shame he was the first to approach her, but he also hated sharing. "Hello Glitterfreeze. I'm Vantapaw." He introduced himself, placing a paw on his chest as his tail flicked behind him. "Would you do me the honor of training me for the next moon?" Faith

Surprisingly, Peppermintpaw made no move as well. Looks like Anemoneshade's kits inherited her loyalty. Heck, the crimson apprentice even leaned against Discordantmelody's leg, eyes glaring at any apprentice that even got close. If she chased him away, he'd find someone else. But he was also rather stubborn so it would probably only make things worse. Jadie

Perhaps Anemoneshade wasn't even aware of the sadness that lurked in her eyes that the new apprentice saw. She thought she was doing fine. Most of her kids were growing up healthy and strong, her newfound relationship with Naturalgift was going great. It wasn't until Burnishedpaw approached her with that same look she saw Watermelonpaw gave Ferventprayer that she began to doubt. The ghosts of the past weren't so easily shaken off, but Anemoneshade didn't notice until now as she smiled down at the new apprentice. "Of course I'd love too." She said with a purr, shoving that darkness back with a smile. "Don't expect it to be easy though, Burnishedpaw." racer
Glitterfreeze always attended ceremonies, she had only been assigned a SunClan apprentice once, which happened to be Spellmania. She was almost certain that it was because she trained Spellmania that the clan had banned her from mentoring another cat. Even though she swore Spellmania was insane when she got her, but no one was buying it. Now that apprentices had the freedom to choose their own mentors though it seemed the tide had changed.
"Sure, did you want to be an assassin, a spy, have a specialty in mind?"
"Aw, how cute," Discordantmelody purred, nuzzling Peppermintpaw's cheek in what felt like a strange show of affection. The calico she-cat was as hard to predict as she was to interpret, "You decided to stick with me for another moon? Just for that, I'll show you the pathway to my very favorite tunnel." strawberrycupid

No one stopped Vantapaw. And if anyone had tried, he would have shoved them out of the way. Just based on her propositions, he knew he made the right choice. He didn't know she mentored Spell, or really that she was Glowstar. Those kind of things are hidden, and if they weren't, Vantapaw was usually too tired to pay attention. But she agreed easily enough and that was all Vantapaw he needed. "Ooh wow. You can teach me things like that?" He may have sounded a bit too fake cute, but whatever. "Definitely an assassin though." What. You thought he would say spy? He was already getting all that from Moonclan. May as well learn something new. Faith
~~
A wave of relief washed over Peppermintpaw. It was true. Even after a moon with her, he still didn't have a good grasp on just what Discordantmelody would do. But the nuzzle of affection was appreciated, though he was a bit too short and wrapped around her leg to reciprocate. "Really?" He asked with wide eyes and a wiggle of his haunches. "Where is it? Or is it like a secret?" Jadie
"Glitterfreeze, can I talk to you?" Standing behind his former apprentice was Dragonfly, his thin white shoulders slumped forward and dark circles under his pale eyes. He knew she was talking to Vantapaw, but this was important, so he waited for a brief second longer then stepped closer to her, his voice low and exhausted.
"I know I've been a bad mentor," he murmured. "I've tried to teach Vantapaw, but I've had... a lot to deal with lately." The smell of smoke filled his nostrils. His sister's gasps rang in his ears. He took a deep breath to quell the memories. "He's a promising cat. I don't know why he chose you, you're not a real SunClan where-ior, but I hope you can do his justice." With effort, he smiled, then stepped away from her and dipped his head.

Eastpaw exploded. Unfortunately, it wasn't a literal explosion, and more that the tom let out an ungodly scream, and threw a fit. One which consisted of him throwing himself onto the ground and howling. "I WANNA BE MENTORED BY LITTLESTAR! LITTLESTAR HAS TO TRAIN ME!!" They sobbed immediately.
Bravewolf turned to talk to Eastpaw when Palepaw caught his attention and he stopped, blinking slightly. "Me?" Was that allowed? Was this something he got to choose, or what? He honestly didn't know how to respond, and glanced at Littlestar for an idea of how to go about this. @atomheart racer
Soaringlight sighed as Eastpaw continued to throw his fit, but she decided to withdraw from the situation. What he wanted was a big reaction and she was not going to be the cat to give it.
"I'm so happy that no one has chosen me," She murmured to Darksonata, her eyes closed and ears angled back slightly, "When kids start screaming, I've always been able to find an escape from the situation. But that's only because I'm not responsible for any of them. I'd like to keep it that way." racer

"It's just an old tunnel that my mother showed me many moons ago. I'd love to tell you more, but it would ruin the surprise, kitten," Discordantmelody purred, booping Peppermintpaw on the nose with her own. She wasn't sure if this tom was quite the right fit for the lesson she was going to teach but, ya know, whatever, what's the worst that could happen? strawberrycupid

The young kit, no she was an apprentice now, looked around for a good mentor to choose. She hadn't thought this far along and only slightly felt guitly she hadn't planned better for this. Looking around a bit longer she saw this behemoth of a cat just a short few feet away. His ash dark fur had caught her eye but it was the obvious muscle that had her convinced he would be a good choice. Trotting up to the warrior the young grey and white cat blinked up at him. "Hey could I be your apprentice?" She had no clue who he was but didn't care. If only she realized it was Slipperyslope and knew what he was truly capable of... Cleaver

Slipperyslope sat beside the nursery, his back straight and shoulders back, alert and attentive. He did not care at all about the silly clan cat ceremony; he had one job and that was Guard. He had to Guard the nursery from everyone. Shadeflower had brought home kittens and he wasn't supposed to get rid of them for her... instead he had to protect them? As another small cat approached him, he stared down at her blankly. His apprentice? That was one of those clan things he ignored.
But she was Tiny and he knew what to do with small things.
"SHADEFLOWER, I got you new kit," he boomed brightly. The massive tom picked up Lilypaw by the scruff and tossed her into the nursery.

"H-hey I was just promoted. I don't want to be demoted! I'm not that bad of a learner to be given up on. Pleaaaase will you teach me the ways of being strong like you mister? You look so cool!" Lilypaw looked up with the most precious looking face she could muster. "I can make you proud and you can show off how awesome of a mentor you can beeee." She got up to her paws and started to follow him. CleaverNova
Shadeflower had been dozing off, tail curled around the kits she had found. The key word being had. The mottled tortoiseshell had quickly opened her eyes as the air around her stirred and suddenly Lilypaw was in the nursery as Slipperyslope excitedly spoke of getting her a new kit. Oh dear...
“Ah, congratulations Lilypaw” Shadeflower chuckled as she carefully rose from the nest. She picked out bits of moss from the new apprentice’s gray pelt before following her outside.
“Slipperyslope, apprentices don’t live in the nursery anymore.” She mewed. “Lilypaw wants you to train her. Please don’t throw her into the nursery or squish her.” ashestoashesCleaver
Slipperyslope frowned. "You like small things," he whined, his tail twitching in distress. It was a gift! He didn't want the tiny thing! He would break it, like the last gift he'd gotten....
But Shadeflower wanted him to train her. He had never been a mentor before. But he had trained Shadeflower when she was just an initiate, hadn't he? And he did a good job!
"Okay," Slipperyslope agreed, puffing up his chest. "I am your mentor, new Weed!"
