With only a few kits in the nursery, the nursery aids and queens had almost nothing to do with their time other than overwhelm the younglings with constant supervision, love, and affection. Dapperpaw hadn't seen a kit in camp without the company of at least four other adults at any time, but tonight was a rarity. Why things ended up this way was beyond him, but somehow one lamb had separated themselves from the herd. The kit was in a more secluded part of the camp and no one else was around to notice except for him.
I guess it's my lucky day. Amber eyes glinted in the shadows as he made his way over to the kit. "What are you doing out so late, little one?" he asked despite being promoted only last moon.
((Tagging anyone with kits! Don't feel like you have to participate though. @ian biyuu ☆彡woofCreativeFyre ))
Sparrowkit narrowed his eyes. What was it with these cats and ruining his fun? He had slipped out of the nursery without waking up Cinderslip, and he thought he deserved a night on the town in accomplishment. That wasn't how the cards seemed to want to play, though, and the new FallClan member could only find himself fighting the urge to bristle. The rules were so strict here, nothing like what he was used to. Before they came, he and his siblings had control of the tiny corner of the forest their mother lived in, or at least, that's what he'd like to think. Now, he was expected to simply sit in the nursery, when the whole world was out there?
Still, Sparrowkit was trying not to be rude. He'd gotten his fair share of cuffings since arriving in the group; apparently, it wasn't nice to talk back to your superiors. Well, if they weren't so annoying and vibe-destroying , he remembered thinking. His tail twitched slightly, waiting just one moment to gather himself enough to respond.
"I was just lookin' around!" he chirped easily, even though it was simultaneously both the truth and a lie. Sure, he was looking around, but the why was probably the more important part. He had been previously trying to come up with an exit strategy, but his plans were ruined now. "What are you doin out so late?"

He sensed that the kit thought his fun might have been foiled now and in a way, it was. If it were any other apprentice, Sparrowkit would likely be shooed back to the nursery in a heartbeat, but why should he? From the moment he was born into FallClan, he'd been deemed "cursed" along with his siblings. Even if he did follow the rules to a T nothing would change, and for him, if he was going to be seen as a monster then he may as well act the part. Unfortunately, Sparrowkit wasn't too different from himself. Not being clan-born and having an occult mother brought its own stigmas. Nevertheless...
"Looking around? That must be code for sneaking some alone time," Dapperpaw hummed. "No worries though. I'm out here for the same reason." Not necessarily a lie, but not technically true either. He paused for a moment; amber eyes trailing off to the bramble archways of the camp's entrance before finding their way back to the kit. "Actually, I was about to go for a little stroll. If you wanted to tag along, maybe we could look around together?"
Sparrowkit was lucky he had happened upon the right apprentice, then, as he never would have listened to anyone else. That had been made clear the last time he had tried to sneak out, when a warrior had to physically grab him and move him back to the nursery. He really didn't understand why he wasn't allowed out! It wasn't like he hadn't survived out there in the great big world before!
He made no comment on the first part, but his ears quickly perked at the idea that the apprentice would take him to do something. Finally, a cat with some sense that wasn't his mother, who... well... loosely didn't have any sense at all. His gaze followed Dapperpaw, lighting up at the very prospect. "Yes!" he meowed just a little too eagerly, before flicking his left ear at his own enthusiasm. Watch it, Sparrowkit, you'll ruin your disinterested vibes. "I mean... I guess that would be cool. Whaddya have in mind?"

He chuckled at the kit's enthusiasm, pleased with his cooperation but what did he expect? Any sane kit would jump on an adventure out of camp. "Great! I'm still a little new to the whole apprentice thing," Dapperpaw confessed as he began walking towards the archways, "Haven't really done any real training past territory familiarization and while I'm sure you'd love a tour, how about we skip to the most exciting spots in FallClan?" Of course, there was really only one place the apprentice had in mind, not that Sparrowkit would have any idea.
Once they were outside of the camp, the calico felt a weight lift from his shoulders. He was worried someone might have overheard them earlier, but now all they had to worry about was running into a night patrol and the chances of that weren't very high. "By the way, are you old enough to eat fresh-kill or do you still rely on your mother's milk?"
