Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Aspenstar's gaze flicked between the many cats that gathered below her. In the front row sat the felines that she had most closely considered. Maplevow and Oakleaf sat close together. Of course, she had considered her two brothers. Maplevow was talented, almost more talented in what he did than she was. Oakleaf was brilliant, although quiet. Both felines would have been excellent for the job. Seated slightly away from the duo was the other feline that she'd considered, the only one outside of her bloodline: Duskveil. She was a surprising choice. She had struggled in her training and was still quite young, even in comparison to the other two warriors. Yet, their interaction the night that she interviewed her was still fresh in her mind. There was potential in the young feline, and it was that potential that had driven her to the decision.
She cleared her voice, calling the quiet chatter of her clanmates to a hault. "Thank you for gathering here today. As you all know, I have had a heavy decision to make. I do not take the responsibility of the decision lightly, which is why it took me longer than I anticipated to decide." Her tail twitched slightly as her mismatched gaze passed along the clearing. This was one of the first times she had addressed the entire clan. Even the night of her promotion, she had hesitated to call them all in front of her.
"The deputy of NightClan is an important role. The feline I have selected for the role must be willing to do whatever it takes to make NightClan strong." She paused for a moment, holding the gaze of each of her potential deputies for just a moment. "As such, I have made my decision based on who I trust most in accompanying me on this journey." Another pause, before the leader's gaze blinked. There was a sureness in her eyes, one that was powerful. She had made the decision she thought would be best.
"Duskveil, will you accept the position?"
The first cat to respond was the feline sitting so close to Duskveil that their furs interlocked. Darkmeadow let out a whoop, pride clear in her deep emerald eyes. "Duskveil, Duskveil!" she found herself chanting, love clear in her tone. She then quieted, offering a whisper into her mate's ear. "I knew you could do it."
Although one might expect that Oakleaf would be sad about being passed up for a role, the tom's gaze flooded with relief. He had struggled since the night that Aspenstar told him that he was being considered. He wasn't ready for a responsibility like that. He loved the group like any other NightClan cat would, but he knew that he was not suited for the role. He'd tried to tell his sister that repeatedly, and he was very glad that she had listened. Still, the tom was not heartless, and instead of joining in the chant, he glanced to his brother. He knew Maplevow had struggled when Aspenstar had become leader over him, and he could imagine his brother would be disappointed. "You okay?" he murmured to the tom next to him, his voice almost indistinguishable from the loud noises of Darkmeadow and whoever else the she-cat could convince to join her.
On the opposite side of Duskveil sat Dawnbringer, who, for a moment, froze in surprise at the announcement. His sister had been chosen as Aspenstar's deputy? His vibrant green eyes slid over to look at his sister, his heart warming with pride. Things were still awkward between the two, but that didn't mean he couldn't be happy for one of the only cats that he cared about. He gently bumped against her, offering a small smile and nod.
