Go exploring in the wasteland, only to be forced to take shelter in a tiny cave when a sandstorm sweeps over the desert. A cave that is a bit of a tight squeeze

It was hot, blazing hot. The sun was beating down on the two of them, and it made her black fur feel like it was on fire. SunClan cats were used to the heat, but the heat in the wasteland was almost overbearing. Brightdawn wasn't sure why Bloodystar thought it was a good idea to send them out to this barren land to explore. What were the supposed to be finding? Bones? Brightdawn swallowed, her mouth dry "So what are we supposed to be looking for again?"

His fur felt like it was boiling under the scorching sun, and the pads of his paws had gone numb a while ago with the ground feeling almost twice as hot. Despite the massive discomfort of their surroundings, the young warrior dragged himself forward like his life depended on it. "What are we supposed to be looki-?" he broke off only to half-heave, half-laugh. He stopped for a second to clear his throat before turning his green eyes, sparkling with life, to Brightdawn. He didn't know her well, but she was still powering through this date the same as him, which meant she was probably a keeper. "We're not looking for anything. Just being out here and exploring, maybe going farther than anyone's ever been before, that's why we're here!" He paused for a moment before letting out a nervous chuckle. "You know, among other things..."

Brightdawn chuckled, she normally wasn't this shy but she had to admit that the heat radiating from her fur was from more than just the sun. She hadn't really been searching for mate, but she couldn't deny the way her made her heart flutter when he looked at he like that. She had never been on a proper date before, but her only regret thus far was the location that had been picked out for them. But she wasn't one to complain, instead trying to make the most of what they have been given "At least we can take our time" she replied a little more playfully, bounding forward and using one of the rocks to launch herself off of "How about a race?" she motioned forward through the stones "first one to the end wins?

He felt some of his confidence return as the she-cat became more playful and he picked himself up a bit. "A race?" He wasn't sure if running was the best way to counter a potential heat stroke, but who was he to turn down a game? "You're on!" He met her side at the rocks, allowing them an equal starting point. He glanced at her, unable to stop himself from smiling even once he began the countdown.
"On your marks, get set, GO!" A puff of dirt sprung into the air behind him as Tawnyowl pushed off the stones and into a full sprint. Although, the numbness in his paws made his form awkward and he almost wiped out on a loose rock soon after starting. It didn't slow him down much though, and he continued forward with adrenaline coursing through his veins. Just because he was on a date, didn't mean he was going to go easy on Brightdawn. "You'll never beat me!" he shouted, too excited to notice the change in the air around them.

Brightdawn waited until he was in position, she didn't want any excuses about her getting a head start when he lost. She grinned "Hope you are as fast as you look" she commented as she shouted go. In an instant her powerful back legs were pushing hard on the ground, powering her forward as fast as her small frame could manage. She didn't even the mind the sting as her paws slapped across the ground, pulling ahead of the tom slightly "I wouldn't bet on it!"
She to had been to wrapped up in their race to notice, not until it was far to late. A gush of wind through the soft sand onto her face forcing her to stop. Coughing and sneezing trying to get it out of her nose and mouth. Her sides heaved, but the sand seemed unrelenting as she finally caught her breath "Tanwnyowl?" she called, already hoarse. The sand so thick that she could hardly see her own paws

Tawnyowl was in a similar situation. Sand stung his skin like a thousand wasps and he closed his eyes a second too late. Crouched low against the ground, he tried to keep his head away from the worst of it, but his eyes burned so much already. "Tawnyowl?" Brightdawn's call sounded from ahead and he started crawling over to her. "I'm here," he shouted back, instantly regretting the influx of sand in his mouth. Spitting and coughing, he kept going until his head brushed blindly against her fur. "We need... to find cover!"

Brightdawn nodded in agreement trying to avoid talking and getting sand in her mouth. Feeling along the edges of the stone, she made her way over to the side of the canyon trying to find a ledge or something that they could at least get the sand off of them for a moment. Then her paws felt empty air, revealing a small cavern "In here" she wiggled inside, moving over to make room for her date. It was going to be a tight squeeze, but at least it would give them some relief from the blasting sand

Sticking close to her, Tawnyowl followed Brightdawn into the cavern. Relief washed over him as he realized the buffeting sand couldn't reach them here and slowly, he opened his eyes. The whites of them were a stinging pink and with the spluttering mess he'd become, he was sure any ounce of attractiveness he had was gone for the time being. "That was awful," he exclaimed between coughs. He wasn't sure how much more of that he could take. Luckily, Brightdawn was able to lead them here. It hadn't even occurred to him how cramped the space was until he'd regained his bearings enough to notice there was hardly a mouse-length between them. Suddenly, he felt a lot more shy. "I think I'm a little better now. How are you holding up?"

