Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Love was in the air-- couples fawning over each other at every turn, mothers telling their kits of fulfilling romances, blushing apprentices awkwardly stumbling through confessions of deep-seated feelings-- and Sunpaw was sick. of. it. When were they going to go back to her normally scheduled mutinies against the clan's deputy? Everyone was so caught up in the throes of their longing that they forgot that there was more important matters that needed their undivided attention, and briefly she felt a pang of homesickness for the nursery. Everything was so simple back then (yesterday). She exhaled a disgruntled breath, nearly trampling over a bundle of messy gray fur during her inner monologue.
"Sunpaw!" Cinderkit said, bolting up from where she'd been dozing in the sun. Crow and Orchiddrop's kits were getting larger, and currently were in their awkward phase of long legs and big ears. The gray kit in question always looked a little disheveled or out of breath or disoriented in some way or another.
"How is being an apprentice?" She asked, trailing after the object of her affection. Cinderkit had been hooked on Sunpaw since she'd become cognizant of living and first seen the older she-cat. She didn't quite know it was love, but she did know that Sunpaw was super cool and exciting and Cinderkit had always been more of a follower than a leader, so it was fine to be bossed around by her. "I watched the ceremony from the nursery entrance but I didn't see you."
"Oh, it's you. Hi, Cinderkit." In comparison to the dazzling reverence of Cinderkit's mew, Sunpaw's voice was flat, carefully cool as to keep up the aloof persona she was going for. She leisurely strolled ahead of the younger she-cat until they came to the sunningrock near the flower patches, where she liked to occupy when a certain family wasn't using it for storytime. "I didn't go to my ceremony, so of course you wouldn't have seen me. See, Cinderkit, all the coolest cats-- and Molepaw-- don't go to their ceremony because that's so last season, you feel me? Everyone talks about being at the ceremony, but then everyone's there and you're just another face in the crowd. So lame."
She hopped onto the boulder and gestured for Cinderkit to join her, but by time the she-kit was able to haul her pudgy form onto it, the apprentice was rolled onto her back, the soft and plumy fur of her belly warmed by the sun.
Sunpaw sure was cool- and pretty, too. Cinderkit plopped herself down next to her, stealing glances at her from time to time. "Totally lame," Cinderkit agreed enthusiastically, breathing slightly harder from the climb onto the rock. "I'm not going to go to my ceremonies." She had not considered that at all before this, but if Sunpaw hadn't gone, Cinderkit wanted to be in vogue as well.
Unless her siblings went. The gray kitten frowned. How could she choose. Oh well- she would decide when the time came. "How's training? Are you learning a lot? I'm going to be a garden keeper too."
"Training is a piece of prey," said the apprentice casually. "It all comes very naturally to me, of course. The worst part is training with the evil Rosethorn." If she remembered her mentor and her companion were related, Sunpaw certainly didn't care-- and besides, it didn't hurt to have someone on the inside, right? "She's insufferable. I'm a garden keeper apprentice and she has me doing all sorts of crazy things that I'm sure violate several rules. Isn't that crazy?"
"I bet it does come easy to you," Cinderkit agreed with an energetic nod. The next bit made her pause and blink. Her aunt was evil? And she broke rules? That didn't sound like pretty Rosethorn, who floated in like a cloud and teased Firekit and brought Cinderkit little gifts from around camp.
"What kind of rules is she breaking?" Cinderkit asked, eyebrows furrowing as she tried to imagine it.
Sunpaw waved her tail at Cinderkit's query, dismissing it. "It would be frowned upon for me to tell you all the things she's done, Cinderkit, I'm just trying to warn you." She shrugged her shoulders in a manner that very much suggested she was leaving the kit to decide her own fate. "So what's the hot goss in the nursery these days? Anything juicy? Crushes, enemies, battlestothedeaththatinvolveyourbrothersboyfriend, anyone get stuck in that hole Iridescentpaw dug to hide in?"
"I didn't catch that one thing you said," Cinderkit said, pawing at her ear like something was stuck in it. "Uhhh... I dunno. We just play a lot. We must not be as cool as you guys. I don't have a crush. I'm very available." Cinderkit smiled widely, looking faintly dazed. "Oh! Can we go out of camp? You're an apprentice now- you could sneak me out, no problem, right? I wanna see the forest!"
