Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
"Hey, I caught a pretty big squirrel on the way back home from the black market," Sean said placing a small scrap of meat down for the two of them to share, "I already put it in the freshkill pile, but I figured we could each have a bite even if it's not even a mouthful. Here, I can even show you how. You just put it in your mouth and then you just let it kind of melt a bit on your tongue before making suck at it, maybe chomp it lightly, but not chew it. Helps savor every bit of it, but it also makes me more hungry so kind of hit or miss," Sean explained as he cut the meat in half. After all he had spent his early moons locked up and starving, the feeling wasn't new, but not one he welcomed back into his life.
"Anyways, it's been three days so we should probably talk over a meal right?" He asked.
Snowy squeaked at Sean.
"What's that? It's been more like three months? That can't be true or else I would be DEAD from starvation Snowy," Sean laughed with slight insanity edging in his tone, it was truly a miracle that some animal instinct hadn't taken over for him or anyone to eat Snowy.
Shule's ear twitched as her head turned slightly to greet him. He'd come back after their last talk, but then between the blizzard and everything else... time had escaped them. Honestly, she was surprised that he hadn't said anything before now. Of course, crisis and starvation made one perhaps less concerned about a marriage, and a bit more focused on survival. For better or worse. "Let's just pretend it's been three days." The Commander answered easily, giving her mate a smile that showed her own exhaustion. Now that he wasn't a Sentinel, and instead a Superior, they didn't work so closely, so the jump from normal Shule, to a she-cat who was clearly worn down, despite the fact she hid it as best she could, might be a bit more shocking than he was used to.
Sean rubbed the side of neck uncertain of what to say. It wasn't like they weren't both invested in trying to be better for the other, but it also wasn't like anything had changed since the last time. Which wasn't either of their fault, just the way of life in the Regime. Even if they did set aside time to talk, he could see it in Shule's eyes that they were both too exhausted, starved too, to talk about anything meaningful.
"I've decided that I want to make this work and if it takes a long time for us to make things work that's okay too. Times suck right now, but when the days get easier again I know we'll both put in that effort to be there for the other in all the ways we spoke about before. My love hadn't faded, it just hurt, but that hurt makes me know it's still there, because it's not numb. I've also felt a lot better since we last talked. It was like I kept swallowing thorns before, but after we spoke that feeling withered away, like there's room now for newer and better memories together. Do you feel the same way?"
( I thought I replied to this, apparently I did not. xD )
Shule's shoulders slumped slightly in what Sean would be able to tell was some level of relief. With the Regime as it was, and the Commander's stress at an all time high once again... She honestly didn't know that she would have been able to handle Sean choosing to leave her on top of it all. Given the situation, she'd done her best to try and make things 'better'. She moved him to duties that kept them from having to be together to the point of irritation as it had been when they'd been sentinels together or for each other. It had most certainly helped in keeping her from snipping at him, when she didn't see him enough to be so nitpicky. The mostly black she-cat leaned slightly, resting her forhead to his shoulder, and just sitting there for a moment, staring at the ground, breathing slowly as she searched for words.
When she pulled back, she seemed more at ease, appearing to have drawn some strength in that silent moment with him, and Shule gave a small, tired smile. "Yeah, I do. When I wake in the mornings, I want to find you right there next to me, always. We'll make it work, however long it takes. The Regime may have hit hard times since our last talk... but every day that I wake next to you since then, I know that no matter how hard things get, we'll find a way to push through. It feels like I've finally pushed the boulder off my chest, and no matter how heavy it may be to move it forward, I know we can do it and get to the bright future ahead, even if it's hard to see that light at times. I still love you, I'm just having to re-learn how to show it."
Sean's head moved over hers, his mischievous instincts restrained by the touching moment, but the temptation to tickle her ear still loomed close. Nonetheless he moved back in time with her, his gilded green gaze dancing in the faint shadows as he listened. Normally he could make anyone melt with a smirk, but Shule's words brought a warm smile to his lips, possibly one that was still a little too cocky. Almost as if he wanted to jokingly agree that, yeah, anyone would be happy to wake up next to him just to get a rise out of her, but again, forced the temptation aside. That was just his nature with her, the stoic girl he wanted to make smile even if it got him a cuff across the ear.
"You're making me blush," Sean said bashfully with a sharp little grin, turning away to avoid the gush of emotions, "That was so cute Shule, thank-you. I want to wake up next to you too," He purred kissing her on the cheek, "Thank-you for your honesty. But while the Regime's still kind of mayhem, should we check up on on our kits? Don't get me wrong, I love you and me time, but they are just an endless source of entertainment for us if I'm being honest here too," He said with a lop sided smirk.
