Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
The patrol was simple, catch some prey and bring it back. But like normal for poor Flawedperspective, she was failing at her task. Every mouse, bird, squirrel and prey had escaped her grasp. The latest attempt had her landing in a bush after trying to scramble after the shrew that she'd just missed. It was frustrating, but the she-cat didn't stop trying, it wasn't in her nature to give up, no matter how much or how often she failed. The only think she'd given up on was finding love.
She thought she'd found it once before, with Indigosight, but it hadn't worked out, the two had separated on good terms and in an agreement that they weren't meant for each other. Then there'd been Funk and the mess that had become. The tom misled her, making her believe he was someone else and she only learned the truth after her mother exposed him. To her, the only good thing that had come from that experience was her three darling kits: Dawninghope, Insightfulcourage, and Truesincerity. Since then, the small family had fled to DayClan, where Flawedperspective had been just as much a failure at being a warrior as she had been in SunClan. Nothing had really changed but that her family was safe here, her mother showed up and became mates with Funk and Glowstar, and many forgot about poor Flawedperspective.
"I'll catch the next one." She spoke to herself, but hoped the others would believe her as well and not hate her. On the patrol with Flawedperspective were Harvestcharm, her adoptive kit, along with two cats she hardly knew; Cloudfur and Foxtrotter. She'd never spoken to them before, or been on a patrol with them, but they seemed nice. Polite at least. Her hazel eyes glanced towards them before finding Harvestcharm to see how he was fairing on their hunt.
"Oh, hey, no worries, Flawedperspective. Your just having an off day. It happens to the best of us." Foxtrotter assured with a purr. "There will be plenty more prey as new-leaf begins. The clan isn't desperate for prey, yet." He moved a few paces away and caught wind of a rabbit. He crouched and flicked his tail to Flawedperspective. "Pssst. There's a rabbit not far. We can work together to catch him."
Cloudfur was nearby, following a little further behind. He had some luck with catching prey, simply because his pure white fur blended so well in with the snow, the prey didn't even see him coming. He wanted to offer some advise for Flawedperspective but it had seemed that Foxtrotter had other plans. Foxtrotter was a good warrior and a good hunter but he seemed to waste his talent with foolish games. At least he was actually hunting today.
She was always having an off day, but she merely offered a soft, sad smile in return for the tom's help. He didn't know her well enough to know that Flawedperspective had always been a failure at anything involving warrior duties, especially hunting. "Thank you. I...I'll try but I'm not sure I'll be much help in catching a rabbit." She approached the cat, unsure if she should really be helping. Her eyes went to Harvestcharm. "Maybe..maybe Harvestcharm would be better help than I?"
Harvestcharm had done a decent job, scoring a good size black squirrel and a scrawny chipmunk that he had buried closer to camp to return to later. He had luckily been young when he moved from SunClan to DayClan, which meant having a DayClan mentor to show him how to properly hunt on the moorlands. He wasn't sure if Flawedperspective was good at hunting in DayClan or SunClan though, if she was she didn't show it. His foster mom always seemed down on herself, it was possibly why he had such a confident mom like Autumngossamer, but he still found himself feeling less then. Feeling cursed was something he shared with his sister Sweetwheat, but his mom made him feel not so alone too. They could both feel disliked together at least.
"I don't want to take your chance at success away from you," Harvestcharm encouraged, his sharp boyish tone drooled with sarcasm, just the kind of voice he had whether he was being condescending or thoughtful. Still he dismissed her offer with a wave of his paw.
SpotFaith aww Harvestcharms is like Flawed!! feels cursed and like he can't be better
Flawedperspective blushed at his tone, knowing her dear adoptive son was making fun of her poor skills. Love was all she'd ever been able to provide for Sweetwheat and Harvestcharm. She had no skills, nothing or worthwhile besides her love and devotion to them as they grew up and she had hoped it was enough, but nowadays she wasn't so sure. "O-oh okay, I'll..I'll give it my bets shot then....."
"You'll do fine." Foxtrotter assured. "Now, you go that way-" he pointed in one direction with his tail, down wind from the rabbit. "And circle around until you are directly across from my position. When I give you the signal, burst out of the bushes and chase it in my direction. Your the most important part because you have to make sure the rabbit doesn't veer off into another direction. You have to zigzag along with it so I can meet it head on. Do you think you can do that?" He asked, sweetly, his eyes round.
Cloudfur listened close by, taking a seat. He had a bad feeling about this. If she failed, it could discourage her. Rabbits were extremely difficult to catch. However, if she manages to help in the catch, it may boost her self-esteem. He still believed there was an easier way to make her feel like she was helping her clan.
