Eaglefeather sat just outside the Cenote looking toward the east at the rising moon. He wasn't chosen for a patrol but his paws itched to do something. Maybe he'd wander over to the western border to see if any rogues were poaching prey from their territory. Or maybe he'd head up to the waterfalls and try his luck at fishing. A cool wind ruffled his fur causing a chill to run down his spine. Standing up, he stretched still undecided as to what to do. If only he had some other cat to do something with... like maybe an adventure!
"You look like you're ready to do something," meowed a she-cat as she padded up to him. "Mind if I tag along?" It was a genuine question, one she was fully prepared to hear the word 'no' to, but Aspenstar was quickly learning that with the fancy new name, cats were significantly less likely to challenge her. It was almost sad; she'd never felt as out of touch with her clanmates as she did now while she juggled her new tasks. She was hopeful this would change in time, and it seemed to her that interacting with her warriors was the first way to bridge the gap that she felt.

"Yes, I am," Eaglefeather meowed as he turned to face the speaker. "Sure, I'd like some ... company." He was surprised to see that the cat who had spoken to him was none other than his new leader! He really didn't know who it at first was who had spoken to him, just only recognizing a female voice. It took an effort on his part to narrow his widened eyes. He didn't want her to feel funny and think less of him. "I was thinking about maybe doing some fishing in the pool below the waterfalls." He hoped that would interest her.
Aspenstar smiled at the warrior's acceptance of her company. This was her first step in reuniting a clan that had seen near ruin in the last few months, making sure that she engaged with as many warriors as possible. "That's my favorite spot," she meowed after he said the waterfall. It really was; she'd become accustomed to spending most of her free time there, the only part of a simpler life before leadership that she desperately clung to. "I do have to say, though, fishing? Not my forte. My apologies in advance if I can't catch a fish; the slimy little things always just evade my grasp."

He was surprised at Apenstar's admission of being unable to fish. Why would she admit a weakness to him? While it's true NightClan isn't a 'water clan' as such, they do catch fish from their streams from time to time. Perhaps she's showing me she's a regular cat too, he mused gaining a greater appreciation for his new leader. "Well, there's other prey around the falls we can catch if you'd rather not fish." He knew water voles, mice, and shrews made their homes there, along with the birds and squirrels who lived in the trees.
Aspenstar smiled at the tom's willingness to accomodate her admission. "Although I appreciate your willingness to adjust your plans for me, I think that fishing will be just as good. Maybe you could teach me your techniques? My mentor didn't like the water, so we never got to those lessons. Maybe I just need someone to help." Was that a high ask of a warrior? Perhaps it was. "At least, if you're okay with that. If you're not, I understand. I might not be able to catch a fish, but I sure can catch a mean vole."

WOW! Did his ears hear right? Did his leader ask him to teach her how to fish? What a great honor! A deeper appreciation for Aspenstar grew in Eaglefeather's heart. He was both excited and nervous. Excited to be able to show off his skills to his leader and nervous that he might make a mistake. "I'd be happy to show you what I learned," he meowed. "The method I was taught was bank fishing. Unless you fall in, you only get your paws wet." He gave Aspenstar a big smile. "You ready to go?"
