Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
As the first rays of sun struck into the apprentices' den, Celestialpaw opened one eye slightly. She groans and tucks her face into her tail, but the damage was done. There wasn't going to be just five more minutes of sleep for the lanky siamese. She shifts onto her tummy, looking around the den at the other sleeping apprentices. "luckies" she thinks, tail-tip flicking in annoyance. The feline carefully stands, being sure to tread lightly around the others as to not wake them. That was the last thing she wanted to do, knowing she didn't have too many friends anyways. Celestialpaw wasn't the best at fighting or sparring, but she did kick butt when it came to hunting, surprisingly with her white fur. She makes her way to the apple tree that the apprentices hung out under, circling around and settling down, allowing the first rays of sun to warm her fur. She hears a rustle from the apprentice den, and she winces. "I'm sorry, did I wake you?"
The tom came out of the den with his normal cough. "Nah, not you," he meowed before letting out another cough. "Probably the rat poison that Raggedpaw keeps saying Coralpaw puts in my nest. I'd say I don't believe her, but there was that time at the apprentice ceremony that we didn't get promoted at Coralpaw did get Raggedpaw for starting the poison too early. Who knows if they're just pulling my leg, though. For all I know I have.... what are they called .... allergies!"
Servalpaw smiled sheepishly at her before padding over. His steps were light but still groggy, slightly uneven as he moved around. "Even if ya did, though, it wouldn't be a problem! Name's Servalpaw, I don't think we've formally met. Kinda weird I know, but can't say I do much other than chase after the girls, so I haven't really.... uh.... made friends with the rest of you I guess?" He shrugged. "Mind if I join you?"
Everyone knew about the trio of troublemakers, and Celestialpaw had heard a little bit here and there. She was on the younger side of the apprentices, so she didn't run into them too often either. Her head tilts and eyes widen in slight concern, and she manages a soft and inquisitive "rat poison?" She shakes her head. "Allergies sound more accurate... I think. Honestly I don't know."
Celestialpaw saw the grogginess in his stride, which made her feel slightly better about still being quite tired. "I didn't know you were that close to your warrior ceremony." She admits, wrapping her tail around her back paws, and tucking her front ones under her chest. "I'm Celestialpaw. It's nice to meet you Servalpaw." Her blue eyes examine him, interested to know more about the other apprentice. She didn't have any friends at all, so this was a strange new experience.
"Yeah, sometimes it's best just not to ask," he meowed with a shrug. He had become familiar with his best friends' antics, and as the odd tom out (two was a party but three was a crowd), he'd pretty much accepted that he was going to have to be at the butt of at least 90% of their jokes.
He then smiled at her comment about his ceremony. "Ya! I kind of blame Jetstar and Dancingdragon. Jetstar knew she couldn't promote just one of us, and her illness set Coralpaw back in training a bit. And then someone had to have kittens and that's kind of put my own training on hold. So, instead of being mean and promoting Raggedpaw, which I'm pretty sure would have caused her to have some sort of psychiatric breakdown to be away from Coralpaw especially at night, all three of us were basically told probably next time." He let out a sigh. He didn't really mind being an apprentice, but he wasn't going to let anyone know that.
"Celestialpaw, that's pretty," the tom complimented with a smile. "Prettier than Servalpaw, that's for sure. Nice to meet ya, Celestialpaw."
Celestialpaw blinks, staring blankly at Servalpaw for a moment. How in the world was he so calm about this? And why did his friends want to poison him? She was frankly very confused, but she didn’t want to overstep or offend the tom. Cats chose friends for a reason, and she knew that she hardly even knew him, let alone the relationship he had with his two female friends.
“Oh my,” she laughs, taking in Servalpaw’s explanation. “Well, I’m kinda glad that you’re still an apprentice. This is the most I’ve talked to any other apprentice... ever. Actually.” Saying it out loud was sad, and frankly? Embarrassing. Celestialpaw really needed to get out more.
“O-oh thank you.” The siamese gives the other a smile in return. “I think Servalpaw sounds brave. Like, you’re named after one of our ancestor cats. That’s so cool!”
Celestialpaw stands, stretching out her limbs in the warm rays of the newleaf morning. She was grateful for the lack of chill. Her coat was thinner than she would like to have for those winter months. “What are you up to today, Servalpaw? I don’t have training today. We could go on some sort of adventure. That’s if you’d like of course!”
If she would have asked, he would have told her. The story of the Terrible Trio was simple; Servalpaw had been a singleton, and he had just happened to stumble into the... strange lives of the other two. He made himself their problem, and they responded by making fun of him. It was equivalent exchange.
