You may return, if you want. But, Dawnmemories. Things will be different now. You should know that.
The warrior jerked awake in Graythorn's den, the past few days flooding over her once more. Dawnmemories groaned, sitting up on shaky legs, careful to avoid putting too much weight on her front paws. She'd escaped the ordeal with slight frostbite, though she'd been in something of a coma for days before breaking free of the icy darkness for good. All in all she'd been lucky.
She should be happy and relieved, but shame rolled off her in waves. Moonfish had died. Seasparkleflash had been injured and forced to retire early, and if what she'd heard was true he'd also changed his name. And Dawnmemories was no longer deputy - not that she could blame Ratstar.
But since finding out about her demotion, news that had been gently uttered once she'd pulled out of the darkness that so tempted her, Dawnmemories had refused visitors. And she'd refused to leave the sanctuary of the medicine cat's den. No Ratstar, Ragingspire, Sootstep, or Seasparkleflash. Not a single cat had been allowed in to see her. And once she was well enough to leave the red cat intended to disappear from her beloved clan. There was no place for a disgraced deputy who failed to save a warrior and then herself. Who'd caused a death and the loss of a warrior to the elder's den.
The other tom was devastated. Sootstep had seen the raw grief in Ragingspire's gaze as he paced laps around the outside of the den, the longing looks he cast inside, the flashes of anger and fear that overcame him. For days, he had been by her side, but once she woke up Dawnmemories had driven him away. Driven them all away. It tore Ragingspire up to leave her, Sootstep knew, but he had respected her wishes. He was always so damn polite and perfect.
But Sootstep? He had no qualms about betraying her trust again.
So he gave her space, for a little white, and then he picked himself up and he marched into the den and sat down across from her, his expression flat and no longer amused. He was done playing her self-pitying games.
"Finally done with your nap?" he asked as he watched her struggle to rise, doing nothing to help. "About time. Do you know how many patrols I've had to pick up while you're been slacking?"

Dawnmemories jumped at his voice, her defenses immediately up and her voice flat and unwelcoming as she turned to look at him, "go away, Sootstep. I told Graythorn no visitors." She let her gaze remain on him, drinking in his presence eagerly despite her words. Sootstep. Her heart, the stupid thing, skipped and as usual her brain rebelled against the obvious attraction she felt for him. There wasn't a place in SummerClan for her now, and that included with Ragingspire or Sootstep. She didn't want to see either of them and feel conflicted. She reluctantly looked away, standing and turning a bit awkwardly so she could lay back down in her nest.