Sean's smile was infectious. Or perhaps she was just in a good mood for once. Regardless of reason, her smile widened slightly with amusement as she leaned close to kiss him back on the cheek as she listened to him speak. "They're much more than just amusing. Sometimes I wonder how we have any fur left after having had to deal with them." She answered, appearing to mostly be joking about their kits. Of course, there was certainly truth to it. "It is about time to see what kind of trouble they've been up t though, isn't it?" Shule agreed to his suggestion.
"Or I could force you to do it," Kotori countered.
Dusky stared at the tiny hole Kotori and him were both staring at and then back down at Kotori who had an incredibly noticeable size difference compared to himself, "Dude, just go in the hole and grab out the rat. It might even be healthy and could feed someone."
Kotori grumbled about if he found a hole out of here he wouldn't be coming back before squirming into the hole and out of sight. Half a second had flown by of him managed to catch and turn himself back around with the rat in his jaws, spitting it onto the ground.
Dusky sniffed the rat before nodding, "Yeah, this should be good-"
Kotori took a large bite out of the rat before spitting it out onto the floor, wiping his muzzle with his paw, "They're making us clear out this rat infestation then fine. But if they want the bonus good of our hard work to be finding some maybe health rats for those stuck up workaholics to eat and we'll get the scraps then forget it! Plus I'm following the rules, I'm not eating prey first. It'll just have bugs crawling all over it by the time its served with that wide open wound. Give a few of them stomach aches, hopefully."
"Does everything always go back to bugs with you?" Sean asked.
"I'M SICK OF BEING GROUNDED!" Kotori hissed at Sean before relaxing when he spotted Shule, "Hi mom."

Commander Shule walked at Sean's side and watched Kotori's miniature tantrum in silence. "The more prey you destroy, the less you'll get, you know." She stated, "And the longer you'll be grounded for." There was a sigh to her voice, not necessarily surprised by her son's outburst, but she did look a disappointed to see Kotori acting out.
Kotori fell silent before reluctantly cleaning up the prey off the floor. He wasn't particularly rebellious with his mom, he was pretty certain that if she yelled at him he would cry. He valued her too much to keep disappointing her so there was really no other choice, but to succeed.
"How have you been sweetie?" Sean asked Zakiyyah moving over towards her.
"I just hope you know that at some point no one's going to be looking and I'm going to take it to walk out of here," Dusky said to his mom, but his eyes betrayed him looking uncertain and shy. For as much as he wanted to be with his family he didn't want to just leave the Regime without saying good-bye. Plus he did care for what his parents thought of him, if they felt he deserved to be punished for his involvement with Bloodystar then he couldn't help, but feel deserving of any hard work he got. He was the free thinker son that Lex raised, but he also was a good boy first in nature, likely getting his obedience from Commander Shule.
"I keep trying to tell Kotori that if he eats a few bugs he'll grow big and strong, but he refuses to listen." Of the three Privates, Zakiyyah looked the best for wear. Maybe because she wasn't opposed to eating the creepy crawlers unlike Kotori to supplement her diet, or maybe it was just because she was the tallest, so in today's work, she was the least helpful, and got to pass off the most annoying task of crawling into tight spaces on her littermate this time around, which also meant she got the least grimy.
Commander Shule stepped forward with a sigh, giving Kotori and then Dusky each a lick between the ears in a rare display of affection. "I'd be surprised if Symphorosa was so careless as to leave you alone that long."
Dusky blushed at his mothers kind display of affection, stubbornly rubbing the top of his forehead slowly. "I just don't think you have to punish me this much for so long."
"That's because Glowstar raised you. I bet if someone put you in time out in a corner you'd equate it to this," Sean mused.
"I'll admit I was worried about leaving Huntleigh with you two because I was worried you would both discipline him too much. But I also figured you were grandparents and it wouldn't be too bad," Dusky thought aloud.
"Hey mom, can I maybe go out in a few nights? I'll come right back, but there's this event going on, it's a speed dating thing and I thought it could be fun," Kotori said casually.

Shule tilted her head. "No one else would do it, so someone had to." She answered Dusky's first comment about thinking he didn't need to be punished this long. The Commander was about to answer his second question when Kotori's words caught her attention. "You're destroying prey, which means you're still misbehaving, and you want to be allowed to go out?" She asked him, her words suggesting that maybe he should have thought things through a bit more.
"Yeah, so can I go out or?" Kotori asked, but seemed to be able to read enough of his moms expression to see that she wasn't going for it, "I can pull an all night and pick up extra chores."