"O-okay. I..I think I..may be ab-able to...." Flawedpersepctive spared one last glance with her adopted son, then looked at the rest of the group, they seemed to have some faith that she'd do alright. But really, theses cats didn't understand how awful she was at hunting. Slowly but surely, she made her way to her designated starting spot, her paws twitched in nervousness and her tail was practically shaking at the thought of messing up. The poor she-cat's mind was a mess of what if's and could be's that she was barely focusing on the task before her. That was her major down fall. Her own mind and her own self-esteem. They got her every, single time. "Rea-ready....."
It escaped between Flawedperspective's legs after a good chase. She'd messed it up all from the beginning when she'd startled it with a misplaced paw. The fast little creature had raced towards Foxtrotter, then upon spotting the other cat, had turned tail and slipped between the scrambling Flawedperspetive's legs, tripping her up and leaving her in a pile of limbs on the ground. Blushing, embarrassed and upset she'd ruined Foxtrotter's catch, she began to profusely apologize while trying to get up from her tangled mess. "I'm so so so sorry! I didn't realize I'd stepped on a crunch leaf and and then it-it just took off! I'm sorry! It's all my fault!"
Foxtrotter let out a frustrated sigh and stood back on his paws as he watched the rabbit flee. "Don't fret. It's just one rabbit." Although his voice was gentle, one could clearly see the disappointment on his face.
Cloudfur glared at Foxtrotter as he passed the other warrior, not happy with the way the tom had handled this. He knew if she didn't catch that rabbit, it would have made her feel much, much worse. Once he approached Flawedperspective, his gaze softened. "Hey, don't worry about it. Rabbits are one of the hardest little critters to catch. I've missed quite a few in the past, myself. Even expert hunters miss rabbits." He touched his feathery tail to her shoulder. "Not every warrior is cut out to be a hunter, you know. Some warriors are best in battle, others are best at caring for kits or helping the medicine cat. Each of us has one skill that is much more powerful than the rest." His voice was deep, like a roaring thunder but yet soothing, like a gentle storm to lull a warrior to sleep. "I'm sure whatever skill is more powerful in you, is one that is the greatest and sets you apart from the rest. You don't have to be the greatest hunter to provide for your clan. You already do plenty." He finished his pep talk with a warm smile.
Harvestcharm dug up his piece of kill seeing that his mom hadn't caught the rabbit. No one had ever really engaged with his mom before, trusted her enough to actually set her up with the possibility to succeed. He wasn't the type of person to want or feel a need for a soul mate, but his mom was one of those people. Maybe Foxtrotter wouldn't be such a bad match for Flawedperspective. Looking up he saw Cloudfur by Flawedperspective, "Hey, I think we still have enough, let's head back!" He called out to them, unable to hear their conversation.
Did they have a graveyard here? Maybe she could do as she'd done in SunClan and tend to it? It was all she'd ever felt she was good at and the she-cat honestly doubted they'd find that useful. She wasn't even good at raising her own kits and keeping her family together! Sure that wasn't completely her fault, but she felt like it was! Flawedperspective nodded her head, a sad smile in her lips she hoped would appease the tom before her. "Thank you." Maybe he'd take pity on her like some many others had, but even then, she was sure it wouldn't last long. It never did. That pity usually turned into frustration and then anger as they gave up on her, it never failed. Her soft eyes turned to her adopted son, "do you need help carrying?" It was the least she could do, better than nothing, espeically since she hadn't managed to catch anything in the first place.
"Oh, no, I don't want to make you carry anything mom," Harvestcharm reassured her.
He hadn't wanted her to carry his prey back since she was his mom. If she caught something he would make sure to carry it back to camp for her, it was just the respectful thing to do. But he realized his mom was probably asking so that she could feel she had contributed helpfully in someway. Wincing at his error he could feel a gut wrench of guilt for not letting her take the prey back. Now if he went back on it she would know he was just giving it to her out of pity so he couldn't even go back on his mistake!
Entering back into camp he had felt guilty the whole walk, but was excited to at least tell Sweetwheat about Foxtrotter. Sweetwheat never seemed to look at Flawedperspective as a second motherly figure like he did, but hopefully she'd help because he cared about this. Placing the prey down he spotted his sister in the back. Taking a look back at his patrol members to make sure they were all still there he quickened his pace over to his sister.
