Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Finchwatcher stood atop an incline, overlooking the thunderpath that splits Springclan apart from the Loner and Rogue territory. The foul stench of the thunderpath nearly made her gag but her mind weighed too heavily to care about the surrounding aromas. She stared at the thunderpath, completely lost in thought. Flashbacks ran through her head like a fast forward movie that couldn't be paused or slowed down. One memory in particular haunted her day and night and often kept her awake with nightmares. It was the day she went from a strong, admirable warrior to a horror story kits tell on stormy nights. She had lost her eye to a Primal Instinct invasion. Even with all of her training, she was no match for them and therefore, wore the shame. It will forever remind her that she was not good enough to protect her clan. All those kits kidnapped, all those warriors that gave their life that night and she couldn't save a single life...Once a Trusted, now a coward. A tear filled with painful memories rolled down her cheek as she hung her head in shame and regret. Perhaps it would just be easier to end it all. No one could save her, now. She was too far gone. If she can't defend her clan, then what is she other than another mouth to feed? She noticed a monster hurling down the thunderpath. It would be so easy to just end it and save everyone the trouble. All she had to do was step onto the smooth surface and she would no longer exist.
She bounded down the incline and stood at the edge of the thunderpath. The monster she saw coming her way whizzed passed just a whisker away. The wind from the speeding two-leg transport made her whiskers and fur cling to her pelt for a short moment though Finchwatcher hadn't flinched. She was ready and she was determined, her mind clouded by grief. She took a few steps, the thunderpath cold and smooth against her paw. It shook and roared as another monster turned the bend, heading right for her. She stood her ground, facing the glowing eyes with certainty.
Cardinalsong had been out hunting, pulling a face as he neared the thunder path on the border. The ginger tom sighed, he'd been having decent hunting but the trail he was looking for had clearly gone cold. His luck was clearly done for the day.
Then he picked up the scent of a nearby clanmate. Turning in the direction he opened his mouth to call out a greeting, when he saw Finchwatcher bolt down to the Thunderpath.
Confused he began to follow after her. Was there something on the road? Someone in trouble?
Then his eyes widened as she stopped dead just narrowly avoiding being struck by a racing monster. What was she doing?! She was almost-
His jaw dropped as after that close call, rather than pull away she resolutely stepped out onto the thunderpath and placed herself there turning to stare down the oncoming monster.
Cardinalsong didn't think, he took off.
Barreling down the hill at top speed running as fast as he could with all the speed he could manage. He crashed into her the two of them going sprawling across the thunderpath and just barely reaching the other side.
Behind them, the monster had tried to swerve winding up digging into the grass where both had come from, before returning to the road and continuing on its way.
"What in StarClan's name were you doing?!" Cardinalsong shouted after his heart stopped feeling like it was going to leap out of his chest.
Finchwatcher was ready for it. She could see it coming...the end. The glowing eyes driving closer and closer. The way that the lighting set, it was as if the monster had a mouth and it was gaping, ready to swallow her whole, just before she felt her paws leave the ground. She felt herself crash onto the hard thunderpath, skidding to a halt along with a ball of ginger fur. She leaped to her paws and watched as the monster fled into the darkness. The only thing to snap her out of her delusion was Cardinalsong's voice. However, everything seemed to be going in slow motion. She slowly turned her head to look at Cardinalsong. Only...there were two of him...wait, no, three. She could hear Cardinalsong talking but it sounded distant and hollow and she couldn't quite understand what he said. Her expression was blank and unreadable as she looked at him right before she swayed on her paws and fainted. Just behind her ears blood dripped onto the pavement.
(Don't worry, shes not dead xD I figured to make it more dramatic, she could have a really bad concussion and Cardinalsong takes her to Fawnheart and when she wakes up, their whole thing can start <3)
"Finchwatcher?" Cardinalsong repeated trying to get her attention, and gritting his teeth as she didn't reply, and his eyes widening when he saw the blood dripping from her ears.
'That's not good.' He thought bending his head and picking her up by the scruff. He pulled her away from the thunderpath so he could lay her across his shoulders. "I need to get you to Fawnheart, she'll know what to do." He said nervously.
Once he had her securely draped across his back he took off at a run towards the camp. Spot
Fawnheart sensed something was amiss and ducked out of her den just in time to see Cardinalsong racing in with Finchwatcher draped over his back. Her fur bristled in alarm and she rushed toward him. "What's happened?" She asked, giving her a quick examination as Cardinalsong carried her into the den. She noticed the gash toward the back on her head, dried blood clumping her fur. It appeared the bleeding had already ceased but this could be a potentially serious injury.
Cardinalsong swallowed. "She stepped out onto the thunderpath and just stopped. Like she wanted to get hit. So I rushed out and knocked her out of the way. She must've hit the ground hard, and just, got knocked unconscious." He said ears drooping. "I was trying to help her," He whispered. "She was going to die if she got hit... but I didn't mean for her to get hurt when I tried to help her."
"You did the right thing, Cardinalsong." Fawnheart assured, touching his flank with her feathery soft tail. She, then, proceeded to show Cardinalsong where to place their clan mate. "I feared this. Finchwatcher hadn't been herself since she lost her eye in the battle with Primal Instinct. She used to be one of the most elite warriors in the Trusted. She has lost touch with herself and has lost her confidence and self worth. I'm glad you were there. She may not see it now but she will be grateful to you for saving her life. I'm thankful she is here, alive, and we are not preparing for a burial. I will have her fixed up in no time." Fawnheart tried to sound convincing but it was a pretty serious gash on her head. "However, I must warn you. She sustained an injury to the back of her head. That is usually where the vision part of the brain is. When she gains consciousness, there is a chance she will be temporarily or permanently blind in her one good eye which will be quite devastating and terrifying for her."
Cardinalsong's ears immediately lowered when she revealed that news to him.
"Oh." He said softly, stomach sinking. That would be a tough blow to Finchwatcher, he looked at the she cat sadly, before taking a breath and letting it out. He couldn't help her if he just felt sad and pitied her for her fate.
If her confidence and lack of self worth was the problem, being all sad and mopey wouldn't do anything but just make her feel worse.
"What should I do to make her feel better?" Cardinalsong asked. He'd never dealt with not being able to see, he'd been fortunate to never experience losing a part of himself.
