Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
The tom peaked his large orange head into the leader's den, a rabbit hanging from his jaws. It wasn't the most neatly killed creature, but the tom was much more used to fishing than hunting. He had yet to adapt completely to the change, although he was trying his best. Anyone could see that he was trying.
He dropped the rabbit, an easy smile across his face. "Burningstar, are you in here?" he called into the den from the entrance. He didn't want to enter truly without her permission, even though he slept there too. "I brought breakfast."
Burningstar lifted her head a bit groggy. To help Lindon acclimate to the territory, she’d taken to being alert more during the day for him and putting Voltfox in charge at night unless she was needed. Naps helped. She let out a tired purr. “Thank you Lindon, come in, let’s share it.” She said sitting up beckoning him in.
“That’s a plump one. That’s pretty good! Territory treating you all right?” She asked. She was glad he’d made the offer really she’d just been lying there half asleep half stewing over NoghtClan’s problems.
The continued enslavement and imprisonment of DayClan and SpringClan on SunClan’s land, while Burningstar knew what Foxstar intended to do wore her down. It made her heart heavy with the knowledge she had a paw in their suffering and the eventually demises of many of those cats.
She’d tried to focus on eventual plans to make a move to free NightClan prisoners from WinterClan but that raised other concerns and fears. She’d have to move a large battle party. What if NightClan was attacked? What if Foxstar did something to lash out since she knew Burningstar didn’t agree with her views. What if WinterClan repelled their efforts? They knew very little about WinterClan territory. And what would be done with SpringClan’s territory?
"It's getting some taking used to," he admitted sheepishly, "but, really, it's not much different than the one back home." His tail flicked. He wasn't lying. Although there were still a few cats who didn't want him there, he was adjusting easier than he had expected. Other than the religious differences, there really wasn't much different between the groups. They were all just cats that were fighting do survive, to do what they thought was right. It was a comforting thought that they were all similar. "One day, I'll get the whole hunting land critters down pat, right?" He let out a purr, before nudging the rabbit towards her before entering.
"You look like you have a lot on your mind. Maybe we could talk while we eat? You don't have to tell me anything you don't want to, but I think that it might be good for you to get at least a little bit off of your chest." There was a concern in his voice for the she-cat, but he understood why Burningstar might not want to talk to him. He was considered a spy, after all. Still, he wanted to let her know that he was always willing to be an ear if she needed it.
Burningstar let out a purr, "I'd say you're doing very well with the hunting of land critters." She said. "And when the thaw happens, you'll probably give those fish in our river and by the waterfall a good workout to escape your paws." She said with a laugh.
Though when he mentioned there being stuff on her mind, her jovial expression fell away and her eyes took on a weary look to them and she sighed. "I would enjoy a chat, I have a great deal of burdens on my mind." She admitted letting out a sigh beckoning for him to join him and pulling the rabbit close to her to take a bite before pushing it back towards him so he could take one as well.
"It's the alliance... especially what Foxstar's doing to the prisoners..." Burningstar meowed quietly, she lowered her eyes. "Splitting kits from their mothers en masse. And I know I'm guilty of stealing the four from Springlockedgrave... But just seeing so many mothers heartbroken... and so many kits lost and confused. It fills me with such guilt... That I was so selfish to put keeping the kits... But I care for them so much..." She shook her head knowing she was all over the place.
"I know my agreement with Kerrigan... I just wish that I could stop being complacent in the suffering of the prisoners. In Foxstar's intentions to goad these cats into their deaths by luring them into their initiation where failure to pass means death. And she's made sure none of those cats know that fact. They all think they'd just, just go back to being prisoners." She bowed her head. "And I can say and do nothing. I can't warn them. I can't do anything. I have to support Kerrigan, and as a result all these cats have to suffer. Because I wanted to keep kits that weren't even my sister's, because we wanted our family together other families have been torn apart."