"Or you could promise not to act bratty?" Sean suggested.
Kotori immediately put a paw up in protest, "Let's not demand the impossible from me."

"So long as I only hear good things about all of your work for the next few days, the three of you can have a day to spend however you'd like. If I hear you caused any problems with your work, or that you were giving Symphorosa a hard time however," Shule motioned to the rat with a bite mark, " you ALL lose the privilege to go out. Meaning you have to work together and do well to get your reward." It wasn't much, but it forced them into teamwork and not sabotaging each other if they wanted a slice of freedom. Theoretically, that was simple. They didn't have to get along, they just had to keep their heads down and get the job done without causing trouble. In practice... they were in bootcamp for a reason. They were experts at causing issues.
Kotori immediately turned to Dusky, "Don't even think about it?"
Dusky looked at Kotori for a long moment, like Kotori were some kind of puzzle that he was on the verge to solving before breaking his gaze from his older brother, "Y'know I'm just going to opt out of whatever conversation this is about to become."
"You're going to sabotage this entire thing just so I don't get to go out on a date. Because if you don't get to see Unseenlight's than I can't go out on a date and Zakiyyah can't have fun," Kotori said, accusingly pointing his paw in Dusky's face.
Dusky seemed to look into an invisible camera with a vacant, this is my life, stare before walking away from Kotori.
"DAMMIT! He's totally going off to scheme something, Zakiyyah what are we going to do? Like, I think that if he's going to sabotage us, we need to make the first strike and sabotage him. And then he'll see that he's met his match and back off. So like maybe we should just make a ditch, he falls in it and y'know we line the top of it up with sticks or whatever so he thinks it's solid grounding because we'll put dirt on top of the sticks and it'll work."
Dusky the entire time was pawing to create a new hole to search for prey while still in hearing range of Kotori's entire plan.
"Not everyone is as vindictive as you are Kotori," Sean reassured his eldest son, but drew Commander Shule enough tail lengths away to escape their children listening in, "You know Kotori's never been too well behaved and Zakiyyah's always done what she's felt she's had to do. But Dusky's only acted out once and is largely easy going with a level headed nature... What are we going to do when Dusky inevitably gets out on good behavior?"
His paw stirred in the ground in thought, "We could always take the fact that he knows how to heal and convince him that he can't leave because he has to help support the Regime with a sick patient... We would just need to find a sick cat."
"How about you behave and don't worry about it. If either of you ruin this for me, I'm tying you both up and letting you hang upside down until some sense rushes to your heads." Zakiyyah countered Kotori, her voice surprisingly deadpan. She wanted this trip as much as anyone, and if her brothers ruined it, she didn't appear to have a problem with punishing them for it.
Shule was on the verge of a long suffering sigh when Sean pulled her away, and she rubbed her face in thought. "We can't keep him forever." She pointed out. "I think the easiest way we can get him to stay is if Unseenlights and his kits move back permanently."
"HE'S the one that's going to sabotage us Zak! We need to just let him go into a hole and then seal it shut so Dusky can't cause any trouble," Kotori said.
"Yeah, the name's Harlan Thatcher now, I'm a professional rat catcher. Rats took over the family farm and mah and pops left to find more fertile land, but the Blue Bandits came in and when the rents didn't have the cash well. They paid with their life. Since then it's just been me and Rochelle, my darling gal," Dusky said in a southern accent.
"Uh huh, yeah, I bet Lights will love that you made a character who has a fake mate that isn't her," Kotori retorted.
"Mate?" Dusky chuckled, "No, Rochelle here's just a good companion," He said lifting up his paw to show a cockroach at the edge of his paw. Before Kotori could so much as react the cockroach had already leapt onto his face.
"I DON'T WANT TO LIVE!" Kotori screeched, already collapsing to the floor, rolling around as though the bug were a flame he could get rid of. "ZAK, HELP!!!!"
"Okay well Kotori's pretty good at kidnapping so I bet he can do bring Dusky's family here if you asked him to... I mean it's not like kidnappings beneath us at this point. I mean, it's for a good cause," Sean reasoned.
She was about to reiterate her plan of hanging him upside down from the caves, when he freaked out about the bug. Zak, of course, wasn't at all bothered, and the tall she-cat simply sighed, stepping over to him, picking the bug off with her teeth and biting down with an audible CRUNCH. "If you'd rather die, that can be arranged." The she-cat grumbled around the creature.
Shule's tail twitched. "Wouldn't it be more effective to just... invite them over, rather than kidnapping? Then it's just a matter of convincing them to stay."