Brightdawn coughed out the sand she had swallowed, her throat feeling swollen and inflamed along with her eyes and nose, but now that they were out of the blasting sand it wasn't as bad "I'll be ok" she agreed glad that they had managed to make it into safety, but Tawnyowl looked so uncomfortable crouched over like that "Look I know its an awkward space... but we should try to get comfortable. Its untelling how long this sandstorm is going to last" She blinked trying to resisit the urge to raise her paw to her eyes to rub them. She laid down, scooting over to the edge so that he could join her "Really I don't mind... I don't want you to feel any more uncomfortable than you have to"

"Oh, it's okay," he muttered, feeling flustered by her concern. He wasn't really used to others caring about his comfort or anything about him for that matter, partially because he was always out by himself. But if this was what it felt like then maybe he could get used to it. He swallowed before he took what he believed to be an invitation, and curled up beside Brightdawn. "You know, I couldn't feel uncomfortable with you around," he whispered to the ground, unable to make eye contact despite the flirtacious comment. "Thank you by the way."

Brightdawn blushed at the toms comment, especially since their fur was now brushing up against one another's in the tight space. She really didn't mind him being there, it wasn't like he had much choice in the matter. They were stuck together for the forseeable futured and she could have stuck with someone far worse than the handsome tom "No need to thank me, we are in this together" she smiled sweetly looking out at the raging storm
"Since it seems like we wont be leaving any time soon, perhaps we could play a little game to pass the time. Two truths a lie?"

A low purr sounded in his throat as he followed her gaze to watch the storm. When he wasn’t standing in the middle of it, it actually was kind of mesmerizing. “Sure, that sounds fun. I can start if you want,” he offered, already raking through his mind for some ideas. “Okay, here goes. I had two mentors before becoming a warrior, I was born under the dreams sign, and I’m an only child.”

"You are an only child" she answered, hoping that she was correct. After all even if he didn't have any living sibling, being born as a single kit was incredibly rare. She couldn't imagine growing up without any siblings, but at least in SunClan there were always plenty of kits around to play with. Even if you were an only kit you would have no lack of playmates and friends.

"Ah ha! I got you! I'm actually a water sign!" he laughed, giving her a playful nudge. "Although, I might have messed up... I'm not really sure if I'm an only child or not." Tawnyowl rolled his head back and groaned. "Darn! Maybe you were right after all! But that's okay, I'll make sure to guess yours right, and then we'll be even again."

"A water sign huh? Well that is good news. I am and Apple Blossom sign, so we are quite compatible" she giggled a little, despite the bad taste in her mouth from the sand she felt more light hearted "Ok, ok... Hmmmmm" she tilted her head to the side as she thought about what she wanted to say next "I am a daughter of the moon and sun, I once made Bloodystar cry, and my mom was once the High Priestess"

"Oh? That is good news," he replied, laughing along with her. On Brightdawn's turn, his brow furrowed in deep thought as he tried to work out which was the lie. He wasn't well-versed in much of SunClan's history or anyone else's so really, any one of them could be true or false. Although, that was kind of the whole point of the game. "Well, I sorta hope you did make Bloodystar cry, so I'm gonna say that's true. And uh, between the other two... I guess that your mom being the High Priestess is a lie?"

"I got you" she purred, taking a moment to watch the expression on his face. "My mother was once High Priestess, but of MoonClan. When she and my father got together, she gave up everything to move to SunClan and be with my father. This means I am both a daughter of both the moon and sun. I have not made Bloodystar cry, yet.... But I have made him scream. I used to play pranks on him a lot as a kit, before he caught on"

Tawnyowl let out a long "ahhhh" and then nuzzled into her neck. "I should have known that was a lie. You're way too nice to make him cry," he purred. After a second or two, he pulled back a little too quickly. He'd just been acting on instinct there and well, his desire, but had he just crossed a line? It was only their first date and he wasn't very good with social cues. "Um, sorry if that was a bit much," he said, visibly abashed, but then he tried to laugh it off. "You're gonna have to tell me about these pranks before I go again though."

Brightdawn leaned into his touch, a protest rising in her throat as he pulled away and apologize... Right... This was only their first date, but why did it feel like she had known him for far longer than that. She felt heat rise to her cheeks "No reason to apologize" they were in an enclosed space and it was easy to get lost in the moment "I can't even count them all... Though one time I mixed in glue with his paint, and made it really difficult to get out of his pelt"
