Sparrowpaw had forgotten why she ventured out into the territory. The original plan had been to practice the hunting stances her mentor had shown her. The young apprentice had managed to track down a small mouse. The lithe little she-cat never managed to catch her prey. She had gotten to distracted with the scenery before her. Sparrowpaw wasn't sure where the clan had decided to stay this time. She knew that Swiftclan was a nomadic group. It was one of the first things that she learned during the first few days she lived with the clan. Now it was all she knew. Her whiskers twitched with excitement at the thought of where Beestar would take them next. She had a feeling they wouldn't be staying here too long. May as well explore now before they had to leave!
Her tail curled happily against her back as she trotted along the dense forest floor. Pine needles littered the floor and brushed against the bottom of her paws. The feeling caused her to giggle softly as they tickled her paw pads, and she crouched down for a moment to enjoy the fragrant aroma. It smelt like home to her. Sparrowpaw hopped that they would come back to this place as they traveled. The metallic colored apprentice stood back up and continued on her way. She eventually made her way towards a small babbling brook that crept up and down the hill side. Water trickled over glistening rocks, and small minnows. Her dual colored eyes sparkled as she crouched by the bank, watching as the minnows swam back and forth beneath the surface.
They were leaving soon. Firetooth could feel the tension and restlessness in the air around camp, and honestly, it was about time. As the Medicine Cat padded out of the ditch they were currently living in, he couldn't help the small smile that crossed his muzzle as the flawless blue sky that stretched over the forest, with not a single pile of snow in sight. It was perfect timing for a move - Newleaf was finally here, which also meant that he'd have a better chance at gathering some much-needed herbs before they all set off. Though instead of immediately setting off to search, the ginger tabby allowed himself to wander the woods for a bit, simply appreciating the cool, but not cold, weather.
He'd been strolling for a while when the distant sound of a bubbling creek snapped him out of his thoughts, and almost instinctively he turned to follow the sound. With how sunny it had been lately, there was a good chance he might find Feverfew and Marigold growing along the water. Instead, as he pushed through the undergrowth, his eyes widened slightly in surprise when he found someone entirely different. Firetooth greeted his step-daughter with a fond purr. "Trying your luck at fishing, Sparrowpaw? You'd be better off asking Sliprabbit or Shatteredshine in that case."

Maybe she could touch one... cats caught fish all the time! She didn’t think the minnows would be big enough to really count as prey, but they’d definitely make for some great fun! The apprentice slowly reached her paw out, letting it hover over the water. But she soon became distracted again when she watched all the minnows swarm to the shadow her paw cast on the water. She couldn’t help but giggle at the sight. They were such simple creatures weren’t they? Sparrowpaw tucked her paw back under her, watching the minnows scatter again before she glanced down the creek. Maybe if it led to a bigger river she’d be able to actually catch a fish! Could she get bone marrow from fish? They had bones too didn’t they? But were they just ask thick as mice or rabbits?
Her ears twitched are the sound of her step-father’s voice. Sparrowpaw quickly jumped to her paws as she spun around, a smile spreading across her face. “Dad! I was just playing with the minnows!” She exclaimed as she hurried over to him. “They seem to really like shaded spots because when I let my paw hover over the water they all swam right under it, but then I started wondering if I could find bigger fish further down since maybe this creek flowed out into a bigger river. Which reminds me, do fish bones have marrow too? Or are they not as thick? Probably not, but I bet fish tastes good all the same.” She said with a small chuckle
The Medicine Cat blinked, his brain taking a few moments to catch up to his daughter's excited chattering. "I honestly don't know all that much about fish, Sparrowpaw," he meowed, slightly exasperated at all of her questions. He wasn't a Waterclan cat, after all. How in Starclan's name would he know anything about fish? Firetooth's nose wrinkled at the thought, and he smirked playfully at her. "They stink way too much for my liking." How Chim and Tinybreath could managed to eat them all day was far beyond his understanding, but he couldn't exactly just brush his own daughter off either. He padded up to the riverbank, his reflection appearing in the water as he peered over to examine the river stones glimmering in the sunlight. "The water here's pretty shallow, so you won't find much more than minnows here," he agreed, glancing over his shoulder at her with a smile. "Mind if I join your little adventure downstream, then? I'll probably find the herbs I'm looking for if I stick with you, birdie."

She chuckled as she practically bounced back towards the edge of the river. “Yea, the seem pretty silly too. They hide under the shadow of my paw but then scatter as soon as I move it. It’s pretty fun to watch.” Sparrowpaw explained with a curl of her tail. But when he asked to join her little expedition, she straightened up with an excited glimmer in her dual-colored eyes.
“Oh can I help?” Sparrowpaw chirped. “I don’t have anything else to do today, and Fuzzypeach said I should take it easy with training because I was doing too much again and they were worried I would pass out, but I kept insisting I was fine but I can’t argue with my mentor. Not really.” She said, finally taking a breath from her rambling. “Just tell me what to look for dad, I can help you find it!”
