Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Aspenstar sat on the top of her mound that she called meetings from. Her eyes shone with pride, exactly the same pride that she had any time a NightClan cat had been successful in their endeavors. There was no doubt that Aspenstar loved her clan, which made moments like this special for her.
"NightClan," she called, pausing for a moment for the chatter. "I have called you together here tonight because it is once again time to discuss the newest member of the Loyal Guard. Phantomfox and I have been looking for a cat to add to the guard for several weeks now. With the uptick in apprentice promotions, we needed to bring another cat on. We have discussed at length different felines that we believe would be fit for the job, and together, we have decided that we would like to nominate Larkspur for candidacy for the Loyal Guard." She watched for responses in the cats, before turning her gaze to the feline of honor. "Larkspur, please step forward to discuss why you believe you are suited for the job."
This was a standard procedure. Larkspur would say that she was not a terrible feline, and Aspenstar would follow up with any additional thoughts that she had that she found were necessary for the group to hear. Then, NightClan would vote. These votes were mostly for show; NightClan cats didn't tend to disagree with the selection of the leader and Guard Captain. However, it did provide a space for any NightClan cats who were uncertain about the selection to raise concerns that should be considered. If there was no discussion, or even if there was and it was solved by the clan, Phantomfox would confirm her appointment and she would be the next Loyal Guard.

Violetglass sat with her tail wrapped around her paws, waiting for Larkspur to speak up. She didn't have much of a preference either way for how things turned out today--she would've even been fine with Aspenstar just shoving Larkspur into the group and asking them to deal with it amongst themselves, but Violetglass supposed that Aspenstar cared about NightClan's opinion a great deal more than she did.
Larkspur’s small frame made its way to the front, and she takes her stand at the bottom of the mound from which Aspenstar stood. “Hello fellow Clanmates,” she begins, confident though she felt like she could faint. “I humbly ask to serve you in the form of a Loyal Guard member. I grew up in this clan, even when my parents abandoned it. I’ve fought by your side, and I love Nightclan dearly. I will continue to serve until the day I die.” Blue eyes shine fiercely and proudly. There was no doubt the Larkspur loved her clan and all of its members and she would do everything to fight for its safety.
Pinesimmer had been blissfully absent for far too long already. Soooo, it was only natural that when he finally did appear, he sat himself right next to Aspenstar, where he had no right to be. Somehow, he'd managed to get up there without his sister noticing, or maybe she just tried to ignore him doing so. Regardless, he had a few cobwebs wrapped around his paw... a paw which he quietly shook, depositing the wretched arachnid he'd nearly had a heart attack getting, off of his paw, and not so subtly then rubbing the webs down Aspenstar's back as he watched the spider frantically start crawling up the back of the leader's neck.
"GAG." He leaned forward slightly, making a motion as if he were about to throw up. "How do you manage to find such disgustingly boring candidates, Aspen? Really, this is a new low, even for you. Come on, she looks almost as uninteresting as you. I think I'd rather have Oakleaf's corpse as a loyal guard member than her. It'd probably be more useful, too."
Larkspur flicks her ear back in irritation. So far, no one had any complaints about her becoming a member of the guard. And then, of course, Pinesimmer just had to ruin the moment. Her moment, to be precise. Her blue eyes harden, but that was the only part of her that betrayed her in showing any sign of negative emotion. Taking a breath through her nose, she doesn’t break her gaze with her clanmates. She wasn’t going to let him ruin this for her.
While most eyes were on Aspenstar or Larkspur - or even on Pinesimmer after his complaining, Dawnbringer's vibrant green eyes sought out those of his sisters. Although Duskveil was probably included in the talks, he was still judging her reaction. Occasionally, his gaze would slip to glance at whoever was talking the loudest, but he remained silent otherwise.
He had no strong opinions of Larkspur, good or bad. Despite being born and raised in Nightclan, he didn't think he had ever exchanged a single word with her, or even heard anything about her. Though, he could say the same about most cats of the clan.
It was right around the time Pinesimmer finished insulting their candidate that the tom would find himself ejected from his spot, narrowly managing to land beside Larkspur rather than on top of her. Phantomfox glared down at him from above and spat a mouthful of Pinesimmer's fur out of his mouth. "You talk big from up here, Pinesimmer, but I'd watch what you say now that Larkspur stands beside you. It'd be embarrassing to watch you get your ass beat in front of everyone," he snarked. His ashen gaze found Larkspur's as he spoke, an unspoken permission passing between the captain and his candidate, as well as a bait: Impress me.
And as for that spider... Well, Phantom just thought it would be really funny to watch Aspenstar freak out, so he left it alone to weave some frantic webs across her back.