He then smiled at her, a goofy little smile that was more endearing than anything, in a boyish charm kind of way. "Well, then I guess there's a good reason Jetstar held us back," he meowed, amusement in his gaze. "If it makes you feel better, though, it it wasn't for the other two, I probably would have never talked to another apprentice before you, either," he meowed a little more gently, although he wasn't super good at the whole comforting thing.
The rosette tabby grinned at her next statement. "Oh, yeah. That's me! Brave Servalpaw. Well, not sure that other folks would agree, but I try my best." She was genuinely kind, and her kindness was something he wasn't used to.
"I ain't got nothing on my plate!" he chirped, standing himself with a yawn. "That's the thing about having a mentor who replaced me for a bunch of kittens, my training schedule's a bit lax," he meowed with a wink. "I'd love to go on an adventure with you. Where were you thinking?"
"They are pretty inseparable. Your friends, I mean." Celestial comments. She'd seen the two together. Unless it was a training thing, the two never seemed to be apart. She'd seen Servalpaw with them as well, but he wasn't as at the hip as the two females. "Tell me about them. Tell me about you." Celestialpaw was goodnatured, friendly, and talkative. It was truly a miracle she hadn't inserted herself into someone kind of mischief, she was definitely the type to be involved.
She scrunches her nose gratefully, knowing that her newfound acquaintance understood her in some way. The cream she cat found it easy to smile in return, though rather than a young charm, she seemed maybe a little older than she was. Celestialpaw had long legs and big ears, graced to her by her unknown father. She was almost positive she was of kittypet blood because of the way she looked.
"I mean, dealing with rat poison in your nest seems pretty brave." Blue eyes show a teasing nature, and the she-cat felt like they would get along quite well.
Celestialpaw lightly prods at Servalpaw's shoulder with a paw. "Don't let Dancingdragon hear that, she'll feed you to the rats." Dancingdragon was... intimidating to Celestialpaw for sure. But she assumed she was sort of that way to everyone. "Jetstar has to re-assign me a mentor. I don't even know when I'll train again". She sighs. Her paws itched to do something and to leave the camp. "we could just see where the day takes us." she suggests, blushing slightly when he winked. Celestialpaw wasn't used to kindness. Or attention. It was comforting to feel seen.
"What do you want to know about them?" he meowed with a tip of his head. "Once, Raggedpaw was convinced that she was pregnant with Coralpaw's kits for like... two months straight. I'm not sure that she ever got the birds and the bees talk, but she certainly should have." He couldn't help but grin at the memory; he had been placed in such a strange spot. Coralpaw wanted him to talk some sense into the other, to whom there was no talking any sense to, but he felt bad calling Raggedpaw flat out delusional... "They're... somethin', that's for sure." For a moment, there was a hint of sadness in his voice, but he quickly ignored it. "What about me do you want to know? I don't think I'm a particularly interesting cat, but I'm sure I could come up with a fun fact!"
When she called him brave, he felt his ear twitch and his fur flush with heat. He offered a bashful smile, shifting slightly. "Hey, you know what they say, a rat poison a day keeps the medicine cat away!" He then let his eyes drift to the ground in front of him. " 'Preciate your kind words, though," he then added before looking back up.
"Honestly, you're probably right. I'm not sure why she hasn't tried to at least a couple times by now," he meowed, his eyes lighting up. He had caused his mentor quite the headache in his day, and he would probably continue to cause her one until the day he died. He then had an idea. "If you aren't sure when you're going to train next, maybe we could go out to the field and I could show you what Dancingdragon has been having me work on when she's not around?"
Celestialpaw blinks a few times, brow furrowing in attempts to piece two and two together. "Did... did anyone tell her?" The she-cat didn't find it necessarily delusional, just rather confusing. And was Raggedpaw actually carrying kittens? Her head spun for a few moments, soaking in this information. She didn't seem to be carrying them. She wasn't waddling around like Dancingdragon. The she-cat tilts her head, she'd caught the quick change in emotion. But she wasn't sure where it had come from. "Tell me 'bout your favorite things. Or the things you don't like. Or both!" She grins.
"Anytime," her nose scrunches happily, and she blinks slowly in trust.
"If she does I'll save you." Celestialpaw laughs, though she was unsure of how she would be able to. For starters, she was so so behind in training. "That sounds like fun!" Her blue eyes gleam in excitement. She hadn't tested her skills in awhile, so she would likely be rusty, but she was excited anyways. "Lead the way, Servalpaw."