"And I can't even dwell on that. I've got WinterClan, stealing my cats and even more that have been kept there that needs rescue. Since Shiverstar didn't rescue them." She barred her teeth frustrated with the former leader, though her rage passed and she sighed. "I just feel overwhelmed," She admitted looking away. "And selfish. And even now I sit here saying how I did bad and I have no solutions." She rose to her paws tail lashing and she turned in a circle. "I need to do something. But I don't know what to do... And then all the frustrations just keep resuming." She grumbled sitting back down across from Lindon.
"I appreciate that. Maybe one day I'll be able to hunt one in one fall swoop, but that day is certainly not today," he meowed as he looked at the slightly mangled rabbit. Oh well. He then laughed at her next comment. It was the first time that he genuinely laughed in a while. The noise was rich and hearty, eminating from the very core of the tom's body. "I'd like to promise that you're right," he mewed with a grin, "but I'd hate to get your hopes too far up." He chuckled again. He was an avid fisher, so it was really of no concern of his that he'd eventually prove his worth. He just needed time. And, until the thaw, he'd get use to rabbits, he thought as he took a bite.
When the look in her eyes changed, the look on his face softened to slight concern. Although the two of them had met under unusual circumstances, he had started to grow at least affectionate towards her, if nothing else. In time, he was almost convinced he could fall for her. This meant that he wanted to be there for her, something that his expression hinted.
"Things happen for a reason," he meowed, his tail flicking. He had been told the same thing the night before he came here. "There is great suffering to go through to understand the reason, but the choices that we make shape who we are. You made a mistake in stealing kittens. Yet, from this mistake, you have learned a compassion for cats that you may not otherwise. You have a connection to each of those families. If you had never seen first hand what it means to separate kittens, perhaps you would be able to separate yourself from the suffering of the masses." He knew that this would provide little sollace, and he wasn't sure it was intended to provide much more. He didn't know what to say. On one side, there was a part of him that didn't understand her. What made her think she was any different from Foxstar? On the other, he empathized with her. It was a quiet conflict that settled in his chest.
"My sister is growing weary of the situation," he meowed, as if this would provide some sort of comfort with her. "She has seen what it is to be at the top of the world, but she is also angry. She came into this thinking she would be the one to call the shots, to be in charge of the hands that everyone is dealt. She thought that EarthClan's destruction would mean that Foxstar would obediently follow her lead, and that's not exactly what happened," he admitted. "Not that my sister is the pinicale of morality or anything, but I know she feels isolated from what she wanted to be her project. I have several reasons to believe it'll be over soon enough, although if yo repeat that, she will cut my feet off."
He took a moment to think. "Are you going to rescue them?" he asked quietly, before sighing. "It is okay to be overwhelmed, too. You have a lot on your plate. What do you want to do? Let's start with that. If this was a perfect world and you could do anything you wanted, what would you do?"
“If I could do anything I wanted?” Burningstar paused thinking it over. “I would honestly want to go in different clans and just.. live with them. Or at the very least learn about them.”
Her eyes got a faraway look. “When I first met Glowstar she told me that she embraces every cat she meets because there’s untold potential for what they can bring into your life. And what I’d want more than anything is to just be able to meet more cats, be able to see different clans. If I could spend a few days in BrookClan, that’d be nice. I bet it’s lovely in new leaf. But not just the territories and the other cats, the history, the lore, the legends they tell and the god’s different groups believe in. It fascinates me. And i’d Wish I could meet them. I was so disappointed when Glowstar was right by the Sun God, SunClan’s deity and I couldn’t see him.” Burningstar meowed, completely enthralled as she recalled everything. “I suppose I need to open my mind more or something. But I just, there’s so much out there and i’d Love to learn more.”
“I’d also like to become stronger,” she said flexing a paw. “When you stand among the likes of Glowstar, Foxstar and Kerrigan it’s easy to feel the sizable gap in strength. I don’t think I’ll ever be as ruthless, at least... not unless someone came after my family. Then StarClan help them, I will find the strength to destroy them.”