"Sweetwheat," He whispered before wondering why the heck he was whispering. The patrol was way out of earshot by now, "Um," He said a bit awkwardly before adding, "Okay so y'know how Flawedperspective can be kind of um..." He snapped at his claws trying to think of a word that wasn't pathetic. This is what he got for being a negative pessimist all the time, never having the ability to sugar coat or have an inch of positivity, "Unique." He decided on, "And um. I found someone for her! I think Foxtrotter and her would be a great pair. Fox insisted she hunt with him, even taught her a bit. I mean, she missed the rabbit and he was disappointed, but the two have potential," Harvestcharm explained, of course behind him he had no clue of the affection Cloudfur was showing Flawedperspective
Harvestcharm's approach brought a smile to her face before he had even finished crossing the camp. She sat up with a little purr of welcome. "Hey, Harv," she greeted, then fell silent, listening carefully to what he was trying to say. Just because Foxtrotter wanted to hunt with Flawedperspective didn't mean he liked her. She hunted with cats all the time, it didn't mean much, especially when they were as clumsy as the former SunClan cat could be. But then again, not every cat went out of their way to help Flawedperspective of all cats, did they? Maybe it did mean something . . . or at least something could start between them if they tried hard enough.
"Okay," Sweetwheat considered, "what do you want to do about it?"
"I could use some help carrying back prey" Cloudfur responded quickly. "I could use the extra paws. Besides, it wouldn't look as if you were coming back into camp empty pawed." He passed her a couple squirrels he had caught earlier while carrying a bird and a mouse himself. The rest of the way back to camp, both toms were rather silent, though, Cloudfur stayed close to Flawedperspective. He felt bad that she didn't catch anything but he didn't pity her. She just had to find her place in Dayclan, that was all. She had a lot of potential if she didn't hold herself back. When they reached camp, the patrol distributed their prey at the pile. "Although you had bad luck today, you did well and I appreciate the effort you put in today." He mewed to Flawedperspective before dipping his head in farewell and walking away.
Foxtrotter placed his catches on the pile. "Good try today, Flawedperspective. Perhaps next time you will catch something." He then proceeded to prance away, tail held high in pride for a good day's catch.
CleaverFaithSpot no worries! Also Flawed is kind of like Toharu from fruits basket in her demure and faith in others to do good lol I just realized that
Flawedperspective smiled, this time more soft and thankful to help than the sad one she'd given the tom before. She heard the pity though in his words of "....Besides, it wouldn't look as if you were coming back into camp empty pawed." But, she'd take it. He wasn't meaning them in a harmful way, she was sure. The tom seemed kind and he spoke kind words, but still, she couldn't bring herself to be comforted by it too much. Many in the past had acted the same way, kind, soft, and helpful, trying to teach her and help her and all of them left eventually. The question was, how long would he try. Flawedperspective, pretty and soft and too kind for this world, would just accept the time she did get from the tom though. Friends came and went, right? She picked up the squirrels, not questioning the pity or the kindness behind it, merely grateful to help in some way. She kept her head down though on the way back, not speak anymore than anyone else. At the fresh kill pile, she nodded her head, a soft, pleased smile on her face. "Good work everyone. I hope we can work together again soon!" Her words were honest, and she prayed that she'd be of more help next time it all came around. The she-cat, lonely as can be, was always appreciative of any time spent with clan mates. Her eyes drifted to her two adopted children nearby, but she assumed they wouldn't want her disturbing them and respected that Sweetwheat didn't see her as a mother. So her paws carried her elsewhere. Maybe she would go out to the White Tree and spend time there reflecting on her life? Or she could wander the cadence valley for a while? Anything seemed better than forcing her time on another, even her own kits. If they wished to spend time with her, or needed her help, she'd happily give it at the drop of a feather, but she would never force a cat to spend time with her. Paws carrying her back towards the entrance to camp, the she-cat glanced back at her kits one last time. Never once did her smile falter though, even if it was sad now more than anything else. She's keep smiling, no matter what, because everyone deserved to be smiled at.
Harvestcharm drummed his toe beans across his other leg as he hummed out in thought, "Well," He began, his lily pad green gaze locking onto Cloudfur, "For starters we need to get rid of that guy. Like c'mon dude, you're practically breathing down her neck, give her some space. After he finally stops talking to her we can encourage her to ask Foxtrotter out. And when that inevitably fails we'll just ask him. It doesn't have to be complicated or secretive, if they actually are into each other it'll just happen," He shrugged, "We're just giving our mom an extra push since she uh... Constantly relies on someone pushing her forward or around as sad as that is."
