Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Viperstream stood at the border of the clan he called home, the cool refreshing air and familiar scents filling his sense. He breathed in deeply and exhaled.
It's good to be back. There's no place like home.
For the past 5 months, he was confronting a past he had forgotten he had and the cats who caused it. Forgotten wasn't the proper term...it was more that he subconsciously suppressed the experience in order to live something of a normal life. After the PI invasion and the battle that took place in on SpringClan territory, he was reminded of what happened before he became Deputy - a rogue with a strong lust for violence and bloodshed...or so he thought. Personality traits he thought he could never have resurfaced and became more present as the days went on. Feeling that he was a threat to those he deeply cared about, he resigned from his position and went out into the world to find who made him to be a monster, piecing his past memory together along the way.
As he found out, sometime during his travels as a loner, a group of sadistic and twisted cats kidnapped him and constantly experimented on him with various herbs, brainwashing him and turning him into someone they used to attack the various surrounding clans without bringing attention to them, even killing a few cats during his hunts. He was eventually captured by one of the forest clans and held prisoner. Due to the time spent away from his kidnappers, some of his old personality returned and was able to explain what happened to him to prove his innocence. But, unfortunately, the group disappeared without a trace.
After he left SpringClan and went on to search for the group only to find out they had disbanded and went their separate ways. It took him a while, but one by one, he sought them out and killed them, exacting his revenge for what they did to him in the past. Feeling at peace with that, he secluded himself to the mountains where he worked to eliminate his violent tendencies. Once he felt comfortable that he would no longer be a danger to those around him, he returned to the clan he called home.
Crossing over into SpringClan, he made his way toward camp, following a well known patrol path. Hopefully, his clanmates remember him and don't treat him like an intruder.
Maskedknight was leading a patrol, his first patrol since becoming a warrior, the tom's head held high and his chest pushed out in pride.
Behind him Inksplash sighed shaking her head but a fond smile was on her face. She wouldn't deny the new warrior his moment after all.
Her ears pricked as she heard pawsteps coming up beside them following the patrol path. "Hmm?" The scent that she caught was strangely... familiar but it was hard to tell.
Before she could say anything Maskedknight straightened up. "Intruder!" He hissed taking off towards the source.
"Oh fox dung," Inksplash hissed running after Maskedknight.
Maskedknight pulled ahead of his patrol. "You! who are you and what are you doing on SpringClan's land?" He demanded stepping out in front of Viperstream's path.
Viperstream stopped in his tracks before the stranger, surprised that he didn't sense him earlier. He didn't recognize the young tom, but then again a lot must have happened while he was away. Considering this was a patrol path, it was possible that at least one other cat was with him. With a quick scent of the air, there was someone else, someone familiar.
"Hello," he said with a slight dip of his head to show that he was not a threat. "I am Viperstream and I am here to see Thistlestar to discuss my return." Looking past the tom, he could see who accompanied him. "Ah, Inksplash, it is nice to see you again. I'm glad to see that you're well."
Inksplash blinked, then she gasped eyes lighting up. "Viperstream! You've returned!" She cried, she stepped forward. "Relax Maskedknight, this cat is a friend! Viperstream was the former deputy."
She turned to Viperstream, "It's good to see you Viperstream! Everyone was worried when you disappeared in the midst of the battle with the league."
Her face fell, "But I'm afraid... Thistlestar can't see you," She said. "After all that occurred we had to take drastic action to help him. AFter the battle he would not wake up so Fawnheart had to take him and leave him with a healer somewhere far far away in hopes of saving his life."
"We have a new leader now, we can take you to see her." Inksplash told him
The tom offered a friendly smile, but frowned. He was actually looking forward to offering Thistlestar a formal apology for his absence. But it would appear that would no longer be needed. Hopefully, he's doing well, wherever he may be.
He nodded to Inksplash. "Is that so? It would greatly appreciated if you took me to them."
(sorry for the late reply) Inksplash nodded and led him along the main path to camp.
As they entered the heart of camp, some of the cats perked up.
Softpelt, Inksplash's mother and the former medicine cat apprentice brightened. "Viperstream!" She cried hurrying over to the tom. "It's so good to see you again! We feared the worst when you didn't return after the league attack!"
"I'm taking him to see Jetstar," Inksplash informed her mother. She turned back to Viperstream dismissing the rest of her patrol, "She's this way," She meowed.
She led Viperstream to the leader's den where Jetstar sat with another she cat loitering around with her litter of kits, but Jetstar had a small bubble of peace in her immediate space.
The tan and black she cat turned her head towards Inksplash as she neared. "Jetstar, this is Viperstream,"
Jetstar's eyes narrowed as she looked past the white and black she cat to Viperstream trying to recall why that name sounded familiar. "Viperstream... that name sounds familiar." She mewed.
"He was the deputy before..." Inksplash trailed off and Jetstar's eyes widened in understanding.
"Right! OF course!" Jetstar turned back to Viperstream. "Everyone thought you'd died or feared the worst." She said choosing her words carefully. "StarClan was kind that wasn't the case. Care to share where you've been?" She asked tilting her head.
"Thank you, Inksplash, for bringing me here," he said, with a smile, to the she-cat before he turned his attention to the current leader of SpringClan. He dipped his head respectfully toward Jetstar. "Yes, I was once the deputy under Thistlestar."
"I apologize for my absence. I was...," he paused for a moment to consider his words. Although she was the leader, he didn't know her well enough to divulge all the details of adventures. If he would have said that he was out seeking revenge on the cats that ruined his life before, how would they take it? Would they change their perspective of him? What could he say that would be a valid excuse?
Ultimately, he shook his head. "Respectfully, I cannot say. But I can assure it won't happen again." Perhaps when she knew more about Jetstar, he could tell her about it but now was not the time. Wanting to change the subject, he asked, "I take it I have been replaced by someone else?" Of course, he already knew the answer to that question but it gave him an excuse to talk about something else, a distraction, really.
Jetstar narrowed her eyes considering him a moment when he opted not to divulge why he had been gone. Before she relented shrugging and nodding. "Very well."
"Yes, as with Thistlestar unable to lead, I took over and thus named Goldengriffon as my deputy," Jetstar said simply, "SpringClan has done well, and we're happy to have one of our warriors return to us after so long," She said.
Goldengriffon? The name doesn't sound particularly familiar. But then again, he was away for quite some time; things have changed. "Ah, yes, of course. May I meet him?" Not that he doubted this Jetstar's judgement or decision-making or anything of the like, it was honest curiosity as to what kind of cat his successor was.
Jetstar shrugged. "Sure, he's a good cat." Goldengriffon had been younger than her when she'd chosen him as her deputy. She'd wanted a cat with life and energy... and it was good she had! Goldengriffon looked like he'd aged years as her deputy. The only reason he wasn't completely gray yet was because he'd had such life.
"He should be returning from a patrol soon, it'll be good for you to know who to go to for patrol assignments and the like." Jetstar meowed as she led him out of her den looking about for any sign of Goldengriffon.