"Oh, yeah, we tried. That's how I found out. Coralpaw came strutting over to me, Raggedpaw on her heels, demanding I tell her that two she-cats can't just spontaneously conceive." He shrugged. "But, when she gets something in her head, Raggedpaw isn't the type of cat to listen to reason." To be honest, he still wasn't sure that Raggedpaw had ever been pregnant, or if she had, when the kittens were coming, but sometimes, he learned, it was better just not to ask. "Favorite things, okay," he meowed with a pause, thinking to himself. "Well, I really enjoy a good afternoon sunbathe. Sunset's are pretty. I'll never say no to a good vole." Were those important pieces of information? Absolutely not. "Least favorite things include when Dragondance is in one of her moods and she's bein an extra big bully. I also don't really like early mornings. Honestly, the two things pretty much go hand and hand. The earlier we start training, the more likely it is that Dragondance isn't in a super fantastic mood."
He then glanced back at her. "What about you? What are your favorites and least favorites?" Although this could be seen as just a platitude, returning her question back to her, he was genuinely interested in knowing more about her. It was nice to have a friend outside of the terrible trio, and he wanted to know as much about her as he reluctantly knew about his best friends.
He then grinned at her idea. "I'd love to see you try," he meowed with a laugh. Something about Celestialpaw squaring up with his mentor was deeply amusing to the chipper tom. "With enough practice, tho, I'm sure you could take her!" he then added, trying to make it sound like he didn't totally doubt her ability. He then rose, heading towards the entrance of the camp. He waved his tail to follow her, but he was pretty sure he didn't have to.
"More rusty on hunting or fighting?" he then asked over his shoulder. Honestly, she would find he was pretty useless at both, but he surely wasn't going to admit that.
"Who doesn't enjoy a good afternoon sunbathe?" Celestialpaw purrs in amusement, taking a mental note of all the little things that Servalpaw had listed in his spiel. She felt that this information would be good to remember in the long run, especially since they were forming a friendship (she hoped, at least). "I don't think I'd want to deal with Dragondance being a bully either." Was she even more intimidating in a bad mood?
"I like curling up in a warm nest when it's chilly out, and I like the stars. I love flowers." She ponders for a moment for her dislikes. "I don't like random noises if I don't know where it's coming from. I don't really like fish that much." She scrunches up her nose at the thought. She'd hardly tried the scaly animal, but she knew she wasn't a fan. Celestialpaw didn't find the return question as strange or disrespectful. She felt like someone wanted to know about her.
The cream she-cat gently nudges her shoulder into his, laughing. "She's probably beat me up in a heartbeat. And then tear up my ears for being rude." When Servalpaw stands, she follows, stretching out her back legs. Celestialpaw was a very... interesting looking cat. Her body was lanky, her legs a little too long for her torso. She also hadn't grown into her ears just yet.
"Fighting," Celestialpaw answers quickly, embarrassed by that fact. She was a decent hunter due to her long build (she could spring after prey easily), but fighting? She'd hardly learned the basics. The feline follows him happily, excited to be doing something other than cleaning out dens for the 100th time.
He smiled at her faintly as she spoke. This was ... nice. Was this how cats normally felt when interacting with others? Sure, the tom loved Coralpaw and Raggedpaw, but this was probably the first time someone had been legitimately kind to him. Dancingdragon wasn't too mean, but she certainly wasn't kind the way Celestialpaw was being .... "They say having kits is supposed to trigger some maternal instinct, so I'm sorta hoping that she calms down once they are here." He let out a chuckle. It was doubtful, but a tom could hope, right?
The tom made quick note of all of the things that she did and didn't like. For whatever reason, it was important to him to know, even if he wasn't really sure why. Of course, it was nice to know these things about your friend, sure, but something deep within him wondered if that was the only reason he took such a mental note. "I know the perfect place to see the stars at!" he chirped in response. "Maybe I can show you if we're training long enough?" A sudden wave of embarassment that he couldn't quite place washed over him. "I mean... if you want to. If you wanna just go home after we can do that too," he meowed, sounding a bit more awkward than he normally did.
When she nudged him, he felt his heart beat flutter slightly, which left him more confused than anything. When Ragged and Coral touched him - granted normally borderline violently - his heart didn't flutter, so why was it now? He honestly didn't know, but he sort of ... liked it? He let out a soft "hmm" at their embrace, before blinking.
"Ya know what? Probably better you picked fighting," he meowed with a grin. "I've been told that I have the hunting spirit, but that the hunting spirit doesn't actually always equate to being a good hunter." He let out a laugh, remembering for a moment the first time that he had tried to hunt. He had been mostly trying to prove himself to Dancingdragon when he went after the bird, but he definitely ended up skidding through the field on his face. "Off to the training hollow it is! I learned this really cool move the other day. I don't know how much it'll be helpful because we're built differently," Servalpaw was small and lithe, compared to lanky, "but it's all about how to still engage when you're the smaller of the party!"
