{Emerald awoke with a start. The sound of wood creaking and the sounds of coughing, woke her up. She took in a deep breath, and nearly choked on the smoke that filled her lungs. She quickly rose to her paws and ran to the door and tripped over a leg. She looked down and saw her mother laying trapped under a large piece of wood, nearly dead. Emerald began to cry and nuzzle her mother, only to have her mother tell her with her last breath to run and live. The wood of the house creaked and the flames began to fill the room she was in. She looked around the room and found an opening in the floor.}

She ran underneath a water heater, that led to the outside. She slipped in and began to run to the nearest opening. She squeezed herself through right as the house collapsed. She continued to run, heading towards the forest. Emeraldcrow coughed and gasped for air as she slowed to walk. Her pelt all mangled and torn in some places.}

She looked back at the place she had just left and hung her head sadly as she realized she was all alone now. She crossed the border, not realizing that it was Clan land and that she was trespassing. She didn't really care. All she wanted was a place to sleep and think, and some food. She hadn't made it far, when a set of paw steps came her way and surrounded her. She was threatened by these cats, but relieved. She told them what had happened and that she needed a place to live and eat.}
