( "The ritual for promotion from Initiate to Warrior/Senator." - The SunClan Guide
If you would like your cat to participate in the ritual, please feel free to join in! Make sure to describe the appearance of your characters' sunflower, and include a note as to whether they pass, fail, or escape.
If you'd like to create a cat to pass, apprentice age or up, and rp it as if they deserted DC/SPC feel free! Alternatively, feel free to create an escapee, of the aforementioned ages, if you'd like to jump in with a new character for the captured clans! If you create a character to add to SunClan, DayClan, and/or SpringClan, please be sure to add them to the appropriate joining threads. This is a great way to have a fun start to your character's backstory!
If you have an Initiate, you DO NOT have to have your cat join in, as they can join in another trial on a later date, or 'escape' when their clans are released from captivity. c:
Note: The Initiates DO NOT know that they'll die if they fail. Also, there are many different varieties of sunflowers! Feel free to look them up to find a unique appearance for your characters.
PASS - Your cat must be 100% loyal to SunClan. Meaning, they will not return to DayClan/SpringClan once the plot is over, don't have any intentions of betraying the clan, will take on an entirely new warrior name of your choosing, and from now on, will become considered as if they were a purebred SunClan cat.
WHEN CHOOSING THIS OPTION: Please include their new name and rank within SunClan. Apprentice, Warrior, or Senator. Apprentices/Warriors are normal ranks, and any current Initiate apprentice may choose to take on a warrior name, REGARDLESS of age. Senators are a Senior Warrior/Elder equivalent, and are the clan's peacekeepers/advisors. Make sure to put their bio on the joining thread, with their new name/rank, so they can be added to the page. By choosing this option, your cat has abandoned their old home entirely, and serves only SunClan and it's deity. Also, feel free to join in SunClan's Winter Festival here: THE SOLSTICE
FAIL - Your cat has ill intentions with wanting to join SunClan. Maybe they're not entirely convinced the Sun God is the deity they want to worship, or they just want to join in order to sell such information to their original clan, or any other clan at all for that matter. Either way, they're not 100% loyal, and as such, they're deemed traitors and liars, and are executed.
WHEN CHOOSING THIS OPTION: By choosing this option, you agree for your cat to be killed. They will not escape their fate, and will be sent, by the Sun God, to the Dark Forest. If you do not wish for your character to stay permanently in the DF, please send me a message, and I can create a private thread for those characters.
ESCAPE - While everyone is choosing sunflowers, your cat has taken advantage of the lack of guard and darkness of the Winter Solstice to slip away and escape captivity. Something about the situation seems off, and though they don't wish their clanmates any harm, they see this as their only opportunity to attain freedom, and perhaps find reinforcements.
WHEN CHOOSING THIS OPTION: Your cat is no longer part of SunClan, and has returned to their old name, please include their name & clan in your comment, so we can keep track of them. All cats who flee as Initiates are hated by the likes of SunClan. By choosing this option, you understand that SunClan cats will attack your character on sight and try to murder them, no matter the situation, unless Foxstar has otherwise called off the kill order on your character. You are not required to have SunClan succeed in their assassination attempts, however, trespassing generally means almost certain death for ex-Initiates. While making their escape, some of the ex-Initiates have managed to meet up, only to face their only deadly trial here: A DIFFERENT TEST)
Foxstar waited patiently at the Ceremony Springs, waiting for the Initiates to finally finish choosing their Sunflowers and return with them so that the trial may begin. It was early morning, so early that the Sun was still hours away from beginning the shortest day of the year, the Winter Solstice. There were reasons for this, that which the Initiates sort of knew, as SunClan was up earlier than usual, hunting for both the prisoners, and their own clan, in addition to sorting out NightClan and BrookClan's guard duty for the day. Today was a day of rest and mourning for SunClan, and once the dawn arrived, they'd all be in camp for the festival.
That was why the trial was happening now. The Priestess wanted to weaken the two clans while she had the chance, and perhaps even induct a cat or two into SunClan's ranks, if any were so lucky. Hopefully the disappearance of their clanmates would halt DayClan and SpringClan, if only for today.
Despite the fact that leaf-bare had begun, the area around the Ceremony Springs was warm and humid, lacking in snow thanks to the hot springs that heated the ground beneath them, lending the area a lush sunflower field for it's Burial Grounds year round.

