Tiny paws padded through the thin layer of snow on the ground, pads aching from an impressive journey for someone so young. Thanks to an unwise field trip to the main gathering place via some nursery aids, more than half the way he'd been carried by the nape, but even slipping off on his own made the current walk difficult. Nettlekit had no clue where he was. Choosing to adventure into the forest clans was his original plan, but he was hoping to have stumbled into another cat by now. One of the magical ones he knew had to live here. They just had to!
He tried his best to be quick about it too, knowing that it was only a matter of time before the adults noticed he was gone. It never crossed his mind that he might run into trouble along the way. Finding out the truth was far more important. Feeling energized by fresh determination, Nettlekit began to pounce through the forest like an ungraceful rabbit, unaware of a sheet of ice just up ahead. The instant he landed on it, he lost his footing and slid on his side off the edge of a hill. Squealing in surprise, he curled into himself as he tumbled down and eventually fell sprawled out at the bottom. "Owww," he groaned.
Suddenly, teeth gripped around Nettlekit's tail, dragging him into a nearby bush. Before Nettlekit could get out a single word, his jaws were closed shut by a couple of snow white paws. "Shhh!" Was all he heard from the mysterious white kit as she peered between the branches of the bush with the bluest eyes he had ever seen. She seemed to be holding her breath as she was trying to keep as quiet as possible. A few moments later a coyote came sniffing around the bush. The white kitten closed her eyes as if that would help make her disappear. A low growl came from the beast as its nose crept close to the two kittens.
Right before it could get to them, a high pitched howl echoed through the trees and reached the furry ears of the coyote. It seemed to be another coyote calling for him. In an instant, the coyote forgot all about the kittens and retreated, kicking up snow in his wake. Once the last of the coyote had disappeared the little white kitten let out a long sigh of relief. She released the tom's muzzle and turned a cold glare at him. "Hey pea brain, were you trying to get yourself killed?" She squeezed out of the bush and gave herself a good shake, followed by a quick wash to groom down her ruffled fur.

The sudden assault had his claws unsheathing instantly, but as he twisted around to defend himself, emerald eyes met sapphire and he stilled. The she-kit could have been formed from the snow itself with her pure white pelt, but the sense of urgency to her actions grabbed his attention. Following her cue, he stayed quiet, not that he had much choice with her paws around his muzzle. She was acting strange, like she was afraid of something. It kind of reminded him of playing hide n seek--when the tiniest sound could reveal all--but there was more intensity now. Suddenly, her eyes closed and Nettlekit's head whipped around to peer outside the bush. Hot breath crept through the branches and his heart dropped to his stomach.
He stayed frozen even after the coyote left and after she released her hold on him. Only the insult broke whatever spell had been put on him. Pea brain? Scoffing indignantly, he poked his head out of the bush to glare back. "I could ask you the same question! What are you doing out here anyway?" He should have been groveling at her paws in thanks, but he was a little embarrassed and not thinking straight. After all, he wasn't supposed to be out here either.
She paused in her grooming and turned to look at him with her intense blue eyes. "That's none of your business." She fired back with a huff. "Wait..." She sniffed the air, stepping closer to him and giving him a good whiff. "Your not from around here, are you? I've certainly never seen you in Dayclan and I don't recognize your smell." Not that she really knew what the other clans smelled like considering this was only her third attempt to sneak out and find her birth parents. She always seemed to get caught. Though, it wasn't like Dayclan was very good at keeping her confined in camp anyway. The other queens had their paws full with their own kits. "Who are you? What is your name and where are you from?" Her voice was curious, yet cautious.

“DayClan, huh?” He wondered aloud, his bristling fur already beginning to relax. So that’s where he ended up then... He thought that over for a moment before a goofy grin flashed across his face. If he was in DayClan, then he was already on the right path. For a while there, he was worried he’d somehow missed walking into any of the Forest clan territories, so this was definitely reassuring.
The pressure of her scrutiny caused him to act a little more brave and a lot less quiet. It was if as though he didn’t want her to look down on the whole of his clan just from whatever her first impression of him was. So, he puffed out his chest with pride and answered, “I’m Nettlekit and I’m from FallClan! Have you heard of it?”
"Fallclan?" She thought for a long moment as if trying to recall that clan. It wasn't any of their neighboring clans. "I've heard of other clans but they are quite a distance away. How did you make it all this way alone?" She seemed fascinated. She's never made it passed the Dayclan border before. How did a kit close to her age travel that far? He must have been looking for something very important.

Nettlekit wondered for a moment if he should tell her about his clanmates bringing him more than halfway there, but he felt like he needed to convince her that he was more than his first impression supplied. "I walked of course! Is it really so far? I hardly noticed." He went to flash her a grin but faltered. So far, she'd been avoiding his questions and he still didn't even know her name. Now regretting how easily he revealed information about himself, he stepped closer, squinting down his nose at the she-kit. "So who are you?"
She narrowed her bright blue eyes, clearly not enthused by his boasting on the distance he managed to travel but she did not flinch as he took a step closer. "My name's Frozenkit. I'm from...well...I live in Dayclan. I'm not much for back stories but I'm not really from Dayclan. They found me abandoned on their territory and took me in. Not a single clue leading up to where I came from." She shrugged. "Oh well! I guess since you've come all this way, it would be rude for me not to give you a tour. So that if/when they catch you, at least you'll have a story to tell when you get back home, hm?"

"You were abandoned?" he asked before he could stop himself, and while his curiosity was clear in his expression, he tried to pretend like he didn't say anything at all. Instead, Nettlekit allowed himself to light up at her offer of a tour. "Yes. You have to give me a tour! I didn't come all this way for nothing." He performed a small hop before he walked over to her with more restraint on his enthusiasm. If there really were cats with powers in the forest, this was his moment to find out.
She ignored his previous question and continued on with a nod. "Well, obviously this is Dayclan. As you can see-" she cut off and froze. The smell of Coyote's hitting her nostrils. "Oh no! They're back!" She turned to see the pack gaining on them. "Hurry! Run!" She took off into a run but they had entered the flat land. There was no cover and they couldn't hide. The snow froze the usually tall grass to the point they were withered and droopy. They couldn't even crouch in hopes to be covered by tall grasses like they would if it were green leaf. There was nothing else she could do. She had to think and think fast. The fear made her paws frost over and she knew what she had to do even if it risked revealing her powers. She tackled Nettlekit to the snowy ground. After they skidded to a halt, ice began to form, creating a protective ball of ice around them. It sealed them in at the top with a small air hole and the coyotes halted, confused looks on their faces as they sniffed around the ball that the kits were hiding in. They scratched and clawed at the ice ball but to no luck at breaking it. With frustrated growls, they retreated.
Frozenkit released Nettlekit, panting. "That was too close. Those dang coyotes! We're lucky we are alive!" She hadn't even mentioned the fact that she had just conjured ice into a protective ball around the two of them.
