ashestoashes the Funk and Regulus thread It was an interesting selection process. Funk wouldn't admit that it relieved him that none of his proxies wanted to step up. He wouldn't have looked forward to finding replacements for them. Well, except for Senescence. Agamede may as well have been proxy, but that didn't really matter now. But now that they had decided and he finally had a warden, he quickly realized he had no clue what to tell Regulus to do. It was his own fault, Funk was a workaholic. So used to carrying the whole load he felt empty handing off even the smallest of things to others. The havoc of things falling apart exhausted him more until his body started to give out.
His paws were bleeding again this morning, one particularly sharp stone finally cutting the thickening skin. The cobwebs were all but gone, so he had to make do with the few leaves around from fall and a really worn piece of moss. It was warming up, finally letting the League not shiver in their dens all day. So when he saw the warden, a lump formed in his throat. The other tom must have been frustrated with him, or at least he figured. Funk didn't mind if he was, but for the sake of his aching joints, he waved the warden over. "Regulus... What do you suppose a warden's duties are?" The bengal asked, curiosity laced in his tone as big green eyes stared up at Regulus.

To be honest Regulus was pleasantly surprised to have had Funk ask him to be the new warden. Sure he had been in Primal Instinct for a short bit and knew he had been doing decently well as a hunter but to be asked by the Nemesis to be a warden was the last thing he had been expecting. Since he had been promoted the tom hoped to make a decent impression on Funk and at least seem reliable to the leader. Walking over the dark tom looked at the Nemesis making sure to look him in the eye when he talked. "Well the warden should help the nemesis and help Primal Instinct thrive and survive. Someone who is capable and not a complete babbling idiot. Do what you need me to do and be reliable enough to trust me to take care of things. I have a rough idea of what you expect from me and I'll do what I can for you." Times were tough but he was determined to help turn things around. "So Funk, what do you want from me at this moment?"

It was the answer Funk expected, tail tip tapping on the ground as the other tom spoke. Regulus was that kind of classic, old school and devoted tom. It reminded him of a deputy, all the right answers without any of the violence the league was used to. He was a good antithesis to the nemesis, perhaps a breath of air to those tired of Funk's shenanigan's.
The other staff had all their own vices. What they struggled with. Even Mr. Perfect Shina had a few secrets. Funk's lip quirked up, the telltale sign he had something up his sleeve. "We can walk and talk and all that in a bit." Funk broke the eye contact first, pulling a few strands of grass out to tie his bandage on tighter, "Solid answers and all, but allow me to poke your brain a bit more. It's important to know your successor after all. So let's see... if you could do anything you wanted just one time, and get away with it scot free, what do you think you would do now?"

Now that was a good question...what would he do? It actually took Regulus a short before coming up with an honest answer. "I would try to convince the rouges and loners around here to join us or work with us. If they refuse, and as you say could get away with it scot free, I'd find a way to get rid of them. Perhaps make them disappear or straight up slaughter without fear of consequences. I don't care but I'd want to make sure I'd get what I want. And what I want right now is for everyone to get taken care of around here. Including you." The warden nodded towards the bandage the Nemesis had. "Plus it wouldn't be all that bad to have extra prey around when I or anyone else wanted. So I'd get rid of the competition in anyway I want and could do." Honestly all the tom wanted was followers that would be behind him...some expendables in case he need them. Not that he would say that outloud of course.

He was pleasantly surprised Regulus didn't have an immediate answer. Or if he did, that he played it off like he didn't. One of Funk's claws toyed with a particularly long hair on his chin until his Warden spoke up. And Funk listened, eyes wide like he hung onto every word. After watching his wife do it so much, he had gotten better at giving others the idea they were the only ones in his world. Or at least seem too.
Funk let the silence sit for a moment as he thought before nodding. "Not a bad answer in the least bit. Maybe an overly practical one, but I think that's why we'll work well." He was a more selfish cat. If he could get whatever he wanted, it would surely end in more cats for him to study and torture. That was how he worked. "I am a little surprised no revenge or the like was mentioned. It's not like this is a test."

"It's all situational of course but currently I have no desire for revenge nor does anyone have revenge to get from me. See I dislike letting things sit and settle...to fester and grow and become problematic later. I like tackling things head on and dealing with them at that time. If its possible of course. If there was ever a problem it was either taken care of in a mutal peaceful manner or they are dead. I don't like beating around the bush with any enemies I have. Now that I'm in PI now and a warden I'll probably have to be more....methodical with my movements. Still if I want revenge I may get it. Again its all due to situational and circumstance. But what about you Funk? Do you have any revenge you wish to seek?" Regulus tilted his head to the side in curiousness. The leader of PI was one that Regulus found rather intriguing and fascinating. By comparison Funk definitely was more lively than Regulus whom was a stiff no nonsense cat about business. Then again that's all Regulus knew from his prior life before PI...he would learn alot from living in this group.

Funk had a harder time containing his laughter this time. It was exactly what he expected yet not at the same time. He almost wasn't sure the cat in front of him was real, and tapped Regulus' paw with the rounded side of his claw to be sure. Yep, solid. How did he manage not to burst a blood vessel with how tense he was? Funk was curious.
Of course, when the conversation turned back to end, he let the idea go. For now. Who knows. Maybe Regulus would loosen up over time, he couldn't be sure. "Yes and no. You're so straight to the point, it doesn't sound like any fun. I like dragging things out, seeing who looses their nerve first. Of course, it hasn't been me yet. I like to stack the deck in my favor, after all. Of course, some classic revenge against those that have slipped away would be nice. Littlestar, Doestar, that little grey boy running for his life all that time ago... It's good you're focused. You'd end up with a lot of enemies if you acted like me."

He wasn't sure why Funk had been poking him but didn't say anything about it. Maybe that was just how is thinking process was? Instead Regulus gave a small nod. "I mean not to butter you up but you seem to have been a good leader to have lead the group to where they are now. From what I understand you have been a leader for this group for a while so you must be doing something right." The large tom paused before adding with a grin, "This may not come as a shock but you aren't the only one that's told me I'm a rather boring individual. What's surprising is the amount of times I have been told I am boring. Am I truly so boring it's dripping in obviousness?"

It was the process. Funk was never good at sitting still. Point proven when he found something else to fiddle with. This being the frayed ends of a dying plant he had to stretch to reach. Any other Nemesis may worry about some sort of assassin coming to get at his exposed stomach, but the carefree tom didn't even seem to think this thought.
Twas sad the plant was dying, choked out by the weeds all around it. If he didn't have this injury, he'd dig it up and replant it. But even that felt like too much work. His ears craned back to Regulus, choosing to turn back around to him. "Some may say that. Or maybe everyone realized they would do it worse than I could." Funk paused, letting the words soak into the air for a moment before he spoke again, " 'Course now that's changed. But that's a boring conversation and I've had enough of those for one lifetime. When you're stoic, it's easy for others to see you as boring. You seem a bit high strung, but let's see if that really holds up." Before Regulus could insist otherwise, Funk stood up and began walking. He didn't look back for Regulus, expecting the Warden to follow him without a word.

The warden did pause a moment before getting to his paws following the nemesis. Funk was indeed an interesting leader who didn't seem to be afraid to speak what was on his mind. Or how he chose to act. Regulus noticed Funk's paws with a note of light curiosity to his voice, "Need any help by chance Funk? I can get you something if you need it for pain." He knew a cat or two who owed him and could at least get a small dose of pain relief to help the nemesis. Was he buttering him up? Sure he would do what it would take to make sure Funk was happy. He wasn't a lapdog exactly. No he was too good to be that, but to keep being on the leader's good side was rather a smart thing to do.
