Roseshade didn't fight as she was pushed into the cave, stumbling forward on cold numb paws. The light disappearing behind them as a heavy boulder was rolled over the only exit, so that they would be sealed inside until their marriage ceremony the following day. It was tradition, the two cats to be married given time alone to prepare for the ceremony ahead. The only light came from small cracks that allowed thin lines of light to filter inside, just enough to see the objects and food laid out before them. She hadn't spoken since the God of Light had spoken her sentence and disappeared before them, nor would it have mattered if she had. His order had been clear, leaving no room for interpretation as she and Robinring had been herded into the cave.
Even though The God Borealis had filled her with warmth and pulled her from the depths of the river, now that he was gone the icy sting of the old was seeping into her frame. She seperated herself from Robinring, keeping her back to the stone wall with her tail wrapped around her paws@cleaver
The warrior limped to the opposite side of the cave and settled down on the cold stones. The silence stretched between them punctuated by the echoing plops of water dripping off his thin coat and onto the hard cave floor. His gaze was fixed in the far distance, immutable as ever despite the gears turning slowly within his mind. He had received no treatment for his dip into the falls yet, and he expected none; he had spent enough time vainly grooming his coat, however, and the best he could do now was wait.
Robinring hadn't spoken since they left either; now he revealed why. He leaned forward and placed down the stone that he held in his mouth, the same sea glass she had so persistently denied its existence. With one paw he sent it skimming across the surface of the cave until it came to a rest at her paws.
"I didn't want you to be cursed," he told her. There was nothing apologetic in his tone - it was a simple fact. He lay his chin down on the ground, letting the warmth seep from him into the rock to warm it, and went so far as to close his eyes. His stiff neck and uncomfortable posture were more than enough to alert her he was far from settled, and if she moved so much as an inch in her direction, he would be back on his paws. "You brought that on yourself."

Of course he had that god forsaken stone... she thought, not budging even as it skittered across the ground to land at her paws. She kept her eyes trained forward, not even glancing downward to give him the satisfaction of getting a rise out of her. It was almost as if he hadn't spoken at all, as she turned giving him nothing but a cold shoulder, though she took note of his form. He seemed uneasy, as he should. If he thought she was going to make this easy after all that he had just put her through, he was going to be sorely mistaken. Let him be the one to worry about what she was going to do next, when and what she would do to seek her revenge. For she would get it....
She debated on answering, but its what he wanted. To force and interaction between the two of them. Roseshade had already made it crystal clear there on the shore of the river, he may have won this battle through divine intervention, but she would never acknowledge him as her mate. Whatever it was that he was after in marrying her, she was going to ensure that he never got it. Kits? Ha that was laughable. Power? Being the mate of a witch would give him a slight boost, but would do little to improve his own standings. Attention? Nada. She wasn't going to play his stupid mouse-brained games. Cleaver
He lay there for so long he could have fallen asleep, his sides rising and falling evenly despite the occasional shiver. The cave was cold around them but it offered one small mercy, the heat was trapped in with them and they were sheltered from the wind and snow outside. The cats themselves did not put off much heat but it was enough he was not hypothermic, at least not yet.
Finally he stirred again and rose gingerly to examine the other items in the cave. A cursory glance her way was all he offered, feeling some dim hope that she was asleep or devotedly ignoring him still. He shifted through the flowers carefully, separating and slightly rearranging them before the piles of prey, but he was not satisfied with what he found. In one of the piles he found honeysuckle, tangled and spreading beneath some broad flat leaves, and wrapped it around his forepaw. He had been cold today. Robinring preferred things that way, but he knew he couldn’t continue.
With no diversions left to him, he wove his way toward Roseshade and stood in front of her. His pale eyes lacked judgement, they were more open then she’d seen before, but the difference between one meter of wall and a hundred was negligible. The tom regarded her calmly as the gears whirled behind his eyes. “Perhaps I misjudged you,” he said at last. “You did not ask for this position. Yet you’ll have to face the trials that come with it. So I owe you a single apology. In your youth, you may have dreamed of a mate who would love you deeply. You may want a partner who will support you and care for you; a mate, at least, that you can respect. I am sorry that I have taken that from you.”