[ Russetdawn will fail this test and eventually make his way to Starclan which has already been planned out. ]
Russetdawn felt butterflies in his stomach, very very violent butterflies. What was he doing here, holding a sunflower before Sunclan's high priestess, waiting to be initiated into Sunclan. He was a Dayclan cat and always would be but he was just trying to survive, he didn't really have the intention of harming Sunclan or giving up any 'secrets' that they might have that he most certainly wasn't privy to anyways. He wanted to aid in his clans escape and rescue but the tom could not do anything but follow along for now.
So now the beautiful long furred russet red tom stood there, green eyes glittering and unaware of his fate. He held a beautiful red sunflower that started with a deep rich ring around the middle and dispersed into a lighter, almost peachy color towards the tip of each petal. It seemed to match his pelt somehow and represented him in some uncanny way. He set the flower down, unsure what exactly he was supposed to be doing with it.
[ I wanted to include a picture of the sunflower but it was big and I didn't want to mess with code rn so here's a link to it, it's really pretty c: ]
By Foxstar's side, stood Littlebird. It had been a while since anyone but those closest to her had seen the priestess promised. She had been very sick during her pregnancy, and almost died while giving birth. Even now, she didn't seem 100% herself. Although her fur was well groomed, she looked exhausted.
She had left her kits in the care of JetClaw, so that she could attend the ceremony. It was part of her duties, and one that she didn't take lightly. Today many unsuspecting cats would die, not that they knew what fate awaited them.
(Solarflare will fail and be dragged to the DF, he might eventually be saved but I’m liking more the idea of him becoming bitter at being sent to the DF for such a ‘non-offense as he sees it)
The way Solarflare saw it, he was just moving on. His love for DayClan had passed and SunClan was beckoning him in. He looked down at the sunflower he’d chosen, yellow petals became red towards its dark center. He liked it since it seemed to show his change, how his love for DayClan ebbed into the potential love of being in SunClan. But even though his love for DayClan was waning, a part of him did muse that maybe if DayClan was able to escape he might go back. Heck, he might not pass this initiation and be sent back anyways.
Though he was intrigued in SunClan, he was not enthused by the rigidity of SunClan’s laws. But there were many lovely she cats there. And becoming a SunClan cat meant he’d be able to court them.
So he smiled and looked up towards the high priestess awaiting for the initiation or trial or whatever to begin.

( Distortednarrative is passing. Her new name will be Storyteller. She will, however, be sent back to DC on a mission. <3 )
Her sunflower was pure white with a golden center, the petals as pure as her own pelt, and the center bright like her soul. Unlike some of the other initiates, she'd needed no pressure to join along. It was simply the next logical step, and one that her and Foxstar had already discussed at length. If she failed now, she'd be quite surprised, for the Sun God had already captured her heart, and her soul had been sold to the Priestess.
With the sunflowers chosen, it was nearly time to begin. The three flowers, each unique in their own right, were soon placed at the Priestess' paws, sitting on the rock already stained with blood. Among them, there was only one she could truly believe would pass, yet she withheld her own judgement, for it didn't matter in the slightest.
"Initiates, you have worked hard serving SunClan, and learning the ways of the Sun God. You've proven that you can act as a part of SunClan, and you can work as a part of SunClan, but now, the Sun God will tell us if you truly have the heart of a SunClan cat. Step forward, Initiates, and let the Sun shine on your souls." Foxstar's voice echoed over the Springs as she waited for the three to step forth, gaze already drawn to the flowers laid only a few pawsteps before her and Littlebird. Those who passed would have their sunflower burn up in flames, and those who failed would watch as nothing happened to theirs.
Predictably, Distortednarrative's flower, well, Raconteur's flower, really, burst into bright yellow flames almost instantly, the brightness flickering across the two Priestess' faces before leaving only a patch of soot behind to remind them it had been there at all. Solarflare and Russetdawn, however? Well... it didn't appear they were as loyal as they claimed after all.
Solarflare gasped when Distortednarrative’s sunflower burst into flames. It was quite the spectacle! And a little startling if he was honest,
He turned to look at his flower waiting for it to burst into flames. But it didn’t. It remained.
He let out a sigh, oh well. He’d wanted to try and see if he could get in. Guess it just wasn’t to be. He looked up at Foxstar, waiting to see what she said next. He supposed there’d Be a spiel about how they’d failed. Maybe even some scorn before she tossed them back to DayClan. But it was fine, he hadn’t really wanted to join SunClan anyways if he was honest. He had enjoyed flirting with the notion, but he was fine enduring his time as a DayClan prisoner. At least he could say he tried.
One, only one of three had passed their initiation. She watched as the sunflower caught fire until it was nothing but ash, as the two beside of it remained in tact. Her gaze lifting, knowing what was to come next. Blood would be spilled this day, lives would be taken.
This was her first initation as a Priestess Promised, and she didn't want to disappoint her mentor. She felt her small claws dig into the ground beneath her in anticipation

After closing her eyes a brief moment, and opening them to find two flowers remaining without even a hint of a spark, a small smile curled on the feline's face, and her gaze rose as she spoke once more.
"Raconteur, the Sun has examined your heart and seen that you are truly worthy of joining SunClan. As the tides shift, abandon your old lives and begin them anew in service to the Sun God. I now grant you your new name. From this day forth, you shall be known as Storyteller, for your tales are well crafted and enthralling." This had been the expected outcome, and what came next for their new warrior would be one that only those present would be aware of, but before that, there was one more matter at hand.
"Solarflare, Russetdawn, the Sun has examined your heart and seen only treachery and lies. You came to SunClan under false pretenses and made a mockery of our deity. You shall now pay the price." Though her words were simple, there was a startling savagery to it, and the Priestess let her claws unsheathe. This was what she hadn't told them, that the price for failing wasn't to be expelled from SunClan, but to die at the claws of those they'd insulted with their feeble attempts.

Russetdawn's ears flattened on top of his skull at Foxstar's words and fear pierced his heart when he realized the Sunclan leader unsheathed her claws. Was death truly part of the initiation? Had he been fooled into thinking that they would spare his life if he agree to join? He could not look away from the golden she-cat, frozen and staring at her in horror with his green eyes.