"Gosh, it's strange to think of her as a mother. Those kits are going to have one strong protector, that's for sure." Celestialpaw was kind of excited for the new kits, though. She thought babies were adorable, and she knew that the bond between siblings was something magical as well. The siamese had always yearned to know her family, but her mother had passed when she was young, her siblings had never come. Her father was some random kittypet. Celestialpaw trails her thoughts back to the present, giving Servalpaw a smile.
Celestialpaw feels her fur heat up all over, and she glances at the ground shyly when Servalpaw makes the suggestion. She'd never felt anything like what she did just then, the skip of her heart and the excitement. "Of course I want to!" she replies quickly, then embarrassed by the speed of her response. She regains her composure and smiles, looking back at him. "I'd love to go with you, thank you for inviting me." Suddenly she could feel how close they were, but she didn't really want to move away either. She was a bit sad when they ended up moving to go to the hollow.
"Maybe I can help you hunt, if you help me fight." She suggests, blue eyes twinkling excitedly. Celestialpaw loved to hunt, she felt very confident in her skills. Celestialpaw laughs, shaking her head a little. "I don't think anyone has this weird build. I mean, look at my ears!" There was no doubt that she had big ears, but that was also something she could use to her advantage when it came to her hunting skills. They acted as little- uh, big- radars, picking up sounds in the brush. "I bet I could still use something out of what you teach me though." She grins, padding her way alongside Servalpaw.
He nodded with a soft smile. "It'll be fun to watch, probably. Can you imagine what would happen if another kitten was mean to them? Dancingdragon would probably have their head." Servalpaw, too, knew the lonelieness that came with not really having family. In all honesty, it was probably the only reason he hung around Coralpaw and Raggedpaw. They were the first kittens that had given the orphan any attention, fixed his yearning for family, even if his chosen family was... dysfunctional at best.
He smiled at how quick she responded. At least now he could be sure that he hadn't come on too strong. That was a relief, one that made the heat in his fur settle at least a little. "There's no cat I'd rather show," he meowed with a nod, this time oblivious to the way that his words sounded. He didn't understand what was going on - Servalpaw, frankly, couldn't tell the difference between his right and left paw, let alone the difference between platonic affection and budding romantic desire.
When she offered to exchange skills, the tom's paws tapped in excitement. "That would be great!" he chirped, the excitement in his eye just as strong as hers. Then, he shook his head. "You're ears aren't weird! They're nifty," he declared with a wink. "Pulus, they're great for huntin', right? Maybe I need some ear growing herbs." He laughed at his own, bad joke as they walked along, reaching the training hollow quickly.
"Wanna do a quick spar? Dancingdragon told me on our first day of training that the best way to start a session is to demonstrate your skill level so we know exactly where to start." Well, that was sort of what he had taken out of the interaction, at least.
She laughs, shaking her head. “Can you imagine what it’s gonna be like when they drive her up the wall? That’s gonna be something to watch out for.” She walks a bit closer to Servalpaw than she might’ve a different cat, every now and then brushing against him at the proximity. She had no idea what confidence had burst into her being, but she was kind of enjoying it.
It was strange to have someone be so nice to her. She was the type to be out there and up to date with everything, but she wasn’t. It was rather strange, frankly. The heat under her fur spikes again at Servalpaw’s comment, wondering if he meant that or if he was being kind. “I hope it’s as pretty as you say. Or I’ll never let you live it down.” She teases, but her voice held laughter. She wouldn’t hold that against him, or anything, probably.
“Hah. That’s the one thing they’re good for.” Hopefully she’d grow into them, but for now they just looked awkward. “I’ll just cut some of mine off and give em to ya. All yours.” She flicks them back then forward again, standing across from Servalpaw in the hollow.
“Yeah! Let’s do it.” Celestialpaw crouches down, ready to go at a moments notice. “Ready when you are!”
He chuckled at the idea, his tail twitching happily. He noticed their closeness, but the tom didn't mind. It made him feel... close to her, but in a different way than just physical proximity. Like her presence made him happy, and like the closer she was the more he was impacted by her shine.
Servalpaw then let out a laugh. "Hold it against me?" he meowed with a teasing purr. "Something tells me that'll be harder than you think it will be," he teased, unsure where that particular jest came from.
