Crowkit toddled over to the opening in the nursery wall to see what was on the other side. Ever since he had opened his eyes he wanted to go investigate the hole that often times had light pouring through it. But never until now was he able to leave the nest undetected. He cast a quick glance back at the nest he shared with his mother and littermates. All was quiet. Hearing sounds of other cats, he moved more cautiously and peered outside. Wow! Everything's so big! he thought in amazement.
Frostedkit was sleeping soundly when she turned in her sleep, rolling over to a place she usually wouldn’t have if all of her siblings were where they should’ve been. The grey tabby opens her eyes, still milky blue from birth, though slowly turning the golden brown of their father’s. The she-cat looks around in alarm, counting all of her litter mates. She finds one missing and the fur along the back of her neck stands in fear. Then she spots her brother at the entrance of the den and her fur lies flat again. She slowly stands, going to stand by Crowkit. “What are you doing?” She asks in a hushed tone, sneaking a glance back at their sleeping litter mates. “You’re not supposed to leave the nest alone!”

Crowkit turned around so fast in surprise that he lost his balance and fell over. "I jus' wanna look," he squeaked in his high kit voice. "You gotta see this," he told his sister. "Everything's so big out there."
Pantherclaw shifted her position slightly in her sleep then settled back down again. She felt her kits safely nestled against her belly.
"Come on," Crowkit whispered. "Before Mama wakes up."
Frostedkit shifts her weight on her two front feet, nervously stealing another glance back at their mother. Maybe I do wanna see what’s out there... . The grey tabby takes a step closer towards her brother, towards the outside world and everything it had to offer to the young kitten. She nods and her eyes widen. “It’s so big!” She squeaks rather excitedly, understanding why her brother was so intrigued. She nudges her brother with her nose. “Dare you to go out!”

"I duh know," Crowkit mewed uncertainly. He looked out the door then back inside. His mother and other littermates still looked like they were sleeping. "Mama always said to stay inside." He wanted to obey the rules but the lure of the new and unknown was strong. He decided to turn the tables on Frostedkit. "I bet you wouldn't!"
Frostedkit’s little tail flicks angrily back and forth, her nose scrunching in frustration. Truly, it was quite cute on such a young kitten. Also stealing a glance back to her siblings and mother, she grumbles incoherently. “That’s not fair, I dared you first.” Her golden eyes aim back out into the unknown. She wasn’t going to be the one who got left behind. She’d show her brother. Frostedkit looks quickly behind her again and then puffs her chest out bravely, standing and taking a step just outside their safe and cozy den. “Whoa” she murmurs, watching the camp with wide eyes.
It was normal to wake up lacking the warmth of one of her littermates but Ashenkit felt oddly chillier than usual and lifted her smoky head in time to spy Frostedkit, right before she slipped away, and Crowkit near the nursery entrance. "Hey!" Alarmed but keeping her voice hushed, she gently left Sparrowkit's side to approach her other brother, squinting her eyes to gaze out after Frostedkit. "What are you two doing? Momma will be so upset," she fretted.

"We're explorin'!" Crowkit whispered to Ashenkit. "Look at how big it is out there!" He looked out at Frostedkit wishing he had gone first but it was too late now. "Come on," he mewed to Ashenkit. "Let's go too." The spirit of adventure was having a stronger pull on him right now than his sense of following the rules. "Wait for us!" he called to Frostedkit.
Pantherclaw stirred slightly in the nest, her ears twitching to hear something.
“Slowpokes!” Frostedkit giggles, not knowing where she was going to go first. Everything around her was huge. All she’d ever seen was the confinements of her cozy nursery, and she would’ve never guessed how huge the outside was. The cats around camp were much bigger than she would’ve ever dreamed they could be. If she got in trouble it had to be worth it. Frostedkit felt the ground under her paws, soaking in the rays of sun from the sky. “I’m gonna be the best warrior there ever was!

Crowkit toddled out slowly a few steps and stopped. "Wow......" he mewed as he looked all around him. "Yeah, Ashenkit. Come on out too!"
An unexpected coolness to her belly finally caused Pantherclaw to come fully awake. She gasped. Three kits are missing! Quickly she rose to her feet to investigate where they might have gone then just as quickly she spotted them near the nursery's entrance. Breathing a sigh of relief, she walked over to the doorway. "And just what do you think you're doing?" she asked in an authoritative voice.
“I came out first! You were too scared!” Frozenkit boasts, a cocky smile on her muzzle. That excitedness went away as she hears her mother’s stern voice. The grey tabby freezes momentarily, averting her eyes to the floor. “We weren’t going far mama, just seeing what’s out here.” She sits and shuffles her paws.

