He hid himself in the shadows of the neglected elder's den, a small mouse in his paws. The newly named apprentice looked rather frustrated at it, his brows furrowed over narrowed icy blues. He had yet to take a bite of it, rather just running the tips of his claws through its fur, kneading it thoroughly. Finally, he sighed, pushing it to the side as he laid his chin atop his paws, his tail curling about him. Weaselpaw was in an unfamiliar place, and he knew it, which was just about the only thing he knew, and it made him rather nervous to do... anything. He huffed as he closed his eyes part-way, watching the camp for any new activity, just to live vicariously through his new clan members.
Since she had been doing terrible with her warrior training lately, Maplepaw had been tasked with changing the bedding for Dovecaper. It was lucky that the clan only had one elder, so the weak apprentice didn't have to exhaust herself and end up in the medicine cat den once again, though part of her wished that there was at least one other elder so that she didn't have to bear the weight of the blind elder's lecture. Apparently she had left a stick in the new bedding.
Now, she dragged the old bedding (and stick) around to the back of the elder's den, unsure what to actually do with it. Even though it wasn't all that heavy, she was struggling. By the time that she got to the back of the den, she was ready for a break to catch her breath. And that's exactly what she did, at least for a second, as she rather belatedly noticed the new member of the clan. Weaselpaw, did she hear Chestnutheart say before? Her new apprentice? With how much time Maplepaw spent around the medicine cat, she shouldn't have had to struggle to remember. "...Hi?" she said, a little awkwardly and still out of breath. Finally, her eyes dropped to the mouse. This was a strange place to eat, but it wasn't like she could judge on odd eating habits.

The dusky tom dipped his head in acknowledgement, but kept it lowered, staring at the apprentice with half-lidded eyes, a look of interest, yet distaste in them. "Hello," he mewed, though his words were hollow, wondering just what she was doing in here, though he was sure she could only be wondering the same. "Do you need... help... with your task?" he asked, his ears perking as he raised his chin to look over her properly. He wasn't one to normally offer, but the thought of being alone again when she was done enticed him. Though something about having company called to him from his subconscious as well.
The offer of help surprised Maplepaw, enough to leave her in confusion for a few moments. It wasn't like this was the first time that someone had wanted to help, but it was on rare enough occasions that it shocked her. Normally, others didn't spare a second glance at the she-cat who spent more time in the medicine cat den than training. Still, she could manage on her own, like she always did. She shouldn't show her weaknesses to others. She was fine.
"I... can do it," she replied, picking the bedding back up. Thoughts of her break now completely forgotten, the scrawny she-cat continued dragging the weight. Somehow, it seemed to require more effort than before, and she didn't get very far before a faint dizziness began to take over. Glancing at Weaselpaw, she shook her head, trying to clear it. However, the slight action was enough to knock her off balance, and she soon found herself tripping over her own paws and landing with a soft thud on the ground.

The medicine cat stood quickly at the sight of the other apprentice wobbling about, unsure what had caused her to lose her balance. He scampered over to her side, "Are you alright?" he asked, bending his head down to meet her at eye level, his brows furrowed with newfound worry, "Can you hear me alright, see me?" he continued, "We should get you to the medicine den, you shouldnt press yourself that hard." he chidded, his usual lack of tact shining through in the heat of the moment. He wasnt the nicest of cats, a cold foil to Chestnutheart's warm method of healing, but he cared nonetheless.
The words sounded distant, as if Maplepaw was hearing it through someone else's ears. She struggled to focus her vision, but it wasn't nearly as bad as it tended to get. She could still, for the most part, clearly see, but some things seemed to be swaying. Or was that her? "I'm... I'm okay," she said, the words 'medicine den' leaking through to her. "I didn't get hurt," she added, throwing in a weak smile for extra measure. Yes, she was even more convincing than normal! She was getting good at this. She was still on the ground, wasn't she? Slowly, the weak she-cat pushed to her paws, nearly losing her balance once again before catching herself.

"No, you didn't get hurt," he confirmed, though his worry still shone through his troubled eyes, looking her over. She was rather thin, frail looking now that he was closer, he could see parts of her that a cat their age shouldnt be showing. She looked... sickly to say the least. No wonder that she didn't want to go to the medicine den, her condition was enough to show she was probably in and out of it by the days counts. "Would you mind me helping you finish your task?" he asked, nodding back towards the bedding she had dropped. "Maybe a breath of fresh air would help you, but we wouldn't want to have to keep working when we get back yeah?" he continued, watching to see if she might lose balance again.