She relaxed though immediately, “But yes, i’d Like to be tough enough to feel less like a new warrior amongst those who feel like masters at times. I think ideally i’d Like to be tough enough for when it was needed, but smart enough to know how to avoid battles. I doubt i’ll Reach that balance as after SoringClan... i’m Not too keen on waging war anymore. Except on WinterClan. And even then it’d likely be as a distraction to allow our prisoners to escape,”
“But honestly though, truly honest as all those are fairly lofty things to think of... i’d Just want some peace again, I want to go on silly adventures with Glowstar, i’d Like for us to take trips back to BrookClan to see your kits and see if I can grow on Kerrigan any. Or at least to where she feels more comfortable to not have to remind me she could have me killed at any second. I want to spend time watching Raspberrykit, Skykit, Infernalkit and Blazekit grow. And seeing the cats they become. And maybe down the line i’ll Be blessed with some kits of my own.” Her eyes softened at the thought, the yearning had grown strong when they’d started raising the 4 kits and it hadn’t really left her.
But she didn’t want to push Lindon and make him uncomfortable, they still were getting to know each other after all. Plus he might decide he just didn’t feel that way about her. And she was still deciding too. Part of her said he would be a fine father and mate, but the other part questioned if she loved him. And she felt in time she could. She enjoyed his company, and soybean or not she didn’t feel, too worried. Besides he’d tell Kerrigan Burningstar has desires to see other cultures, feels weak, and just wants peace to be with family and friends. She didn’t know what the flower crown wearing tsar could really do with that anyways.
im really sorry the beginning of the year was hard for me so a lot of my threads got lost rip do we want to continue this thread or time skip or something ?
(I'm feeling a timeskip, maybe right after DayClan and SpringClan are freed and Burningstar comes back fresh off of losing a life? Like she's just exhausted but relieved. Could have Lindon like been waiting up for her, with him either telling her it was mousebrained for her to go with so few cats, telling her she shouldn't go at all, or agreeing with her decision but still waiting to see if she comes back
And yeah I need to get back to the thread where Burning and Lindon visit Kerrigan XP. Should also do a thread where Burningstar introduces the four adopted underbite kits to Lindon like 'I've found more kits! We're adopting all of them and I'm moving to the nursery')
(okay , sounds good ! omg i want a thread where lindon meets the under bites and is like "lol nice perfect love that we now have a million kids" )
Lindon had been instructed specifically from his sister the night of the gathering that he was not to engage in any fighting with SunClan. The rookClan blood in him was still too strong to risk a fight with Foxstar. And, Kerrigan had told him that not only that, but she would blame Burningstar completely if he got hurt. As much as it made him anxious to have let Burningstar alone, he knew that he would not be able to disobey his sister. He had felt badly explaining this to Burningstar, especially because he had been torn. He wanted to go with her, to protect her, but it wasn't possible without risking it all...
He heard pawsteps come close to the den they shared, and he stopped his pacing to prick his ears. "Is that you? Are you okay?" he asked, running to the entrance to meet his tired-looking mate.
Burningstar had managed to clean the worst of the blood that had stained her front, but there was still a clear crimson stain that had yet to be cleaned away.
"Yes, it's me. Everyone's back... alive... mostly. You had Bonfirekit stay with Soaringbird in the nursery right?" She rasped, she looked haggard she glanced around the area and let out a sigh of relief when she saw that their adopted son was not present in the den. The little one would've likely been horrified to see her come back bloody and ragged. She'd walked DayClan and SpringClan out of SunClan and after losing her first life she felt very, very tired. She entered and graciously sat down in the den breathing out a sigh of relief that it was over. The alliance was done, and DayClan and SpringClan were free.
Truthfully she was glad Lindon had stayed behind. She had thought in the back of her mind that she was taking too few cats if SunClan put up significant resistance. And in hindsight it was clear she had been a mousebrain to take so few. Thank StarClan she'd only lost one of her lives, and not the life of one of her warriors.