"Was not!" Crowkit mewed loudly in his own defense. But but before he could say more, he spun around to see his mother standing in the den's entrance. He felt embarrassed and ashamed he had been caught breaking the rules. He lowered his gaze to the ground.
Pantherclaw smiled at her wayward kits and pulled Sparrowkit closer to her with a fore paw. She remembered her own kithood and how she felt about new and exciting things. It's a wonder I didn't give Gentlebreeze a nervous break down! she mused. "I understand how you feel," she said to Frostedkit. "I was curious about the world around me. I suppose it's time for you to see the camp. But remember no kit is allowed outside the camp. This isn't my rule this time, that's the clan's rule and don't go breaking it."
Crowkit nodded vigorously glad they weren't in trouble. He'd remember this rule he was sure.
Frostedkit's ears perk up and her gaze leaves the ground to meet her mother's. "You mean there's more?" The little tabby squeaks, astounded since there was already so much going on. She dips her head solemnly. "I won't break the rule mama. I won't break yours again either." The she-kit meows firmly, feeling guilty she could've gotten her-- and her brother-- in trouble. Of course, she probably would. After all, she was young and hard headed. Frostedkit stands and rubs her little noggin against her mom's side, purring softly in relief that the she-cat wasn't upset.

Pantherclaw's pink tongue rasped across Frostedkit's head fur a few times. "I know you'll be good," she purred. Then including the other two kits she added, "You can go anywhere inside the camp but be sure not to be a bother to the other cats. See that den over there? That's the elder's den. You'll always be welcome there."
As she spoke, Gentlebreeze exited the elder's den and began to groom herself. "Look! There's gramma!" Crowkit mewed with delight when he caught sight of the older she cat.
Sparrowkit was the last kit awake and he didn't want to be awake at all. The tom snuggled closer to mom, determined to ignore the cries of excitement outside of the nest. He was just as content to be right here, sleeping the morning away as his siblings were to go and investigate everything. Maybe he was the most boring kit ever but he was good right where he was. Until he heard a cry of gramma being near. He loved when gramma visited. Head perking up, his mind was struggling to decide what to do; stay or leave to go see gramma. Stay in the nice warm comfy nest, or leave to the world outside he knew nothing about.
Frostedkit perked up and scampered over to her grandmother, purring like a little monster. The little kitten was rambunctious. That was for sure. “Gramma!” She cries, giggling and stumbling to sit at her paws. “Hi!”

Gentlebreeze smiled a genuine smile at the approaching kits. "Why, hello! My, my," she purred. "You're growing up so fast! This must be your first time outside the nursery."
"Yes it is!" Crowkit mewed excitedly as he toddled over as fast as his short legs could go. He plopped down beside Frostedkit. "Mama just let us come out an' we saw you!"
Pantherclaw looked back at the nest which began to look so empty all of a sudden. "Well good morning sleepy heads," she meowed. "The others are up and taking their first look at our camp. You want to go out and see it too?"
Shadedkit looked over at Sparrowkit and blinked away his sleepiness. "I wanna see it! Come with me!" (I'm going to roleplay Shadedkit unless someone else would like him.)

Emboldened now by her mother's presence and blessing, Ashenkit followed after her siblings, scrambling to brush up against Gentlebreeze's forelegs. "Hi, gramma!" She squeezed in between Frostedkit and Crowkit to look up at the elderly she-cat expectantly, glancing behind her to see if Sparrowkit and Shadedkit were going to catch up, before asking, "Can you take us on a tour around camp, gramma? You probably know everything!"
She grins widely and puffs out her tiny chest. That’s right! She was growing bigger. Every day she would get stronger and every day she’d be one step closer to earning her apprentice name and training. “Oh please Gramma! We’ll be really good.” Frostedkit’s brown eyes look up adoringly at her grandmother, purrs escaping her tiny frame. She felt at ease with all of her siblings with her, and the sun warming her pelt. “Are you gonna come with us Mama?” Frostedkit turns to her mother, tail bristling with all the excitement her baby self could handle.

Gentlebreeze purred affectionately and rubbed her cheek on each of the kits around her feet. Memories of her only litter came rushing back to her causing her to smile all the more. "I'd be honored to give you a tour of the camp and introduce you to some of the warriors."
"Yay!!" Crowkit mewed happily as he danced around in circles. In his exuberance he bumped into both of his sisters causing all three to fall in a heap. "Ha! Ha! Sorry!" he mewed, not sounding a bit sorry at all.
"Let's see if your other brothers want to join us," Gentlebreeze meowed with an amused tone of voice.
"I think I'm going to stay here," Pantherclaw told Frostedkit. "Enjoy your time with your gramma." It pleased Pantherclaw to see Gentlebreeze with kits around her again. She knew her mom had wanted another litter but the opportunity never came. I'm so glad I finally had kits if only to see my mom happy again. But she was pleased for herself too. If only she had been able to convince Sam to join SummerClan. With a sigh, the black queen turned back into the nursery.