By some stroke of luck or grace, Pinesimmer actually managed to land on his paws. And then immediately began heading for Phantomfox himself at a rapid pace. Which was a pretty good way to get as far out of Larkspur's reach as possible, giving him ample time to react before any strike would be able to land. He was average in fighting at best, all the tom really had to his advantage was his speed and dexterity. Things mostly learned from egging on others and having to move away before getting hit. "Look who's all bark and no bite." The tom snarked back at him. "You and Aspen are too afraid to fight me yourselves? Oh, sorry, I forget you're both just professional cowards. You can't actually hack it in a position of real authority, Phantomfox, that's why you're hiding behind the rank of loyal guard, right? You can pretend you're actually relevant to NightClan society and then skulk away and shove your battles onto others the moment the going gets tough."
Larkspur meant her Captain’s eyes, the silent words understood to her. Blue eyes watch the Tom’s every move, waiting for the right time to strike. He’d gone too far. The insults on her? She could handle them. But to sit there and allow Pinesimmer to continue insulting her authorities? She wasn’t going to deal with it any longer.
As he’s going off on Phantomfox, Larkspur hones in, preparing her strike. In a swift movement, she comes him from the side, her claws out. She grabs the scruff of his neck and forcefully ejects him away from the leader and the captain of the guard. Her eyes glowed with irritation and anger. She hunches to the ground, ready to strike again if he came near. “Tough talk for an asshole who hides behind insults to cover his insecurity.” Larkspur rarely lost her temper, but she was done.
Aspenstar had been noticeably distracted during the terse words of her staff and her brother. The spider on her back was her first concern, and the very thought of it made her want to puke all over her confirmation ceremony. Choking back the bile that immediately rose in her throat when she felt it touch her with all of those horrific legs, she let out a soft noise as she shook herself as hard as she could. It was then that she noticed that Phantomfox had just ... completely witnessed the event and did nothing to stop Pinesimmer. She'd have to beat him up for that later. But for now, she had to deal with the spider. She flung it off of her with a growl, before stomping on its body about twenty seven times to make sure it was dead. The crunch of its exoskeleton under her paw made her want to just cease to exist for a while, but it wasn't until that situation was dealt with that she could turn to... somehow less pressing matters.
She was refocused on the situation at hand just in time to watch the future guard member fling her brother. Served him right. Although she would have loved to watch Phantomfox beat the hell out of the tom, watching Larkspur defend herself, and in turn Aspenstar and Phantomfox, was just as good.
"Enough," she meowed after a moment, her tail waving. She was fully aware that her brother would not listen to her, and she gave Larkspur a discrete nod that she could continue if Pinesimmer didn't shut his ugly maw. She turned to the clan at large, her mismatched gaze re-focused. "You have heard Larkspur defend herself. Is there anyone other than Pinesimmer that has objections to her promotion?" She glanced sideways at her brother, making sure that he knew the implication of her words: his opinion didn't matter, and for that matter, it probably never would.
"Wimpy actions for a loyal guard cat." Pinesimmer countered instantly, twisting away from her scruff grab, his claws trying to whip towards her face before she got out of his range, though for the moment, he didn't rush up to attack her. "Got it, Aspen, you're just proving Larkspur can't take the heat. But, right, you're not actually looking to lead NightClan. You just want a bunch of fangirls who will delusionally cheer you on. When NightClan goes to hell because of you, don't come crawling back to me to save you."
She ducked away from his blow, hissing lowly with anger sparking out of every bit of her. Larkspur was well aware she didn’t need to prove she could fight, nor that she’d continue to protect her two higher ups. At this point, she was trying to prove to herself that she wouldn’t take the insults. The black she-cat didn’t deserve them, and she felt that she was receiving them only because of her relations to the leader. Pinesimmer was a piece of work. Larkspur also didn’t find herself a fan girl of her leader. She was heavily devoted to her clan, and the leader of the clan, the captain of the guards, and the deputy all were worth protecting. If any of them led Nightclan astray, she’d be the first to call it out. “I’d like to see you attack me then. This is an open invitation, Pinesimmer.” Larkspur was directly calling the other’s bluff. She noticed the skirting around. She doubted he would. And she was ready for him if by some miracle he did attack her.
Crystalpaw's eyes widened from in the audience. "Oh my gosh, are they gonna FIGHT?!" she asked, wiggling back and forth excitedly. "FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!"
Violetglass cursed under her breath. "I should've drowned you in that river when I had the chance."
"It isn't very nice to fight, but I think they are!" meowed the apprentice's training partner, her eyes glimmering in excitement. She then turned to Violetglass. "Also not nice to say that you should have drowned the best apprentices in NightClan!" she meowed with a blink. "Everyone's actin' so mean today," she decided, although her gaze was firmly planted on the duo that appeared to be about to square off. "Who do you think'll win ?"
"I gotta say Berrypaw, I'm not liking the loud one's chances," Crystalpaw said in a loud whisper. "The newbie guard one has some serious gumption, I'm liking it!"
