Littlestar didn't know the newest Janus, Dancingflame had only been a kit when she had been overthrown. She the she-cats lineage, but not much about that cat she had grown up to become. She had found out with a little digging that she was engaged to her grandson Earthquake. She hadn't had the chance to speak with either of them since everything that had happened at the ceremony springs. But today she had asked the young Janus to join her on a herb gathering trip, so that they could simply talk and get to know one another a little better. She wanted to offer her the chance to get out of the burdens Bloodystar had placed up on her shoulders. If she and Earthquake did not desire to be together, she would break their engagment. If she didn't want to be a Janus, she would find a way to free her from her duties. While she waiting on Dancingflame to appear, Littlestar began putting away the megar amount of herbs that had managed to be salvaged. Flurryofstars

Ever since Littlestar returned to her position as leader, Dancinglight felt lost; guilt, shame, and confusion finding a permanent home within her. She was hardly an apprentice when Bloodyst- Bloodycrow cast Littlestar down and took over, but her approval for him had been extremely and openly vocal. After calling the high priestess a murderer and a heretic, and even abandoning her family who felt otherwise, Dancinglight had been rewarded with a mate. Even after SunClan was forced from their territory and attacked by the dead, she still felt devoted to Bloodycrow. And when her doubts finally did kick in, she was named Janus. All she could do then was try to pretend like everything was alright—that her beliefs were steadfast. In the end, she was wrong.
The fact that she was still a Janus made Dancinglight wonder if Littlestar didn’t understand where her loyalties used to lie, but by now someone must have told her. Today, she expected, she was to be punished and at the very least, demoted. Still, as she approached the she-cat, she kept her head high. Only her amber eyes, clouded with dread, gave away what little confidence she had. “Hello, Littlestar,” she greeted with the bow of her head. “I hope I didn’t keep you waiting...”

"Not at all, I just finished wrapping up some loose ends" even though she didn't comment on it,she could tell the much younger cat was nervous to be around her. To be honest, she had every right to be. Dancinglight didn't know her, her intentions, only the vile stories she would have been told by Bloodystar. She hoped to change that, but it would take time and patience. The very things she wasn't sure that they had.
She led the way out into the territory, and only spoke again once they were sure that they wouldn't be over heard "There is something I thought we should speak about" she paused, her feet slowing to a stop to get Dancingflame's attention "I don't want any lies, because what you say next is very important. Are you happy being with Earthquake?"

The sudden question startled her more than it should have. Maybe it was predictable, but like usual, Dancinglight was too busy thinking of herself than of her betrothed. Her ears pinned back as subconsciously curled into herself--a defensive position because this was Littlestar she was talking to and that made this conversation ever the more personal. "I- I-" What could she even say here? Earthquake was amazing. He was kind, patient, forgiving, and more loyal than anyone she'd ever met. Of course, she was happy to be with him, anyone would be, but... Slowly, her muscles relaxed and her eyes fell downward with shame and guilt. "The real question is he happy being with me."

The silver High Priestess watched the Janus' reaction carefully, as the younger she-cat seemed to shut down at the question. She placed her paw gently onto Dancingflame's, "I haven't been back for long, but he clearly cares for you a lot" she soothed, knowing that the Janus might even take her questioning as that she didn't approve of their relationship. She gave her words a few moments for her words to sink in
"I think the two of you should talk about your future, and make sure that it is what you both want. Marriage isn't something that any cat should ever be forced into, especially in SunClan. When you tie the knot, its not a simple declaration of love. It's the literal binding of your souls for eternity, once it is done they two of you will become as one. You will never be able to take another mate, even if the one you marry has passed on. Having them die is just as painful, as dying yourself. It's a pain that is indescribable to those that haven't went through it themselves. The decision to go forward with that ceremony is something that only the two of you can decide upon. I know you were both placed under a lot of pressure by Bloody...crow, but I want you both to take the time to consider your options before deciding. I'm freeing you both from the obligations that he placed upon you. If you stay together, it should be because it is what the two of you want, not because someone is threatening you or even because you think it is what the Sun God wants. If you decide to stay together as mates, that doesn't mean you have to go forward with the tying of the knot ceremony. Many cats live happily as mates and never go through with it"

She tensed at Littlestar's touch at first but quickly relaxed once she realized it was done out of comfort. It was a lot to take in all at once and honestly, something she probably should have contemplated before. Speaking with Earthquake about their relationship was the logical thing to do, but how could she do that when just looking at him filled her with shame. "You're right. Thank you. The ceremony is a lot and we need to make sure we're ready for something like that or if we'll ever be... I'll talk to him." Dancinglight offered the High Priestess a weak but genuine smile as she tried to push aside her own feelings on the subject. Thinking with her heart and mind wasn't something she was accustomed to doing, not after her every decision had been based on what the Sun God--or rather what Bloodycrow wanted. It wasn't going to be easy to free herself from the habit, but she knew this was a step in the right direction.

Littlestar took a step back to give the newest Janus some space to breathe. It was a lot to take in, but she needed to make it clear to the cats who had been placed in this situation that she would not be enforcing the commands Bloodystar set forth. That that choice was now in their paws, not his. "I know it's not going to be easy... but if there is any way that I can help please don't be afraid to ask it of me. The two of you should have never been placed in such a bad situation, especially at that young of a age. I can't change that now, but my hope is to give you a better future. A future in which you can make your own decisions, even when I disagree"

Casting her gaze to the ground, Dancinglight’s ears flattened as though she was being lectured by her mother. She understood what Littlestar was saying and she agreed with the she-cat’s words. The high priestess certainly had more wisdom than she did, but she also felt like there was more to be said. “And me being a Janus, do you disagree with that?” She asked, already dreading the worst response.

"No" she shook her head "Whether it was under me or Bloodystar, you were chosen for a reason. The ancients have accepted you as a Janus, and so will I" she offered a gentle smile of reassurance "I don't know you well enough to pass any judgments upon you, but from what I have seen you are an intelligent she-cat. You put on a brave face, but I can see the fear hiding under those amber eyes of yours. All you know of me is the stories that you have been fed, so I don't blame you for thinking the worst of me. I am not the monster they have made me out to be, but you don't have to take my word for it.All I ask is time to prove it to you"

Dancinglight's head jolted up again, her eyes wide with visible surprise at Littlestar's response. She's not upset with me? The weight hanging over her shoulders dissipated at the realization, but the Janus still faced internal turmoil. If she was accepted for a reason, she had no clue what it could be. She wasn't about to doubt the she-cat's decision, but the wording filled her with curiosity. Why would she of all cats be chosen as a Janus? With Bloodycrow it made sense, but now? "Th- thank you, Littlestar. I admit that I misjudged you a long time ago and I've made a lot of mistakes since then. I realize though, how wrong I was and I promise not to tread down the same path again."
"There is no need for apologies" she ruffled the fur on the she-cat's head with a well meaning chuckle "I have made my own fair share of mistakes, but the one thing I have learned is that no matter how well thought out, words can not fix your mistakes. Only through hard work, dedication, and time can you begin to mend the injuries you have caused to others" she tilted her head up to gaze up at the sun "I am done hiding from my mistakes and failures, It is time to face the new reality I find myself in and move towards a better a future"