Though she was glad Larkwing, her compassionate, caring concerned deputy, had come to her aid. She was even more glad Lindon had stuck behind. After seeing what Foxstar had done to Deal... Burningstar wanted to guard him a little more closely. She had grown to greatly care about him. He was good, reliable, and StarClan would she be blessed if she got to spend all nine of her lives with him by her side. She didn't know if it was love. It was different to what she'd felt for one other tom before. But she felt like this was a good relationship.
And she couldn't bear to see him endure such a thing. She'd been privately thanking Kerrigan for laying down such a law. For she wasn't sure if she could tell Lindon to stay behind. As it seemed the desire to protect each other had developed over the moons they'd been together. And though she appreciated his care, she wanted him safe. She did after all have more than 1 life to lose.
"Bonfirekit stayed with Soaringbird," he confirmed, although his voice broke slightly with concern. She looked terrible. He moved closer to her, his tail brushing against her. The only thing that kept him from breaking out into nervous twitches was the idea that she, like his sister, had multiple lives. Still, the idea that he wasn't there to protect her if she did in fact lose one of the... It would be a weight on his chest forever. She hadn't been the first cat that he couldn't save.... He didn't let this inner monologue reach his eyes, though. He couldn't let her see that he was anything more than concerned.
"Mostly? How badly did you get hurt? Should I retrieve someone?" Her questions were rapid fire as he looked at her. What was he going to do... His lips twitched into a frown, even moreso than it had before. He should have been there... To hell with what Kerrigan said... He shouldn't have let her go alone. What kind of mate was he? His jaw clenched and unclenched. "Maybe you should lay down. We can talk about this when you're more comfortable...."
He wanted to tell him that he was angry she went with such a small group. What had she been thinking? Yet, he couldn't bring himself to. Lindon couldn't bring himself to blame her, at least not until he knew she was safe, really safe, safe and comfortable.
"No one followed you back, right? Should I hold watch tonight? Is there something I can do to make you feel better?" When they had first met, he had been friendly enough. In the last moon especially, though, he had developed a soft spot or her, one that was more than just a soft spot because they had to be with each other. Was it love? He was unsure yet. It was a deep affection, at least, for her. Despite the circumstances in which they were thrown together, he could see himself with her for the rest of his life, and not just because his sister said so...
Burningstar nodded slowly moving to lie down into her nest. "Yes, yes, lying down would be good." She said shakily as she lowered herself into her nest before dropping into it with a bit of a grunt. She shifted to get comfortable giving her still crimson stained chest fur a few licks. Debating what to answer first.
"No, I don't think a watch will be necessary. I'd rather you stay close to me honestly, the rest of the clan will be up when night falls. Any trouble will be easily handled. Though I doubt Foxstar will give us any. She got to release SpringClan and DayClan without losing face as WinterClan and the Regime arrived. And with it being 5 groups against the few SunClan guards and Foxstar, Foxstar was able to let the two clans go without the shame of losing to a weaker opponent. Though you and Larkwing were right. I took too few cats today." She sighed.
She was so so fortunate today hadn't gone as badly as it could've. Foxstar could've easily asked for the lives of her warriors rather than Burningstar's own lives. But her warriors had been wise enough to keep back and stay safe. Burningstar should've practiced the same caution.
"We didn't lose any cats, thank StarClan. But I did lose a life." Burningstar admitted. She let out a snort. "I stood too close to Foxstar, underestimated her and it cost me. She got me right across the throat before I could do anything. Woke up in StarClan to my mother fretting over me, and then woke back up alive to being aided by the SpringClan and DayClan medicine cats." She sighed. "It's very fortunate WinterClan and the Regime made SunClan give up so easily. Foxstar was itching to take more, said if I gave up three of my lives she'd let SpringClan and DayClan go.... I was tempted... briefly. But Glowstar reminded me I was being a mousebrain and after dying once, and quick at that. I'd... rather take better care." Burningstar murmured. It had been a very uncomfortable feeling. To die, to wake up in StarClan and feel that brief chill of the afterlife as one of her lives slipped away and took up residence in StarClan a shadow of her to await when she lost all nine of her lives.