He then grinned a wide grin. "Maybe if we just swap an ear for an ear that'll be better? Then you can still keep your hunting skills, and maybe, just maybe, I could learn some," he meowed with a laugh, before tensing and untensing his muscles. Focus, Servalpaw. Dancingdragon won't let you live this down if you lose as the several moons older apprentice .
"Ready!" he called with a nod, giving her the signal to take her first shot.
"Oh, is that so?" She purrs, laughing right along with him. "I dunno, I can hold a pretty mean grudge if I wanted." Celestialpaw at that point lost any sense of boundary she might've been keeping between them, nudging her shoulder gently but firmly against his. Just so he was fully aware of her presence, ya know, like friends do. Right?
"If you come with me on a hunting patrol I'll give you a mouse and you can say it's your catch." The Siamese jokes, flicking her ear back. "I think we'd look pretty funny with each other's ears. One normal one big one each." Celestialpaw's voice catches in her throat, as her mind wanders to the soulmate story her mother used to tell her. Everyone had been split before they were born, and one day they'd find the other half to their souls. She used to tell Celestialpaw that her father was her soulmate, and how much she wished he could've joined them in Springclan. Quickly, she shakes herself out. Pushed that thought far outta her head.
Without hesitation, Celestialpaw springs head on towards Servalpaw, attempting to come down on his shoulders. So far the only attack she knew was to push the enemy front on, in attempts to get them vulnerably to their back.
He grinned at her, nudging her right back. His touch was surprisingly gentle, though, especially when considering the fact that there weren't a lot of cats the tom had ever needed to be gentle with. Something within him didn't want to hurt her, though, so he didn't want to accidentally bowl her over!
"I might have to take you up on that! Dancingdragon would be so proud," he purred, the laugh in his voice clear. His gaze was affectionate, althogh he'd never admit it. Weren't girls supposed to have cooties or something? That's how he had always justified Raggedpaw and Coralpaw's tomfoolery, cooties, but Celestialpaw didn't seem to have any.... "Nothing you can do will make you look funny," he asserted, before, like the dolt he was, he felt a hot flash of embarassment. "I mean... you're right... silly ears..." He blinked a few times, recentering before the attack.
When the she-cat landed on his shoulders, he let himself fall backwards. Although his fighting skills were not... the sharpest in the drawer, he knew it was useless to fight size. Instead, he needed to move with it. As he fell, he shifted all of his weight to his left side. This way, most of his weight would fall in a way that wouldn't expose his stomach, at least not too bad. Twisting, he then offered her a kick of his back legs, waiting for her next move.
She couldn't explain the feeling of butterflies that lit up her stomach at the returned touch, but she liked them. She appreciated the gentle manner of the tom, and the playful banter going on between them.
"It's a deal." she purrs, blue eyes bright and happy. At Servalpaw's words, she glances at him before glancing shyly away, unable to hide the blush that crept over her entire face up into her ears and down her neck. "You mean it, don't you?" she tilted her head, though the question was asked more to herself than to Servalpaw. She'd heard the mean things said about her ears, nothing anyone had ever said had been kind. Until now.
Celestialpaw blinks as he kicks her, a laugh falling from her jaws. "I-- I don't know what to do from here. All I've learned is to use force to knock someone down. So I guess I technically did that, right?" the she-cat realizes she's still standing on Servalpaw, so she steps off of him, sitting down in the middle of the training hollow. "We certainly are a couple of hopeless apprentices." suddenly she's laughing again. Celestialpaw falls back, catching her breath as she lays on the ground. Her stomach was up as Serval's had been moments prior, the residual laughter shaking her form.
Servalpaw looked confused. "Of course I mean it," he meowed, tilting his head. Why would he have said something he didn't mean? Did she think that his friends had rubbed off on him that much?
teehee i'm going to pretend he responded to the rest before this time skip but am 2 lazy
Servalpaw looked at Celestialpaw with a grin. The sun had set, and the duo had been training, or really just talking as they realized they were both about equally useless at this stuff, and it was finally time for the two to engage in their after session plans. "So the place with the best view," he started, "is a little bit of a hike. See that mountain over there," he meowed, nodding to the smaller of the two hills that existed in the SpringClan territory. "There's a little.... precipice? Maybe that's the word? It's about half way up, and you can see the entire world from there! And it's pretty cloudless tonight, so we should have a good view!"
His words came out a little too fast, suggesting that maybe he was a little more excited for this than he expected to be. They'd spent the afternoon being productive, but now he was able to just spend a little time with his pretty new friend. That was going to be nice, and plus, he couldn't help but think that this would be a good first da-... He shook his head. No, Servalpaw, Celestialpaw did not think this was a date. Right?