Roseshade simply watched as Robinring sorted through the pile of materials, the only sign of movement the trembles that she couldn't quite control as the cold seeped into her pelt. Even as he approached she remained passive and unmoving, at least until he opened his mouth. Before it even registered what she was doing, her paw flashed up to slam into his face with a heavy blow her claws only retracting a mere moment before it made contact with his flesh. It was a clear warning that he had gone to far, She stood, eyes blazing "Don't presume that you can speak to me in such a familiar manner" she stalked to the far side of the den to put what small distance between them that was possible in the confined space with the tip of her tail lashing.
"I will marry you as required by the Gods, nothing more. So go ahead and reveal in this small victory, it will be your last" her tone was harsh, not even trying to hold back her own brutality "Whatever you were hoping to gain by forcing me into this arrangement, is beyond your reach now. I will never acknowledge you as my mate, never bear your children. Clan status? Laughable"
He didn’t flinch as she struck him. His face held the same eerie calm it always did; there wasn’t a flick of emotion present, no micro expressions, no minute shifts to indicate he was shocked or upset or accepting. And the look was effortless. He didn’t fight to erase the natural indicators of his feelings, he made no attempt to control them at all, his face simply did not respond to her at all. If she wanted a reaction, she was cut off.
Her curse had not brought a reaction to his features; her anger would not either.
“Have I asked for any of that?” He stepped as if to follow them, then clearly thinking better of it, he paused. “I don’t need your status or children.” His face was impassive but he made a conscious effort to ruffle his neck fur and let her know how he felt about that particular idea. “I have what I needed from you, for now. I need to be your mate and share your den, but we can keep to different nests. I know what I have taken from you, I won’t intrude past that.” His head tilted slightly. “If you feel differently, then challenge me. Here, now, the two of us with gods as our witnesses. A game; guess the lie, and the winner makes a demand.” It was difficult to tell if he was serious or not.

It was a wise move not to follow to closely, clearly what Roseshade needed now was space. A luxury in the confined space they had been shoved into. Had he gotten closer, the next blow wouldn't have been a simple warning. She kept the surprise off her face, though his answer had caught her off guard. Then why? Why go through all of this effort neither of those had played into the reasoning? Why push so hard?
"I grow weary of you games" a low growl filling the air

"Like you have respected my decisions thus far" she retorted bitterly, holding her ground firmly. Robinring didn't scare her, it more like an irritant. Merely being in his presence making her uncomfortable. She couldn't quite get a read on how he was feeling, what his intentions were or his end game. He wanted to share her den? They would see about that.
Robinring just looked at her, his expression as infuriatingly blank as ever; it seemed unlikely that stone face would ever change again. "You tainted the spirit of the ceremony," he reminded her, "and your god punished you for it. That was not my decision." He sat down curled his tail over his paws, just watching her now.
Still sodden, he didn't look like much, but at least his fur was starting to dry. He didn't feel cold anymore either, more of a sleepy numbness creeping through his limbs and taking him unaware. Robinring did not like surprises, but this one was pleasant, and he recognized only vaguely that he was probably still freezing to death.
He stood up then, arched his back in a long stretch, then slid down on the cave floor again. His chin rested between his paws and his pale gaze wandered through space beside her. "You don't have to be my enemy going forward. We could be allies."

"and you forced my paw" she replied tartly, her eyes still watching his every movement carefully
Roseshade wasn't about to place nice after the stunt he had just pulled. She wasn't going to be some pawn that he could jerk around for his own convince "and why would I align myself with someone who clearly cares nothing for me, Is using me to get obtain some obscure goal, and is clearly manipulative" she could see the tom shivering, and in the back of her mind she realized that he might just not make it through the night. Good, let nature solve my problem for me. He was willing to stand by and watch me, why should I not return the favor?
"Do you care about me?" He didn't wait for an answer. "If we never get to know each other, we will never learn to care. But I will be in your life and you will be in mine; we can make it less miserable."
Robinring's evasion was the only sign he was getting frustrated. This was why he shouldn't bother trying to play nice.
